I think that kids will be drawn to the lively and engaging artwork that Ruth Burrows has created in these pages. Her work dovetails neatly with the quotes.
As for the quotes…there are loads of them in this nearly 200 page book. They are organized by category. Just a few of the many subjects covered include Curiosity, Forgiveness, Helping Others, Making Mistakes, and Taking Risks.
Adults will undoubtedly enjoy seeing old favorite reads featured with a quote. Kids may well enjoy the many quotes too. This book also would make a great resource for choosing a child’s next book.
The very first quote is from Narnia; a later one was from my favorite Miss Rumphius. These showed me that there is rich material in this title. Each of these quotes could lead to interesting conversations between an adult and child.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for Kids for this title. All opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own
A wonderful collection of quotes from adored children's books. It's a lovely collection with beautiful illustrations
Look Out Book lovers, this one's for you!! As a lifetime book addict, especially of children’s literature, this was the perfect book. I enjoyed this so much! You need this treasury. In this book author Annie Sarac puts together amazing and memorable quotes from over 170 children’s books, both our old time favorites and some new modern classics. The quotes are all put together with a goal in mind, to uplift and be inspirational. They include things like friendship, being unique, things we are thankful for and enjoying life. I can’t get enough of this book. Every time I read it I find something new. Depending on my mood, quotes take on new meanings. I love finding words from books I grew up with and then some from even my children’s favorites. This will quickly become a treasured book for everyone.
I received this as an ebook ARC and I am so thankful to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for this opportunity to enjoy this book. I can’t wait to add it to my home library in October. As well as gifting to several of my book loving friends.
Enjoy this book. I know I treasure it already.
A million stars.
Thank you, SOURCEBOOKS KIDS, for the advance reading copy.
The entire book is PERFECTION. Love the cover, love the quotes, love the sections, love the minimal illustrations and the full page section wise art.
Kudos to the team!
I would tell you to gift this book to adults as well!
This collection of quotations from Children's Literature brings back the memories of reading each book and also the power of words. I enjoyed the variety of themes and the inclusion of so many titles but was surprised by some of the books that were considered classics. The themes would be great to incorporate into a classroom monthly focus - it might give educators the opportunity to introduce titles to young readers. I see this book as a resource for librarians and teachers more than a book for children. This was an ARC from Sourcebooks and NetGalley.
I love this book. It quotes many familiar titles and some I've never heard of . It is divided into chapters that include being different, friendship, A great gift for the adult that is in charge of the bulletin board or white board that needs inspiration. Also a gift for children that are not so great readers that like short well illustrated pages.
A fellow quote enthusiast from way back, I devoured "Inspiring Quotes from Children's Classics." Notebooks overflowing with snippets from everywhere, I found this book a kindred spirit. It beautifully curates quotes from both beloved and modern classics, offering wisdom for every chapter of life.
The book is organized into themes, including those such as Family, Making Mistakes, Being Different, Forgiveness, and many more. Quotes are accompanied by simple, yet lovely illustrations. It's a treasure trove of classic authors, including Maurice Sendek, A. A. Milne, E.L. Konigsburg, and Beverly Cleary. There are also quotes from newer gems, like CeCe Bell, Trenton Lee Stewart, Kate DiCamillo, and Magaret Peterson Haddix. So many authors are included! The sheer variety is delightful, inspiring me to revisit these works and savor the quotes in their full context.
This surpasses the well-worn Seuss book as the perfect graduation gift. "Inspiring Quotes from Children's Classics" is a powerful reminder of cherished childhood memories, while looking toward the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
Inspiring Quotes from Children's Classics is exactly what it sounds like. This book is divided into categories like books, forgiveness, the impossible, and taking risks. This would be a great addition to a classroom. I can see using this to spark kids' interest in reading different books. Hook them with a line.
When I first saw this, I immediately hoped it would be a useful tool to have in a classroom for writers. One recommended way to hook a reader is to use quotes, and I think this would be a great resource to have for student writers. I really liked the variety of books pulled from AND the compiled list of all books used to inspire further reading.
This book has a great collection of quotes from picture books to novels. They are organized by themes- love, friendship, family, forgiveness, etc. The choices of quotes were good, but I do wish the book was a bit longer and had illustrations that matched the quotes better.
"Inspiring Quotes from Children's Classics" by Annie Sarac, with illustrations by Ruth Burrows, is a delightful anthology that enchants readers of all ages. This book, received as a review copy from NetGalley, is a treasure trove for bookworms, evoking nostalgia and joy with every turn of the page. It's perfect for any family or child who cherishes the timeless wisdom found in children's literature.
The collection boasts over 170 quotes from beloved children's books, spanning both historical and modern classics. The variety includes timeless tales such as "Charlotte's Web," "The Wind in the Willows," and "Winnie-the-Pooh," as well as contemporary favorites like "El Deafo" and "We Are Water Protectors." Each quote is carefully selected to resonate with themes like friendship, courage, and individuality, offering readers not just a trip down memory lane but also profound life lessons.
One of the standout features of this book is its thematic organization. It helps readers connect quotes from different books that address similar ideas, enriching the reading experience. For instance, a quote from "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" by C. S. Lewis—"Some journeys take us far from home. Some adventures lead us to our destiny"—is beautifully paired with Julia Alvarez's "Home is wherever you are with the people you love. And that is always the best place to be!" from "The Tía Lola Stories: How Tía Lola Came to (Visit) Stay." These connections not only highlight the universality of certain truths but also deepen the impact of the quotes.
The illustrations by Ruth Burrows add another layer of charm to the book. Each page is adorned with beautiful, whimsical artwork that complements the quotes perfectly. The visuals not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also capture the essence of the stories, making the quotes even more impactful.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this collection is the way it sparks memories and emotions. Quotes like "You're mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are" from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "We must ask ourselves these questions as often as we dare. How will the world change if we do not question it?" from Kate DiCamillo's "The Magician's Elephant" serve as reminders of the joy, wonder, and introspection that classic children's literature inspires.
"Inspiring Quotes from Children's Classics" is not just a book; it's a journey through the landscapes of beloved stories that have shaped countless lives. Annie Sarac has curated a collection that is both heartwarming and thought-provoking, making it a must-have for any bookshelf. Whether you're a parent, a child, or simply a lover of literature, this book promises to be a source of inspiration and delight.
A broad range of quotes spanning different subject areas. Positive, inspiring, and well illustrated.
One thing I want to mention is that this book is marketed as a children's book; however, I think it is probably better suited for a middle grade (or even adult) audience, as many of the quotes and/or concepts might be difficult for younger readers to understand.
This is so lovely. I was really impressed by the range of books that the quotes come from. I'm hoping for a poster book or postcard set so that I can put the quotes up in our school library!
A sweet book nicely illustrated. My problem was I didn’t know all the books the quotes were from? That might be just my age or nationality? Still it did make me think I might take a look at some of the books I might have missed out on. For that reason I give it four stars.
Beautiful book! A staple if you have kids. My kids and I love reading this at dinner time and discussing our favorites. It’s a sweet book to gift, and just wonderfully put together. Highly recommend.
A sweet collection of quotes from some classic stories. I liked the inclusion of some modern, future classics as well. None of the quotes were too long. Overall, heartwarming and nostalgic. I didn't care for a few of the source books that you wouldn't find on anyone's list of children's classics due to their mass creation and unknown authors.
I love children's literature at least as much as an adult as when I was a child. This book helps explain why. When I saw the title, I imagined different quotes. The author did a much better job than I would have done! This bright, gorgeous picture book is full of hope and positivity. Adults will enjoy this too, because the quotes are helpful for people at any age.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
This is a wonderful, uplifting little book that highlights some famous and not as famous quotes from children’s books. There are sections focused on making mistakes, forgiveness, the impossible and hard work, among others. I like how it stresses the importance of believing in yourself and working to make make your dreams come true.
A copy of this would be wonderful for anyone, not just children. We take bits and pieces of our childhoods with us when we grow up, and bits of the books we read will stay with us throughout life. This book contains reminders of that.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Explore for an eARC. All opinions are mine alone.
