As a pasta lover- I thought this was such a fun and cute read. I read it to my students and they all loved it. It got us thinking about all our favorite pastas and made an excellent learning experience. Will definitely be reading it again and requesting a copy for our classroom.
The title says it all! If you aren't Italian, you probably had no idea that there are so many different types of pasta. Felicia Arena has grouped the pastas together to make a catchy lounge twisting rhyme. The afterward includes a pronunciation guide at the back for curious readers who want to get it exact. But if you let the rhyme scheme guide you, you can read it well enough to enjoy. Beatrice Cerocchi, simple bright colorful illustrations add to the fun. From the spaghetti "hair" on the cover to the pasta whiskers on the child with the cat, she is quite inventive. I read a temporary digital edition from the publisher which had no influence on my review. 🎵Stick this cute book in your cart, and call it macaroni!🎵🎶
It is true, the pasta names are fun to say. However, I think they could've said a lot more. This book would go great with a cooking lesson. The author could've included their favorite family pasta recipe. Maybe even added some photos of kids cooking with the different types of noodles.
This book definitely features an original topic! I’ve never seen another children’s book that is specifically about pasta noodles. The pronunciation guide in the back of the book will likely be helpful to many readers, myself included. I loved the illustrations. This book made me hungry! Haha!
What a fun early years picture book!
Graphically bold illustrations, interesting text placement and fun repetition of sounds. I was relieved to see a page in the back to help with the pronunciation of some of the less familiar pasta names. As a Teacher Librarian reading this advanced copy from NetGalley, I had so many lesson ideas for 3 year old to Year 2 classes.
I will definitely be purchasing copies for both our junior libraries. Bellissimo!
The title of this book sums it up! This book is full of fun words to say and written in a cadence that's fun to read. The illustrations are cute and I think any family of pasta lovers will want to add this to their library.
In Pasta! These Names Are Fun to Say, everything is about pasta! It will introduce children to fun pasta names such as Rigatoni, Cannelloni, Bucatini, Capellini, Pappardelle, Pennette, Riccioli, Gnocchi, and Fagioloni. It was very helpful to find a pronunciation guide at the end of the book that aids parents and children in pronouncing all the fun pastas in the book. This book was beautifully illustrated by the illustrator.
Told in rhyming verse, the fun shapes and names of noodles are introduced to babies and toddlers. I love that they included an illustration of a little one wearing a pasta necklace, because that was a fun craft that my 2-year old learned to do when his pincer grasp developed more. I recommend this for toddler storytimes and daycares, with a pasta craft for a follow up, or a taste of buttered noodles of course!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Sourcebook Kids for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was cute, but could be challenging for even the adults reading this book. There is a glossary at the back of the book which teaches you how to pronounce the names of all the pastas mentioned, but you would either have to read the glossary before you read the book or make mistakes. The ending was cute and the pictures were well drawn.
Pasta! - This is a fantastic book with a perfectly rhyme words and beautiful coloured pages with all pastas I never even knew existed. The pronunciation guide is excellent at the back of the book. This book is educational guide for the children and the adults to learn how to make a pasta for dinner with good pronunciation!
Thanks a lot to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for the opportunity to read and review this book. I enjoyed it with my teens!
This is a perfect book for a child who loves pasta! It gives all the different pasta names and then the sauces are included. It's fun and the illustrations make it easy to recognize the pasta shapes. I wish this book were out when my son was little because he would have loved it, as pasta was/is his favorite thing to eat.
An absolutely fun book for children all about pasta and its endless possibilities. We get to learn so many new words for us, which are fun to say names of different types of pastas. Then we get to see the many things they add to make the pasta yummy, like the sauces and cheeses. This was a great way to introduce foods to little ones and help them find new foods they may want to try and enjoy. The illustrations are full of bold and bright colors and bring out the fun of this story. Your family will enjoy this book together. This is perfect for the little future chef in your life. It would also be perfect to use in an early childhood classroom.
Pasta ! - These names are fun to say , is the cutest kids book about different types of pastas and how to pronounce them.
Love reading this with my lil one. He loved looking at different pasta's too which he hasnt tried yet.
The book comes out on October 1st, 2024
Super cute and fun! I will be purchasing for our collection! This would be great at story time- lots of potential craft ideas!
This book went through an extremely long list of different types of pastas, including many I never heard of before! It was fun to read aloud, because they were grouped so they would rhyme, but there wasn't much plot, so I think this would be geared towards younger children. Overall, it was a fun book with cute pictures.
This book is cute, but likely not something I would buy for my toddler or for a friend. I think it would be sentimental to someone with Italian heritage, but overall, it is a bit of a difficult read for someone who is not sure how to pronounce the words. I think the graphics of the book are great, and again, it could be a great gift for someone who has a tie to Italian heritage or cuisine, but otherwise, I feel as if it hits a general target audience.
For super young readers, I think that this is a fun book to learn pasta names. There is some rhyming that makes the story flow nicely and it makes the book almost predictable - in a good way. As for the illustrations, it was impressive how the illustrator was able to make all of the drawings pasta-themed without it becoming too repetitive or boring. The illustrator managed to work with the variety of the pasta to make each page feel fresh.
I just have one critique for this book. Some of the words were wildly different, and might be hard for some readers to understand how to pronounce. There was a pronunciation guide at the end of the book, but it takes the reader out of the book to look up the pronunciation while reading or to struggle with reading the names. Due to these unique pronunciations of the pasta names, I would put the phonetic pronunciation underneath each word, to make for a better reading experience.
Overall, I liked seeing a uniquely Italian kids' book and I had fun reading this book!
Thank goodness there is a pronunciation guide to the end of this book. This is a simple book that lists various types of pasta. If you’re saying the names right it’ll rhyme, if you’re not, it’s a tongue twister. I think a book that names the various type of pasta and gets to the pasta sauces will be very helpful with picky eaters.
This little book is perfetta! Perfect for reading aloud with it's rhythmic cadence and crescendos, perfect for lap sitting story time exploring the shapes and squiggles that make each noodle unique, and perfect for a room full of toddlers crafting with pasta (or just pretending to cook up a pot or two). The pronunciation guide at the back is a nice touch as some readers (possibly many readers!) will be unfamiliar with at least a few of these types of pasta, but the colorful and engaging illustrations are sure to spark a grocery store scavenger hunt for more than just macaroni! Thank you to NetGalley for access to this delightful ARC.
This is a cute book full of lots of pastas we never even knew existed. It has great illustrations. The is a pronunciation guide at the back of the book. Personally what I would like to do is have my Italian foreign language daughter read this while being recorded so we get the real Italian pronunciation. Some of these words are big words, it's not going to be a beginner reading book. Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for the opportunity to read and review this book. I enjoyed it.
