As a cryptid and folklore lover, I couldn't help but get this book. This is such a cute and informative look at cryptids and folklore from all over the globe. If you are looking for a gift idea for the person in your life that loves the mysterious and unknown, this is absolutely it. This is such a cute presentation of the information about so many of our favorite creatures, with such excellent art. I highly recommend this book.

I really like this book. The art style was absolutely beautiful. The content was very spooky but perfect for fans of Spirits podcast or other urban legend based shows. It's the perfect gift for the spooky friend or to collect. I had heard of many of the ones included in this collection but it was nicely presented in this guide.

A well-researched and beautiful compilation of creatures originating throughout history and cultures. The book is a well-organized collection of artistry and gives thorough description of each subject as well as a brief historical background when possible. Plus, the bibliography provides so much information and plenty of future reading material.

Super cute. Selected because the cover resembles one of my plant's little blossoms. I will always love a creature book. So interesting, and fun for reluctant readers to look at.

I have always been interested in folklore and all and this book perfectly fits my needs. I learned a lot of new stuff. I even found the perfect new villain for my own fantasy childrens book that I'm writing! I would really love to read another volume about even more cryptids!

I just finished this book and had so much fun with it! As a big fan of cryptozoology, I was thrilled to see the Flatwoods Monster right on the cover—it’s such a cool touch.

Concise, efficient and engaging. Mostly consistent set-up in length, background, appearance, and beliefs. Comprehensive appendix references that allow for further exploration. Lively illustrations that capture the worded description with style. Monsters included are wholesome, macabre, and diabolical. Unbiased and lighthearted narrator. Adult content is forewarned but may attract a younger audience due to the artwork. Stimulates wonder, amazement, and curiousity. Recommended for those wanting to dip their toes into ominous creatures. Overall, a good read.

"In Japan, testicles are sometimes called "golden balls", creating the punchline that they paid for gold with gold."

A big thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

An adorable graphic novel that is both terrifying and educational.

Cryptids, Creatures & Critters: A Manual of Monsters and Mythos from Around the World features 90 different creatures from around the world, each with their own researched description and full-color illustrations. The book is divided into three sections: cryptids, folklore, and mythology. It features popular cryptid favorites, such as Mothman and the Flatwoods Monster, and some lesser-known cryptids, such as the Enfield Horror and the Montauk Monster. For folklore, there are kelpies, selkies, cat sidhes, and grimalkins, along with the dobarchu and the vampiric pumpkin! In mythology, you'll find Medusa, sphinx, Pegasus, and the bukavac!

Yes. Yes. Yes. This book is just all yes. Give me more!

Cryptids, Creatures, & Critters is an absolutely adorable book. I absolutely love the illustrations and the broad scope of cryptids covered. There were quite a few, like the cactus cat, that I had previously never heard of. This book is an absolute must for anyone who is interested in the topic.

Thank You to NetGalley for the ARC.

I’m a natural-born sucker for fantasy. Bring that same fantasy, things that should be impossible, to real life, and I am all yours. I have this fascination for impossible creatures. Some call them cryptids, some monsters, others just figures and characters from folklore and mythology. I call them culture. That’s why I decided to get my hands on Cryptids, Creatures & Critters: A Manual of Monsters & Mythos from Around the World, by Rachel Quinney.

As a lover of all things folklore/mythology/legend, I was excited to see a book specifically featuring creatures like cryptids. This was a really fun collection with a lot of background information for each entity featured, plus vibrant art to illustrate how each creature is believed to look (in some cases a few different ways). I did wish that there was more because I know there were some parts of the world/cultures that were not touched on, but understand that only so much could be featured in this book. I would love to see more in a similar vein from this author as the writing style flowed well and was succinct while also full of great information.

Quinney offers quite an enjoyable look at a comprehensive collection of cryptids and creepy characters from both folklore and mythology. This is a lot of fun, and certainly a book I'd look at again and again. I'm a little confused as to the intended audience as the text seems aimed at adults, but most of the illustrations depict the beings as adorable Pokemon critters.

I definitely plan on buying a paper copy of this one.

Cryptids, Creatures, and Critters is a fun guide to all kinds of mythical creatures from around the world, including well-known and unique critters alike. Featuring art of each creature, the guide gives descriptions of each along with their history, locations, and in some cases specific origin stories. I was impressed by the wide range of cryptids, aliens, spirits, monsters, etc. that are included in the book. It’s a nice touch point for myths and legends for readers who are looking to dip their toes into the world along side our own. And it’s a great reference read for more knowledgeable readers as well.

I like that this had a couple of widely-known creatures, like bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster, but was mostly about smaller ones, many of which I had never heard of before. I do wish that if a creature was described, that the illustration matched the given description. Many times it was noticeably different.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Loved it. Just the cutest illustrations. I really appreciated the care that went into respecting each culture. Found some new favorites along the way. Appreciated seeing some classics as well. I just wish there were more illustrations for the various critters.

My West Virginia family LOVES cryptids. My family is from Point Pleasant so I grew up Mothman. I loved reading this book with my 7 year old son. We loved reading about our favorite cryptids like the Flat woods Monster and Mothman but really enjoyed exploring new cryptids we were unfamiliar with.. This is a book that I will definitely by buying for my child so we can reference cryptids and see the amazing illustrations. If you are mildly curious about cryptids or an avid cryptid lover this book is for you! Five Stars! Thank you to NetGalley and Rachel Quinney for this Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 5/5
I received eARC for my honest opinion

First let me start off with wow! There are so many interesting Cryptids, Creatures and Critters that I didn’t know about. I loved all the information and the references that the author made to help the readers to see that some of the creatures have similarities to other creatures that were in the book before or after the creature you’re learning about. I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book, they were amazingly detailed. I would definitely want this book on my shelves to read again.

I want to thank NetGalley and Andrew’s McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.
