nnocent Intent by KC Mills was an engaging read with compelling characters and a well-paced storyline. The chemistry between the leads stood out, and the emotional depth added a layer of authenticity. I am excited to read more from this Author. Thank you to the publisher for the Arc. The Arc was provided in exchange for my honest review
As a KC Mills fan I was definitely interested in seeing how this book turned out because I’m used to romance from her! As someone who isn’t much of a thriller girly this was a perfect introduction to that genre. This book kept me on a ride the entire time and I loved it!!
Money, motives and a little bit of misconduct! Possibly a mystery too... personally I think Innocent Intent was mismarketed as a thriller when it should have been labeled as a mystery. At no point did we believe Cassidy was guilty and it was all about proving it.
My interest was piqued with trying to determine who framing Cassidy, however I had one minor problem with the why. You can't tell me you want her to pay for her wrongdoing but didn't want her to be framed for murder. At the end of the day it's either day it's either going to be you are me and it sholl ain't about to be me!
I also could have lived without the romance... I know KC is most notably a romance author but here it seemed like a means to an end for both of them rather than a relationship built to last. I could have acknowledged if they mutually used each other given the circumstance but ultimately moving in together seems to be a stretch.
However I was here for the underlying backstory and needed to see it through.
I have been loving romantic suspense lately, so I was excited to read this one by K.C. Mills. It definitely didn't disappoint. Cassidy is a criminal psychologist who finds herself the prime suspect in her husband's murder. As she works to clear her name and determine what really happened to her husband, she finds out that he was living a double life. Detective Nate Davis is leading the investigation into the murder of Cassidy's husband. Does he believe her when she says she's innocent?
The suspense and drama was at an all time high in this book. I enjoyed the romantic relationship between Cassidy and Nate. I found myself rooting for Cassidy and hoping she would come out on top the whole way through. The romance storyline. was a slow burn, but it fit well with the suspenseful plot that was developing. This was an easy read with twists and turns. There were some predictable parts, but there were some parts that completely took me by surprise. Overall, an easy and enjoyable read!
Thank you NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Innocent Intent by K.C. Mills had all the right ingredients for a great romantic suspense. The drama, secrets, and mildly spicy scenes kept me hooked and worked really well. All of the revelations about Cassidy and her husband’s past, kept me racing to beat my Kindle’s "time to complete." While the twists didn’t quite hit the mark for a true thriller, it’s a solid effort for this author’s first attempt at the genre. If you're looking for something with more drama and romance than thriller-level twists, this one is a solid 4-star read!
I think I came in with the wrong expectations for this story. I came in for the thriller aspects but that fell flat for me. There isn’t any tension with anything going on and it feels like half of the scenes are just filler. It leans more to the romance side, which I should have expected considering the author is a romance author. But the summary didn't give me any indication that the book would focus on building the romance with the characters instead of the mystery. I’m highly disappointed. I think I'll just stick to this author's regular contemporary romance.
I loved the plot and theme of this book this book was absolutely contagious I could not put it down this was my first KC Mills book but won't be my last. Thank you for the advance copy reading
This book kept me guessing until the end. There's suspense, secrets, and love throughout. K.C. Mills had me acting like a detective trying to solve the case. I loved it.
3.75 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ .75 stars! Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Cassidy was a criminal psychologist and is currently a bestselling author and has been married for three years to Niles. Niles is a private investigator and he travels for work. Overall, they have a great relationship.
Cassie starts feeling like something is going on with Niles when she overhears one of his phone calls and decides to follow him. She follows him to an apartment complex that she didn’t know about and thinks that he’s cheating on her. The next day, she goes to a murder scene with one of her law enforcement friends and realizes that it was Niles that was killed.
Detective Nate Davis is working this case trying to find any leads on who would’ve murdered Niles. So far, all leads are pointing to Cassidy as the min suspect but she is claiming her innocence.
Cassidy is trying to prove her innocence while also keeping a secret, while Nate is trying to find out whodunit. Nate decides to keep Cassidy close to him because not sure if he should believe her or not. While Nate is getting more info on Niles’ past, Cassidy is learning more about Niles and she starts to realize maybe she didn’t know her husband after all. I didn’t predict the ending. Really good thriller that I recommend.
From the very first chapter, this book had me completely engrossed. The twists and turns were absolutely fantastic. Cassidy Evans, a charismatic criminal psychologist, discovers that her husband is not who she thought he was, adding a thrilling layer to the narrative. The intense romance between the almost main suspect and the detective was palpable throughout. This story kept me guessing until the very last page, and the ending was simply amazing—I can't stop thinking about it! K.C. Mills has done a phenomenal job with this book, making it a top read for me this year. I would definitely pick it up again!
Special thanks to Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
3.5 stars
I did enjoy this quite a bit. Although I would say this was more of a romantic suspense than a thriller.
Anyway, I pretty much figured out who did it very early but I did enjoy the ride to the very end.
Thanks to Black Odyssey Media and Netgalley for the ARC!
A man is suddenly killed and of course the wife is the main suspect and it doesn’t help that she was seen on camera at the apartment hours before he was found. Thought that isn’t even the craziest part his wallet shows him as someone else entirely, someone she never knew. This is when the story really picks up and we start to wonder who is a liar and killer.
I think this was a great story with hints sprinkled in throughout, I will say I guessed the killer but didn’t guess the why. The why is what really made this story so good.
An enjoyable read. If you enjoy a suspenseful romance you will like this one . This book was interesting and kept me guessing throughout.
My thanks to the publisher, NetGalley and the author for this review copy. This review is my honest opinion about the story and is based on my completing the book.
This was genre jump for me as I normally do not read romance books. I tried this on a whim. And was I intrigued as KC laid out a fine tale. A renowned criminal psychologist and author finds herself in the hot seat when her husband is murdered. What's not to like with a story based on this line. As she slowly progresses into becoming the prime suspect in the murder she starts finding out about her husbands other life. Multiple affairs lay at his door and Cassidy as our protagonist starts unlearning everything she has ever learnt. Then the detective is thrown into the mix for the romance and things get complicated fast.
The thriller parts get a bit lost as the law does not progress further than the detectives. No lawyers are brought in to support Cassidy but this does not stop the book from holding interest. The romance is sprinkled all over.
This is a good enjoyable story.
I've been meaning to get into this author's books for years, but never knew where to start. When I saw she had a trad release coming up, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to finally give her a go and here we are.
I agree with other reviewers who said Innocent Intent felt more like romantic suspense than a thriller. There was a bigger focus on the romance than the mystery, and the latter wasn't that hard to solve (except for Davis, apparently, hah).
I guessed the culprit from the first clue we were given about them, but this didn't hinder my enjoyment. I was interested to see what this person's reasons were for doing what they did, and there was a twist relating to that which I didn't see coming.
It was a very light and easy read, would've been finished in one go too, but alas, I haven't had a lot of time these past few days so it got stretched out.
Mills's writing style is very compelling and pulls you into the story instantly, so I know I'm going to have a good time with whatever book of hers I pick up next.
As for the characters, I really liked Cassidy, and got annoyed every time Davis (or another cop) would insist she had to be behind her husband's death with zero proof. NO!! LEAVE HER ALONE!!!
Davis was not the best investigator, but I liked his romance with Cassidy. I wasn't his biggest fan at the start, because of what I mentioned in the previous paragraph, but grew to like him as the book went on.
I also enjoyed every new reveal relating to Cassidy's husband, just how many secrets did that man keep? Too many.
Overall this was a fun read, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a suspenseful story with a nice romance and interesting main character. Also, please support this author and publisher guys!!
*Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
With Innocent Intent, K.C. Mills reminds me why I fell in love with her work last year. The first book I read by her was last year and it was 24 Three. From there, I dived into her catalogue and quickly realized that if her name was on it, Imma read it. 😂
Within the first chapter of Innocent Intent, it draws the reader into this enticing game of ‘Whodunnit’ and I’m a huge fan of crime thrillers. When it comes to watching crime shows, call me Captain Benson, because I am always going to figure out who the culprit is. But, I did NOT expect it to unfold the way it did. K.C. Mills kept you on your toes with the mystery and thriller while also serving you some Black love and I was here for all of it.
K.C. Mills was in her thriller bag when she wrote this and I’m excited to see what else she has in store for the genre. Can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy!
If you’re a fan of romance thrillers and whodunits, I would definitely recommend!!!

Thank you to NetGalley for the Arc for my honest review…
I’ve been familiar with KC since wayyyy in her old publisher who shall not be named time. So I’ve read her and have loved her for forever. Seeing that she had a thriller coming out had me excited. Reading the book I was getting aggravated with the detective because he was all over the place in his plot to try to convict Cassidy although she didn’t do anything. No evidence whatsoever. There weren’t many parts that made this feel like a thriller to me. Honestly it felt like I was reading a slow burn romance somewhat.
It took me quite some time to read this Arc because it felt like a romance versus a thriller. There was no real detective work involved and it just seemed like we were just showing Davis trying to get a love interest.
3.5 for this new story by K. C. Mills. I’m definitely familiar with this authors work so I already loved her style of writing & was interested in her spin on hearing she was putting out a thriller. Telling Cassidy & Detective Davis story it felt more like a suspenseful novel & she did include romance as well. It definitely grabs you from the very page to try to figure out what’s going on so that you can get a bit of back story on what’s happening. Detective Davis is a lone wolf that gives his co-workers including his captain hell the entire book because he’s not really a team player and then he starts softening up a bit towards the end because of Cassidy. Dr. Cassidy Evan’s had a tough upbringing but in spite of it all grew up to be very successful but her past may have come to cause some issues. Overall it was a fine thriller romance book and I’m grateful for my complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
K.C. Mills has done it again. I loved this book so much. I’m new to thrillers and suspense novels! I think this was a great read for someone wanting to dip their toe into thrillers and for those who often find themselves reading thrillers. I read this book in two sittings, and that was only because I needed to get some rest for work in the morning! From the beginning, I tried solving the crime. I didn’t think I would like the MMC, but by the end, I had to add him to my book boyfriend list.
The book follows Nate, a newish detective, and the world-renowned criminal psychologist Cassidy, who is the number one suspect in her husband’s murder. However, her husband isn’t at all who she thinks he is. She does move a little sketch in hopes of clearing her name, which really had me on the edge of my seat. When I picked this book up, I couldn’t put it back down. I didn’t know who to trust! Can I trust Nate? Can I trust Cassidy? Can I even trust the evidence?
If you are looking for a good popcorn thriller with some slow-burn romance, look no further! Thank you Netgalley and Black Odyssey Media for the ARC.
