This was a lovely sweet story about a young pelican.
In the book the little pelican is trying to follow and chase his dreams but he falls short time and time again. He wants to be just like his grandfather and to join the Pelican Squad.
The relationship between the young pelican and his grandfather is great and I loved seeing this develop. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens in part 2.
The illustrations in this book are great and they really suit the story.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended and can't wait to read part 2
This was a sweet little book about a little Pelican learning to dive. He is supported by his Grandfather - their relationship was very wholesome. The illustrations are lovely and bright.
I’m struggling with what age range this book is meant to be for. It is lengthier than other books I read to my 4 year old and I must admit it was a struggle to keep his attention for 48 pages. My 6 year old could read this one himself. Although there are a lot of pages, most of them do not have much writing - some without any - just pictures. So it isn’t a long read, but longer than I usually read to them.
It is also the first children’s book I have ever come across that includes a cliffhanger in 15 years. My children prefer having a conclusion to their shorter stories. It also means having to buy/wait for the next instalment to find out what happens. That would be my only criticism - but perhaps it’s just my kids who aren’t patient enough.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a sweet little book about a pelican who is chasing his dreams but falls short. I liked the support showcased by his grandfather, however it ends on a cliffhanger so we do not see a resolution. Illustrations are fun and bright.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
The Littlest Pelican Part 1 by Susan Marie Chapman is a very cute children’s book the illustrations are wonderful. There are lessons to be learned in the story. Pick up this book for a child in stores today she or he will love it.
Follow the Littlest Pelican as he takes on the challenge of trying out for the prestigious Pelican Squad.
This book is so vibrant and really grabs your attention. The illustrations really provide depth to the story.
It is a fun story but also carries messages about the importance of family and learning from them as well as rising to the challenge and never giving up.
I know this is going to become one of our new favourites and can’t wait to read part 2.
The art in this book is so pretty!! I was reading this to my niece who I was babysitting and she kept repeating "pelican" LOL. The relationship between grandpa pelican and the littlest pelican was so sweet, I love how he comforted him after his failed dive. The only thing that I am going to criticize is that some of the language in this book is a little bit complicated for young children, for example ""prestigious" is a high level word! But, overall. it entertained my niece for the time being and she did enjoy it :) Thank you NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review :)
