What a wonderful read! If you loved “too many carrots” you will love this. This story follows hedgehog who is building a new home, but struggles getting his new home(a pumpkin) back to his spot. He’s a bit shy and quiet, but with repetition of making new friends who help hedgehog along his journey to get his pumpkin home, he finds the courage to speak up and ask for help. I see this being a great fall read for little kids. Drawings are amazing as well! The only thing the I’m not a fan of is the title - title seemed a little misleading to me. I initially clicked this book would be set using the pumpkin to do something with or in a pumpkin patch. I felt like the “plan” part is never seen in the book.
I read this book to my children ages 7,9,10. They were all interested in the book and illustrations that were contained inside, they absolutely loved this story and asked if this book would be at their school library they loved it so much. I would definitely recommend reading if you have children :)
Hedgehog decides to build a different house this year. He finds the perfect pumpkin to make a perfect home. He makes a perfect plan to get the pumpkin home. Unfortunately he hits problems along the way. Luckily, he meets to animals who offer Hedgehog help and with their help, the pumpkin finally makes it to the perfect spot. When the home is completed, Hedgehog realizes he likes spending time with his new friends.
I love Katy Hudson books. This one has a great story, with a great message. I can’t wait to share this with my first graders and the book mobile. A definite must read and a definite must have!
This is the story of an introverted hedgehog who needs some help getting a big pumpkin back to his lot. Think Little Blue Truck, but with major social anxiety.
The illustrations are gorgeous. The woodland animals are perfect. And I love how you can see hedgehog's confidence grow throughout the story.
This is a definite purchase for my library. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I am a former preschool and kindergarten teacher as well as a mom of 7 children and a grandma of 2. I LOVE children’s books and have a huge collection. So when I say this is one of the sweetest children’s books I’ve read, that’s saying a lot. The illustrations just drew me in - all the attention to detail on every single page is extraordinary! This is a simple story of how we all have our part and that helping others is just something that should be natural. I adored this book so much!!
Great book to read to kids and interact with! Just wish the ending had a little more of him inviting his friends over or something. It seems to end abruptly. But great storyline and wonderful illustrations.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my review copy!
What a beautifully illustrated children’s book! I felt all the cozy feelings of fall, even on a 70 degree day!
Cute animal friends and a nod to introverts…my kind of book!
What a darling story of stepping out of your comfort zone and making friends. I loved the message of this story and my children absolutely loved the illustrations. This is one that we will read over and over for years to come.
A well-illustrated story about overcoming fears in order to do something outside of the box and also about making friends. I am a sucker for a hedgehog book, and so reading this one was a great opportunity to indulge myself since my kids are well past the picture book phase. The illustrations are lovely and the idea of a little hedgehog wanting to mix up his winter home and find a new one, in a pumpkin no less, is super cute. Not sure it hasn't been done before in some way, but that's ok, because the story works. This is a shy hedgie who, through his adventures, not only overcomes his fear of the unknown but also gets over his shyness with others and makes a few animal friends along the way.
The story moves well, although I did find a few spots with a less smooth transition, and the lesson is not too repetitive. Probably just enough. Sure, as an adult, a few things are a bit far fetched, but all in all, the story works.
I think this will be a good addition to fall and Halloween baskets for little ones.
This is such a cute picture book! The images are beautiful; they’re colorful and detailed. The story is sweet and shows that you can meet friends along the way that help make your journey easier. But it also reinforces that it can still be nice to be alone sometimes. The animals are very cute and it’s a quick read.

A shy hedgehog makes a bold plan to build a pumpkin house, except things never go according to plan. He tackles obstacle after obstacle with the help of new friends he meets along the way that each have their own special talent to assist. Though you may want to go it alone things are so much easier with friends ( not to mention less lonely). Colorful artwork, cute characters and engaging prose your lil will love.
"A Bold Pumpkin Plan " by Katy Hudson is a 32 page children's picture book. It is about a timid hedgehog who wants to have a new bold house made from a big pumpkin. His chosen pumpkin was a long way from home, and it wasn't going to be easy. As he goes home with his pumpkin, he needs help from various animals: mouse, raccoon, frog, and owl. Hedgehog, once a loner, now likes the company of his new friends.
The illustrations are great! They are bright and vibrant and very realistic! I really enjoyed this book!

Loved the artwork in this!! All the animals were so cute, especially the hedgehog and its social anxiety. Great story about overcoming fears and the friends you make along the road of your journey.
Adventurous and colourful!
This is a story about a little hedgehog finding ways to build a new better home. He gets to know new friends in this adventurous story and yes, the story is a happy one! I find the illustrations really beautiful and fun!
The book is more pictures and less writing which works well for the reading age group.
Thank you, Capstone, for the advance reading copy.
The illustrations in this picture book are gorgeous -- I love the use of color. In this sweet story, shy Hedgehog is trying to get his pumpkin house back home. He runs into one problem after another, but he also keeps encountering new animal friends uniquely suited to helping him get out of each jam. In the end, Hedgehog is happy to be quietly at home, but he now also enjoys his new friends.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

This is such a cute little book. This is bringing me back to the days when I was a little kid and I used to go read a pile of books on the kids section.
