I really do like this book. Parts of it were hard because of triggers but it was very well written and I related to the characters in a very good way. An uplifting book about hard things.
A lovely wartime story with lovely characters. I found this interesting and very readable. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Kathy’s Courage by Carol MacLean is the 3rd book in a series, I haven’t read the other 2 but I found this easy to read without needing to read the others first, although I will now be reading them. A great book about a group of young girls who join the ATS during WW2. It follows them as they learn their new roles and the not always smooth roads of romance. A great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This series just gets better and better. I just loved being back in this world. I found the storyline very entertaining and I didn't want it to end. I'm already looking forward to reading the next book by Carol
Loved this book couldn’t put it down until it was finished, good characters and a brilliant storyline this author never fails to disappoint
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
When Kathy goes to get the shopping for her mother, at the butchers she hears some women talking about her, not wanting to listen to more, she buys what she needs and runs from the shop to get home, in her haste, she collides with Alisdair.
When this happens, Judith, who used to be her friend notices, and thinks to keep it to herself for the time being and let it be known to others when the time is right.
Her family are very close and care for each other, Mary, her mother looks out for Kathy, and won’t be happy of anyone who tries to hurt her.
Kathy makes a decision to leave home, along with the secret. She joins the Gunner girls.
Will the secret she’s hiding be revealed or can she keep it hidden?
I loved the characters, some not so much.
I recommend this book.
This story is a true masterpiece, from the very first word to the very end. It has the power to transport the reader to another time and place, immersing them in the sights, sounds, and emotions of the era. The author, Carol MacLean, has done a brilliant job of bringing to life the challenges and struggles of people during a time of great upheaval and change.
The main character, Kathy, and the secondary character Violet are fascinating and inspiring people. Despite having made a mistake in her past, Kathy is determined to do everything she can to help her family and her country during wartime. Her decision to join the Auxiliary Territorial Service is a testament to her strength and bravery, and it sets her on a path that will change her life forever.
As Kathy navigates the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated world, she forms deep and meaningful friendships with the other women in the service. Their camaraderie and support are inspiring, and it is heartwarming to read about the bonds they form in the face of adversity.
Overall, this book is an absolute gem. It is a vivid and unforgettable portrait of a time and place that is long gone but still has the power to captivate and inspire us.
War has cost her but courage can heal her heart.
WW2 Glasgow 1943.
Kiltie Street in the tenement, living with her family, Kathy's son Dennis is now been looked after by her mammy and step dad it's a kept secret and he will be known as her brother.
Kathy meets Alisdair Meikle an RAF airman and go to Maggie's Cafe and plan to meet the next day but he doesn't turn up, she is heartbroken and ends up joining the ATS that leads to harrowing times ahead for Kathy.
The details in this book are fascination to read right through from chapter to chapter, I loved it, like all the previously two books in this series
This author’s books have the ability to simultaneously make you unable to stop reading while wishing you could bury the book somewhere deep underground where it can't be found. Compelling and didn’t want it to end!
Great instalment from the Kiltie Street girls. Catching up with friends old and new.
This instalment features Kathy who is Jeannies sister from the first book. Kathy has a secret and she is escaping the street to make a fresh start in the ATS. But things have always a way of catching up. Kathy’s story is about growing up and friendships and relationships asked on the new her but how is she going to let them know of her past without changing their opinion of who she has become.
Well written and hoping there is more in this series .
A wonderful heart warming saga. With a lovely ending. Even though was set in a war it still had amazing characters
A nice, sweet story of a group of young women looking for love as ATA ack-ack girls during WWII with a happy ending all around.
This series just gets better with each book.
When Kathy Dougal joins the ATS Gunner girls she decides to leave some of her secrets at home, will they come back to haunt her!
On a visit to the local butcher, after listening to a couple of local gossips drag her reputation into the gutter, Kathy flees the shop only to go crashing into the dashing Alisdair Meikle who is bewitched by by Kathy’s glorious red hair. Unknown to Kathy, her one time friend Judith Lennox sees her and decides to use the information as a weapon at a later date.
Kathy comes from a very loving and close family, run by her mother Mary who has a heart of gold. Mary is very protective of Kathy and woe betide anyone who does anything to harm her.
There are some wonderful characters in this book, my favourite is Mary (reminded me of my Glasgow nanny)
Least favourite had to be Camilla
