It’s just a normal day for first grade teacher Amber Kellen, she’s getting her lesson plans together for the day when the principal comes into her classroom with bad news. One of her students, Mary Noel Simmons, has been in a tragic accident. She’s hurt and in the hospital, but her emotional state is actually much worse than her physical state. Mary Noel was hurt, but even worse for her was seeing her dog and best friend killed in the same accident. Amber knows that she must do something for the adorable little girl that she’s grown to love, so she comes up with a plan. She has the rest of her first grade class draw pictures for the little girl so that whenever Mary Noel does feel like opening her eyes and looking around she’s not looking at a plain boring hospital room. When Amber goes to the hospital to put her plan into action, she meets family friend and good looking bachelor Paul. Paul eventually shares the financial difficulties that Mary Noel’s parents are going to be facing for her hospital care and the two of them decide that they need to help, but just how? Pretty soon they come up with a great plan, one that includes the school and the entire community. But will Mary Noel wake up enough to be able to see it?
I really loved this short book! I loved Amber and Paul, both so willing to give whatever time or money they can come up with. I love the whole first grade class, who doesn’t love cute first graders! I love the community of Apple Blossom, how could I not when they were all so willing to go out of their way to help one little girl and her family. I love how as you’re reading the book, you can feel the small town, June McCrary Jacobs got that part just right. This story is so cute, it’s filled with the sweet romance of Paul and Amber as well as the community spirit and charity of those that are helping poor Mary Noel and her family. I didn’t want to put this one down!
