To say I was kicking screaming giggling like a little girl while reading this book would be an understatement. It was very cute and super easy to read and kept you hooked!
I loved this read. This didn't feel so much like a typical romance (even though it was very much a romance), in that it had a great deal of trauma bonding and backstory that shaped the narratives of Rowan and Jack as individuals and how they grow through their lives to come together.
There were some plot twists that I didn't expect, which kept me engaged and excited throughout this whole novel. Sherry was wildly descriptive and I was able to imagine myself in this little neighborhood with such a fun cast of secondary characters.
Rowan Mackey is a high school English teacher, she's been dating a fellow teacher and head of the drama department for 7 months now. What she loves most about their relationship is that they are independently happy, she has her life and he has his. Due to her awful dating history, it's made her not like nor believe in romance of any kind. It's also left her thinking that her current boyfriend is probably the best option she'll ever have, even though they don't have much in common. While her boyfriend is away, she moves into a new house and all of the neighbors are lovely, except Jack Graham, playboy, romance writing author, and party boy. He's her next door neighbor. He makes it very clear that he doesn't want Rowan for a neighbor. They turn from neighbors to enemies when he drunkenly says something horrible about her face to his friends and she over hears it. So ensues the potential romance. It was very cute!
Thank you netgalley for this eARC!
This book turned out to be a deeply engaging exploration of love, uncertainty, and the decisions that shape our lives. The main character was portrayed with both humor and sincerity. I found myself empathizing with her dilemmas, cheering for her successes, and feeling her setbacks as if they were my own.
Afflicted with serious burns as a teenager, Rowan avoids attention as she gets too many unwanted stares already. So it's no surprise when her boyfriend's public proposal goes sideways. She decides to fix it by buying the perfect little house. The next door neighbour, Jack Graham, bestselling romance author and playboy, proves to be quite the troublemaker.
Jack didn't like Rowan at first but everyone else in the neighbourhood welcomed her with open arms. Moreso, her life intrigued him to a point of curing his writer's block. He still had to remind himself that she was off-limits even though her fiancé left for the summer needing some space.
I still love that he implored her not to settle for ordinary just because her scars and past experiences made her believe she didn't deserve better.
Rowan was an awesome teacher and aspiring foster parent. I loved how creative she was with her classes and how willing she was to take on the mountain that was fostering.
The neighbours were an interesting bunch that never hesitated to help or converge for an impromptu soirée.
I love that even though it was a rollercoaster and colossal mistakes were made, a beautiful ending came about for everyone.
Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of this book hooked me initially. It was an easy and fun read despite feeling a little dragged out and long at times. I feel like this book is an ode to teachers and the love of books. As a former teacher myself, I loved the spotlight given to teachers who go the extra mile and truly have a passion for the profession and the impact they have on their student’s lives. The nods and references to so many wonderful pieces of literature was one of my favorite parts too. Jacks tattoos were nerdy and fun. I loved all the eclectic characters throughout the book. If you enjoy the idea of a found family and finding love next door, you will enjoy this book. There were some heavy topics like grief, domestic violence, childhood trauma peppered throughout the book. However the love story between Rowan and Jack was the glue to hold the whole story together. This book was also low on spice, so if that’s not your thing, definitely give this one a whirl. Although, I can’t say I loved this book, I did still enjoy it and found myself highlighting some profound points that really resonated with me.
I love the connection between Rowan and her love for books and reading. Then she meets her Neighbor author Jack. I love the grumpy sunshine relationship vibes between the two. It was cute.
Another amazing book by Jessica Sherry!! I loved the character, loved the writing, loved the storyline!
I loved the tension in this book and enjoyed the enemies to lovers storyline. However, at times the plot lost steam to me and made me lose interest. The foster student plot line was very random to me. LOVED the neighbor characters.
This was a cute and quick rom com with great chemistry. A nice theme with some good characters and dialogue.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Absolutely Loved!! Rom-com at it's best!
Rowan Mackey is a high school English teacher, she's been dating a fellow teacher and head of the drama department for 7 months now. What she loves most about their relationship is that they are independently happy, she has her life and he has his. He loves being the center of attention, whereas she avoids it at all costs.
Due to a traumatic event that happened when she was only 15 years old, the left side of her face from her ear to her chin all the way down to her chest is scarred with burn marks. Even one hand is scarred. It has made her life difficult when it comes to dating. Due to her awful dating history, it's made her not like nor believe in romance of any kind. It's also left her thinking that her current boyfriend is probably the best option she'll ever have, even though they don't have much in common. That their "independent together" arrangement is the only thing she's worthy of and is her best hope for a family with him by her side. She loves to read, he hates it. He also refuses to touch her scars ever, pretending that they don't exist. So after the annual school play which has attracted local news stations, Dean decided to propose to her in front of everyone on stage. Rowan was in such a state of shock and mortified about the attention put on her, that she said Yes. No. Maybe. In front of everyone. When she realized she hurt his feelings, she called out a fake and cheery-Yes! They had never even talked about marriage, yet he wanted to make their proposal a spectacle?
Being it was the end of the school year, Dean decided to go on an acting trip with some guys rather than discuss things with her. He's a runner when it comes to talking about things. So Rowan went ahead and moved into her new home that she just bought; without his knowledge. That night instead of going home, Rowan decides to go see her new home instead. That's when she gets a visit from the neighborhood watch making sure no one was breaking and entering.
All of the neighbors are lovely, except Jack Graham, playboy, romance writing author, and party boy. He's her next door neighbor. He makes it very clear that he doesn't want Rowan for a neighbor. But once she moved in, his year long writer's block stopped. She became his muse.
They turn from neighbors to enemies when he drunkenly says something horrible about her face to his friends and she over hears it. When she repeats it verbatim a few days later when he comes to see her about something, it hurt him that she heard. He had no idea how much that destroyed her. But as always, she had a facade up and nothing can crack that shield.
Jack knows how badly he messed up. He has no problem with her scars, he thinks she's beautiful. But he knows that she doesn't see herself that way at all. His remarks only make him feel ashamed of himself. No apology is going to fix this.
When Jack realizes over time that he's slowly falling in love with Rowan, she freaks out. She knows Dean's ghosting her and hanging out with other woman trying to make her jealous. But can she give up her safe future for some fun with Jack? She knows that she's not his type, it's just a matter of when he gets bored and moves on to the next woman.
She's never been the girl that a guy chases; and she never will be.
Will Rowan open up her eyes and see the truth in front of her?
A must read!!
The way this book captivated me from moment #1, I knew I was a goner for it.
It was so charming, loveable, and smile-inducing, that I could barely put the book down and was devastated when it was done.
This book is perfect if you love a grumpy hero and a damaged female. It is fantastic and am soooo thankful that I was approved for this ARC. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
This book was absolutely fabulous! Loved it so much!
The characters and their battles were relatable and it was just such a sweet romance 💕
It did remind me of how life’s important moments and decisions should be definite yes’ or then they aren’t most likely what you want. Even with smaller decisions it often is so, how many times have you not bought a shirt thinking “its ok, maybe I can make it work?” Only to come home and see it in the closet a year later, tags still on. To me it has happened more times I can say!

Jessica Sherry’s “Yes No Maybe” is a delightful romantic comedy. The story brings the reader into the world of Rowan Mackey and Jack Graham.
Rowan is a high school teacher and Jack is a bestselling romance writer. They become neighbors when Rowan purchases a little house next door to where Jack lives. There were parts of the storyline that I felt were a bit uneven, at times, but the author would course correct. There was a place towards the end where I almost thought the book was done because of how things had seemingly wrapped up. When I realized that wasn’t the case, I even wondered “what else is left to cover?” Thankfully, the author still had a couple more chapters left for me to enjoy, including an epilogue.
Overall, I recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.
Afflicted with burns as a teenager, teacher Rowan Mackey has not found dating the easiest. When her boyfriend proposes to her in front of a large audience, her immediate response is ‘yes, no, maybe’, which does not go well. Longing for a safe, quiet life with Dean and believing his “independent together” arrangement is her best hope for companionship and a family, Rowan buys the perfect little house to fix things. Rowan finds herself sharing a property line with Jack Graham, a bestselling romance writer whose partying lifestyle makes him her next-door nemesis. Whilst Jack makes it clear that he doesn’t want a new neighbour, he finds his clashes with Rowan end his year-long writer’s block. As they spend time together, they find a connection which might be worth pursuing.
A slow burn romance between two very great characters. I so enjoyed seeing how their relationship grew the more time they spent together. Whilst Jack appeared at first to be so different from Rowan, together they brought out the best in each other.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I can always count on this author to give a heart felt story full of passion and emotion. This is a book has it all! Small town vibes, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine and found family. I’m not sure how she keeps doing it but her books are always a 5 star read for me. Loved it!
My measure for a good book is one that keeps me up to finish reading it. Yes No Maybe was definitely one of those books. After Rowan doesn't effusively say yes to a public marriage proposal (that she doesn't want and anyone who knows her should know that she wouldn't want one), she buys the house of her dreams while her boyfriend/would-be fiancé runs off for the summer. Her neighbors' lives are all intertwined and they look out for each other in a charming way.
Rowan's facial scars are part of the story and there are varying levels of reaction to them. You see a lot of Rowan's resilience throughout her story and you also see some room for growth.
Overall, I found it to be a lovely story with deep and tense moments without being too dramatic.
Laser focused and engaged English teacher meets grumpy, blocked writer playboy and sparks fly in Jessica Sherry's YES NO MAYBE. While I knew where this rom com was headed, I didn't know how fun and engaging it would be to ride with Rowan and Jack as they realize maybe there is more to them than a boundary line between their houses. I admired the pluck and practicality of Rowan and her small cottage intended to be shared with her fiancé Dean and her books. I also felt for Jack, the blocked writer who reluctantly comes to realize that Rowan is the muse to solve his long-stalled work. So, yes, I knew where the story was heading, but I loved the ride. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.
*3.5-ish stars*
There were some things I really and truly adored about this novel. Rowan is a phenomenal female main character. She is a testament to the fact that even the people that have built up the strongest mental walls have those walls cracked open sometimes. Seeing Rowan battle her inner thoughts and struggles was so heartbreaking. Jack, on the other hand, was a complete flop for me. I think what turned me off to the entire book and had me so frustrated through the entire thing was the whole elementary miscommunication, tit-for-tat trope. I was so frustrated.
I did adore the book references. Oh my goodness how I loved the little house, the books, how cozy the novel elements were. I loved the neighborhood, the found family. There were pros and cons, and it was an overall good book. If you're looking for a good romance with a great element for found family, an AMAZING cozy vibe, a great strong badass female main character this is a really good read.
Yes No Maybe by Jessica Sherry is a very cute story with lovable characters!
This romance had me losing sleep. I couldn’t stop once I started.
I loved Rowan and Jack! They are both such relatable characters!
One thing I really did enjoy was the message this story delivers. Simply put it was amazing.
Thank You NetGalley and Jessica Sherry for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
