I enjoyed this one a lot. Cassidy thought she was living the dream until she wasn’t. Now her husband is dead, she’s the prime suspect, and she’s attracted to the detective who’s trying to put her in jail. That’s definitely a nightmare.

This felt more like a romantic suspense than a thriller to me but that could be because I’m a romance girl, so that’s always gonna be what I hone in on in a story. KC wrote this so well, as she usually does. I tried to figure out who did it but I was wrong every single time and that was my favorite part of this read. Finding out the who and the why was A MOMENT.

I also really enjoyed the characters. I liked Cassidy a lot. I wanted her to find out the truth and not be in jail and I loved detective Nate Davis. His focus on solving the case and the way he wasn’t here for any of the bs was enjoyable to read. Every time I put this book down I just wanted yo pick it back up, I was completely invested in the story and solving the case. Congratulations to KC Mills for an amazing traditional debut. I definitely want to see more from her in the thriller/romantic suspense genres.

Thanks to Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for the ARC. All thoughts and feelings are my own.

Think Reesa Teesa with a side of Date Line- who did I marry and now he's dead but I didn't do it. Cassidy's reputation is at stake and she surely is the prime suspect. Things don't look good, is she a jilted wife, a woman scorned, or an unfortunate wife to a husband she doesn't really know? I figured out who might have done about midway but the reason was a wee bit of a surprise. Cassidy is flawed but she gets put through the wringer until the very end.

Cassidy Evans thought life was perfect. She has an amazing job as a published criminal psychologist and an amazing husband; life couldn't get better. However, everything changes when one of her husband's dirty deeds is brought to light, and in the blink of an eye, Cassidy's life is changed forever. K.C. Mills ability to write truly shines here because the mystery behind what happened with the husband truly had me all in, and I really wasn't sure who was innocent and who was guilty. Cassidy and Nathaniel's romance seemed a little abrupt, but it wanted center stage, so I didn't mind too much. I had so much fun reading this, but K.C. Mills is one of my favorite authors, so I knew this book was going to be a fun

Innocent Intent - Release Date: June 25, 2024
Thank you KC Molly’s and Black Odyssey for a copy of this ARC

Imagine you're married to an amazing guy and you believe you have the American Dream. A house, a great husband, your dream career which happens to be your own business and then...your husband ends up dead. But is he your husband? And now you're accused of his murder. 😮

Cassidy Evans is the main suspect in the death of her husband. K.C. did an amazing job giving us the build up that was well worth the wait. Once you get through her background story and learn more about her husband, the story moves in a way that you don't realize what's about to happen next.

We watch as Cassidy deals with her husband's death all while developing feelings for a new boo and though it may sound wild...I am absolutely here for it! 😏😍 It's amazing how the very people we think we know become strangers in a matter of seconds.

If you're into thrillers, mystery, murder, and a slow burn with twists and turns in between. This one's for you. Highly recommend!

Cassidy Evans discovers news about her husband and next she learns he has been murdered and she is now the prime suspect. While trying to clear her name, she consistently encounters the detective working the case. Nathaniel Davis is determined to uncover the truth but the roads are leading to Cassidy as the culprit. While both are trying to find the real killer, the chemistry between these two is off the charts. Will they be able to get to the truth or will Cassidy take the fall? Readers will need to pick up a copy of this one to find out.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Ms. Mills did a great job crafting this story, to include, mystery, intrigue, betrayal and romance. The character development was on point. Readers may start out hating Nathaniel but will quickly fall for him. Cassidy is one determined woman and at times she and Nathaniel will clash but learn to trust each other until doubts sets in. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and so glad I discovered K. C. Mills work. Well-written!

I love me a good suspense and with some romance too, yes please!

This book had me hooked from the beginning and it kept my attention all the way through. I was suspicious of everyone when trying to figure out who committed the murder and I appreciated the way K.C. Mills planted the seeds and connected the dots to lead up to the big reveal. I did not know when I first read the synopsis that there was going to be a romance element in the book but you will get no complaints from me. I was happy with the ending and glad some of my suspicions didn't pan out. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I think it is perfect for fans of suspense/romance.

Thank you to the publisher Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Innocent Intent kept me captivated and working hard to crack this case. Just when you think you’ve got it, there’s a new lead to follow. This starts out at a slower pace introducing our main characters and their backgrounds. Once it picks up you’ll be left wondering what will be revealed next.

Cassidy is at the top of her game as a criminal psychologist; who is now questioning everything she once believed to be true. Then we have Nate the new mysterious detective that wants to follow his gut feelings, but without the smoking gun how can he get the case closed? The six degrees of separation went deep in this tale. The romance between our main characters was simmering and slowly burning until it boiled over. Although it was not ideal for the circumstances of the investigation they had more in common than you’d expect. Nate and Cass were sweet together.

I enjoyed Innocent Intent. It is different from other books that I’ve read from K.C. Mills, and I can’t wait to see more romantic suspense/thrillers from her.

Thanks to the publisher Black Odyssey Media and Netgalley for the ARC copy and opportunity to review. All thoughts are my own!

I just want to start off by saying that this book didn't feel much like a thriller to me. It felt more like a light suspense story with a side of romantic development between the two main characters. I'm very disappointed that there was less focus on the crime in the story. Instead, we had Detective Nathanial Davis running around with no actual evidence against Cassie, the other main character. There was no real detective work done during the reading. It also felt like there was too much focus on Davis being a lone wolf who couldn't be bothered with his co-workers, and Cassie seemed like a minor inconvenience added to move the plot along. I understand the need for background information on characters, but in "Innocent Intent," it felt like there was too much information overload that didn't necessarily move the plot forward.

Can't say that I enjoyed this as much as I wanted to, but I am looking forward to seeing where this author goes on this new journey.

*Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.

Now a mystery with suspense and some dashes of romance i can most certainly do. This was good. Nate and Cassidy had some nice chemistry that had me wondering was this real or for show?? Nate had to keep his head on straight and Cassidy wanting to clear her name. K.C. Mills definitely had me going because who in the heck do i believe. Both characters had not the best backgrounds growing up. So just maybe they were meant to meet but under such circumstances is wild. I also enjoyed the twist and turns because once again who can be trusted with telling the truth? Where is the evidence leading us? I tell you what, i would have never guessed.

Check this read out come June 25th, 2024.

Cassidy Evans (Crime Psychologist) is the prime suspect in her husband’s murder. Cassidy goes to a crime scene with and old colleague, Cassidy is shocked to discover that the victim is her husband. She quickly finds out that the identity of the murdered victim, doesn’t match the name on their marriage license.

Of course, with this being a high profile case because of Cassidy being an author and gaining notoriety from cases she’s handled everyone believes she is a murderer. The lead detective on the case is, Nathanial Davis. He is determined to find the truth while keeping Cassidy VERY close!

I don’t tend to read a lot of thrillers, but I love KC Mills books! Innocent Intent kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who set Cassidy up or figure out if she really did this! My views changed a couple of times while reading!

I really enjoyed this read, and would definitely recommend if you like thrillers! It wasn’t a fast read for me, I would read then sit with my thoughts and I annotated (digitally) a lot! 🕵🏽‍♀️

Innocent Intent by K.C. Mills

Pub Date Jun 25 2024

When a wife becomes the prime suspect in her husband’s murder, this criminal psychologist must forget everything she thought she knew in order to clear her name.

For a whodunnit/thriller, I felt it was very well done. The way the characters were introduced and how the author allowed us to see them through the MC’s perspective also helped move the storyline forward. However, the development of the relationship between Cassidy and Nathaniel didn’t feel believable to me, especially considering what Cassidy had just gone through and Nathaniel’s character. It seemed that this aspect was rushed to add some 🌶️🌶️ to the storyline. Although I am not sure it was entirely necessary for this particular book, its inclusion didn’t take anything away from the plot.

Overall, it was an enjoyable and well-written read. Lovers of psychological thrillers are likely to enjoy this one.

While reading this book, I was on pins and needles trying to figure out who the real killer was. At first I just knew that the wife was guilty of the crime because she found out that her husband was cheating on her, but it was an amazing plot twist that kept twisting and turning as we got closer to the end of the book. Phenomenal book!

After her husbandis found murdered, criminal psychologist, Cassidy becomes the main suspect in his death. With motive and opportunity, Cassidy must work to clear her name.
Detective Davis is determined to find the truth, no matter who he has to interrogate.

I must say those lines started blurring very quickly.

While a good story, it was slightly predictable. I would have liked a more exciting ending.

I believe this is the authors first venture into psychological thrillers and I think she did a good job.

K.C. Mills is one of my favorite authors and I have read several of her romance novels. When I heard that she was going to be releasing a mystery thriller, I was excited. Although my favorite genre to read as of late has been romance, I knew that if K.C. Mills wrote it, the genre did not matter….it was going to be good! And boy was I right.

I loved the suspense, mystery thriller, with a dash of romance. This was a perfect recipe for a book and really took me back to my high school days when I exclusively read murder mystery novels.

The main character in this novel is Cassidy Evans. She was an esteemed criminal psychologist who has been accused of murdering her husband. Now, she must work to prove her innocence.

This story had some unexpected twists and turns and really kept me on my toes! I loved that. The characters were well developed. The plot was superb and well thought out and the story was very engaging (I read the book in just a few days and the pacing was perfect).

Reading this book has reawaken the lover of murder mystery novels in me and I cannot wait to explore this genre more as an adult. I loved K.C. Mills before this, and I am excited to read more of her books in this genre.

ADDICTIVE!! This riveting and suspenseful debut psychological thriller seamlessly blends elements of mystery and romance, leaving readers guessing until the very end!! I was captivated from the start and devoured this book in one sitting because it was that compelling. Determined to figure out whodunnit and why kept me flipping the pages so fast. As an avid thriller reader, I was impressed by my inability to solve this one! Get ready to be amazed; just when you think you know the culprit, the twists will keep coming and shatter your theories. This is my first read by K.C. Mills and it will not be my last! I cannot wait to read more of her books! Another thriller to add to my favorites list for 2024!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

After dedicated fieldwork, Cassidy retires to share her expertise on killers' mentalities as a novelist. Now a published author, she is happily married and spends her time traveling the world, teaching others how to understand twisted minds.

Despite her extensive knowledge, Cassidy overlooks the lies of the person closest to her. When she tags along to a crime scene with an old colleague, she is shocked to discover the victim is her husband. To make matters worse, the victim's identity doesn't match the name on their marriage licenses. Cassidy's world spirals out of control when she becomes the main suspect. I thoroughly enjoyed this engrossing and entertaining mystery thriller! I highly recommend and it deserves all the stars!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a really great read. It really flowed and built up nicely. I like how the love story evolved between Cass and Davis. I will say it was predictable to me but it didn’t keep me from enjoying the book.

I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Anyone who knows me knows romantic suspense is my jam. So, when I heard K.C. Mills was jumping into this genre, I immediately requested an ARC and sis did not disappoint. Cassidy Evans is a world-renowned criminal psychologist and bestselling author who finds herself on the other side of the law when her husband is mysteriously murdered. When it’s discovered that he’s been living a double life and having multiple affairs, Cass immediately becomes the prime suspect. With her world turned upside down and no one to trust, she begins to question everything she thought she knew.

Nathaniel Davis is the new detective in town, and he makes it known he’s not there to make friends. Nate said he’s there to close cases and das it. Because Cass has such close working relationship with the detectives of APD, it’s deemed a conflict of interest for any of them to work the case so, Nate is assigned as the lead detective. That does not go over well with his new brothers in blue. He could care less about Cass’ notoriety or popularity with the other detectives. If she’s guilty, he plans to prove it.

The suspense in this book had me on edge the entire time. Every time I thought I knew who the killer was, the author threw curveball that kept me guessing. And, I loved the romance between Cass and Nate. It was a slow burn but, the attraction between them was intense. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense then, Innocent Intent is a must read. It's action packed and it has the perfect balance of romance and suspense. You won’t be disappointed. Congratulations to K.C. Mills on her first traditionally published novel. I hope there are many more in your future. Thank you to Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Seems like an unpopular opinion, but it didn't work for me. It's sad when you are reading a murder mystery and don't care about the person who is being murdered or the killer or the investigation.

It started well. I really liked the childhood story of Cassidy. Actually I was fascinated by the blurb. A woman , a criminal psychologist, becomes the prime suspect of her husband's murder. And I loved the cover, even though I don't really like models on the book cover.

So basically, the wife is the only suspect (till a very long time) and the story is being told from her perspective as well, as she tries to prove herself innocent. After a point, I began to lose interest. The investigator is portrayed as a no nonsense person, who is only focused on his work, not intimidated by anyone. But this thing is mentioned or shown so often that he seems like a snob.

Also Cassidy 's profession, whether it's criminal psychologist or author, doesn't make any difference. She could have been anyone from the department.

And the usage of italics. It's so frequent and unnecessary that it was annoying. We understand the importance of certain words/sentences in certain situations. You don't have to emphasize every other sentence using the italics.

Sadly, I didn't want to know who killed the man or whether or not the wife was innocent.
