I've been a fan of Jennifer Perkins for I-don't-know how many years, and she never disappoints me. This book, with its themes of self-empowerment, self-care, and self-love, takes the reader on an inspirational tour through a plethora of different crafting techniques that are easily adaptable to suit the reader's preferences. Teen me would've had a lot of fun with this, and adult me is looking forward to having fun with this too. Each craft is explained in easy to understand language and accompanied by helpful photos, as well as tips on how to expand the technique you've just learned into other crafts, how to continue with the craft you've just made (example: once you've made the bleach un-dye t-shirt, you can then dye the bleached parts to add a burst of color and/or try a more advanced technique of fabric folding to create a different pattern), and more. There are a lot of craft supplies required, but I think most of them are inexpensive, easily available online if not locally, and/or could be substituted for similar materials. Do I want to try out every craft? Not necessarily, but I expect that from any craft book. I love that so many different crafting techniques are included, and that making each craft your own in different ways is encouraged. This is a good book for crafting newbies and more experienced crafters alike, as I believe everyone will find new ideas here. Recommended for many situations, both personal use and group activities - these crafts would be really fun for slumber party entertainment, for example.
I received a temporary digital copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
I really enjoyed looking at this book. The projects are very easy to understand. I will try some of this projects with the teen group that I am involved in.
This book has such fun crafting ideas! I definitely felt inspired after looking through the book! I immediately got out supplies to make the terrazzo crayon candle! My son and I had a great time working on that project. Each project has easy to follow instructions. The projects do require a lot of supplies, but a lot of them I already had at home. I also enjoyed the inclusion of the craft confidence sections. I think teens and adults alike will really enjoy crafting with ideas from this fun book!
I enjoyed the self affirmations this craft book provided. Super cute ideas for teens, and even small groups of teens to make. The intro of the book builds your self confidence up, and as a teen, you really need that. My only hold up is some of the items needed could be costly, but there are work arounds on how to obtain them by the author.
This was a cute book with a lot of fun projects! Some of the supplies might be hard for teens, who may not have easy access to a craft store, to find.
This is a fun crafting book for kids or teens, though there wasn’t really anything that teen me would have flipped for. Jennifer has a likable tone and there are lots of photos of the steps. There tends to be a fair amount of stuff to buy for each craft and I would like to see a bigger focus on sustainability. My favorite project was the felt potted plant but most of the rest didn’t appeal much to me. This would probably make a good library read for inspiration though.
I read a temporary digital loan of this book for review.
