I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
This series is going to give me whiplash. I can barely keep up with all of the twist and turns that are constantly happening.
This books starts up where the first book left off. Caly is now in Seelie and is grieving the death of Mendax. She is reunited with Eli, but things are not all sunshine and rainbows as she thought they would be. The queen still refuses to give Caly the other half of her heart, Eli wants to get married, and Caly is conflicted. Adding to that, she seems to be keeping a secret.
All of this comes crashing down around her when it is revealed that Mendax is alive and wants Caly back. Now she is torn between who she perceives to be the villain her her best friends who she views as the golden hero. This leads to some extremely spicy and violent scenes that I could not get enough of.
So much happens in this book but I can't discuss too much without giving all of the most shocking moments away. All I can say is is that everything is not as it seems and don't believe a word that these characters say.
I am really hoping that in book three we have some why choose moments because it seems like the author may be setting that up, especially when Caly says that she can't choose between the two along with the intense chemistry between the three. All I can say for certain is that things are going to get explosive!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange of a honest review.
Ugh!!!!! I am so mad at what I just read. I just can't understand how this book was written by the same person. I have huge trust issues now lol. It was a mess and I am left gobsmacked that this was deemed as an acceptable ending to the series. We were robbed.
The first book confused me in the fun "what am I reading and what is happening and why can't I put it down" way. The second book confused me in the not-fun "what am I reading and what is happening and when can I put it down" way.
The first book was so weird and quirky and strangely endearing. The second book felt like it was written by a different author for a different series. The tone and writing style were considerably different, the characters were entirely different (by design in some cases), and the plot was completely different (again by design). While some of these differences WERE by design, they were jarring nonetheless, making me feel disconnected from the characters and story.
This book provides lots of background for the characters, so prepare yourselves for multiple POVs and many time jumps. Personally, I always find this immersion-breaking when the jumps and switches are constant, but I do know that many readers prefer this.
While I will not continue with the series, I will still recommend this to readers (one reader's negative experience is another reader's positive). If you are looking for a fantasy romance that reads differently from most of today's popular fantasy romances, you enjoy the more traditional type of faerie stories with Seelie and Unseelie courts and their strict magic laws, you may enjoy this! The ratings in the series so far say that I am not in the majority here, so I encourage readers to pick it still up if they feel drawn to it. Unfortunately, it just wasn't the series for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for an advanced digital reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved the first book. This one was a litter harder to navigate and didn't quite live up to the expectations I had. Still fun. Solid 3 stars. Thanks to NetGalley, publisher, and author for the chance to read this one.

I have mixed feelings about this one ..
It has a good world building, an interesting plot, it is intriguing, keeps you thinking..
But is very slow and confusing , lots of characters that can be overwhelming and there's constant shifts on the story line that I couldn't keep up, ambigue and a little bit complex..
.
I loved the haunted love, but sometimes Malum Mendax can be just a little bit too much..
.
.
All the feels:
🖤 fantasy
🧡 morally gray MMC
🖤 dark romance
🧡 multiple pov's
🖤 angsty

Thank you Jeneane O'Riley, Sourcebooks Bloom Books and Netgalley for this ARC. The opinions in heee are on my own.

This book was good. It's a good way to not only continue the story but to also expand the world. Did I enjoy it yes. Would I recommend it? Also yes. But why isn't it five stars then? It introduces so much more stuff that if we had gotten to known in the first one I wouldn't have felt as not lost but just kinda bored. Not all of it but the first couple chapters.
This book was pretty good. But I definitely liked the first book more. The plot was kind of all over the place and the story could have flowed better.
Following up from the first book in this series, this book was a little jumbled. I felt lost and confused. And maybe I just didn’t understand the reason for the additional characters? I just didn’t love this one as much as the first.
Caly’s back in “What Did You Do?”, trying to fit into her new life in the Seelie Court and preparing to marry Eli to finally receive the other half of her heart. Sounds dreamy, right? But wait! Enter Malum Mendax, the dark and brooding Unseelie Prince with a serious vendetta.
Caly’s journey is packed with action, drama, and a heap of spice. Her chemistry with Eli is meh, but I’m hopeful, and Mendax has a type of love that can only be described as “unhinged.”
The story gets a bit confusing at times, since the story isn’t linear but the I feel like learning so much about the past just adds to the character development.
I’m dying to see how the story unfolds in the next book. So many questions are still hanging, and I need those answers ASAP!
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the opportunity to review!
I am physically so upset with this book! I loved How does it feel, it was consistent and the plot was phenomenal. I was confused by the jumbled plot and then the random best friend becoming the love interest and the why choose plot that wasn’t a why choose. Can we just have Mendax and be done with it! I wanted to DNF this book all 300+ pages of the book but I just had to know if the plot was going to make sense, it didn’t. I praying that book 3 isn’t an utter disappointment because the author wrote a master piece with book 1, we want that energy of Mendax and Caly not this odd awkward love triangle with a confusing storyline
This book seemed kind of rushed. I really liked the first installment of the series, but this one was just ok. This story was a little confusing to follow. It did start coming together towards the end. I really enjoyed Walter. He was hilarious.
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the arc of this book.

Caly, now reunited with her family, struggles to adapt to her new life and the sacrifices she made to be with them. Despite giving up everything, she eagerly anticipates a ceremony to receive the second half of her heart and marry Prince Aurelius, securing her place in the Seelie Court. However, memories of Malum Mendax, the Unseelie Prince, haunt her as she prepares for the event. She feels his presence even in her dreams, unaware that he has returned to seek vengeance against her and those who took her away.
I feel like I have mixed feelings for this book.I was intrigued by the plot and enjoyed Mendax's dark and complex character, However I was left perplexed by inconsistent character motivations and the writing style. The constant shifts in emotions and thoughts among the characters made it difficult for me to follow, leading to a lot of frustration!
The pacing was…quite dragging, particularly with regard to Queen Saracen's POV, which I felt slowed down the story unnecessarily. I also didn’t feel the chemistry between our main characters.
Despite some captivating plot twists, I ultimately felt disappointed by the characterisation and writing style, especially in comparison to the first book in the series. I really did want to enjoy this as much as the first, but sadly couldn’t.

I think I actually liked this book more than the first one!
In this one we see Cali enter the Seelie world, I enjoyed the scenes of her exploring the different nature scenes and animals / shop markets and dealing with people of the realm.
I really enjoyed the world building and history in this second book. We come to understand how things came to be in the present, and the relationships between the royal families and how they came to fued.
We also got a lot more back story to Cali’s childhood, her upbringing and family, and how her relationship with the queen / Eli began. A lot of truths came to light and it ended on a cliff hanger that had me excited for the third book.
This series is on the edge of seriously weird yet entertaining and addictive. I will absolutely be reading the third instalment to see what happens next 🤣
