Waking the Dead and Other Fun Activities by Casey Lyall is an absolute delight! Ever since I read My Girl as a child, I love the idea of books set at funeral homes. This one had hilarious moments, and heartfelt exploration of family and heritage. I read it in one sitting. The mix of mystery, magic, and undead antics makes it perfect for middle schoolers who love fast-paced, funny, and heartfelt adventures.

This was a fun and strange novel. I love that Kimmy's family owns and works in a funeral home granting last wishes to the newly departed. I loved how Kimmy wanted to go above and beyond to make the last wishes happen and that her family was worried she would take things to far. I loved the supernatural mystery, no spoilers, and how the family dealt with it.
