I needed this book after the first two, to see the FMC Morgan finally come into her own self, to see her strengths… and to finally take her powers and use them!
The MMC Kairos Draven is a dream and of course he would burn the world for her! I do wish there was a bit more emotion in writing from his POV.
The plot twists with her siblings/family were great, I did not see that coming…. Still some questions that have not been answered… I am on the edge of my seat and cannot wait to read book 4!
Book: Empress of Fae
Author: Briar Boleyn
Series: Blood of Fae, Book #3
Publisher: Starwater Press
Length: 407 Pages
Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars
Blog Rating: 5/5 Saltire Flags
This book centers around Morgan Pendragon known as Morgan Le Fay. It is also born to power in endless nights to cast down realms, a dark birthrights for both fae and mortals, their thrones shall swirl, in the child’s hands, lies the end of the world and existence! I suggest reading in book order or I think it might be confusing to readers if read as a stand alone book.
If you love stories of Merlin and King Author’s Camelot readers will definitely love this book. I see similarities between Briar Boleyn and Sarah J. Maas writing styles but the stories are completely different.I absolutely love books about fae and mortals. As Romantasy is a genre I absolutely love and Boleyn again pens another spellbinding book I could not put down.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy and an advance reader from the publisher. I voluntarily agreed to do a fair review and blog through netgalley. All thoughts, ideas and words are my own.
Thank you to Briar Boleyn, Starwater Press, NetGalley for the ebook to celebrate the release of the fourth and final book in the series. Things I have liked in all three books so far:
*multiple points of view
*new characters in each book
*new side stories in each book
*surprises I didn't see coming
I wish there was more development in the transition between books 2 and 3. I felt like Morgan just got mad and made a rash decision. I know more of that was flushed out in the middle of book 3 but I just had this weird feeling between the two books. I am used to how hot and cold Morgan is but I was totally confused by her anger and decision to leave and destroy the arc.

This book was so so so good! Paced really well and I love these characters. Can’t wait for the next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Starwater Press for the ARC
Things are heating up in this third instalment of the series. The stakes are higher and everything is more engrossing and exciting. I throughly enjoyed my time reading this and I can't wait for the next book
This series is phenomenal! I literally tell everyone about it. This book has the worst villain/goon. Morgan and Draven were apart for most of the book, but Boleyn makes it work with a little magic. There's some very well written spice. There are new side characters and old friends. There's a big twist towards the end. I left this book both feeling satisfied and eager for the next book. ARC provided by Starwater Press and NetGalley- thank you!!
I've been devouring this books like chocolate to be honest.. They are just the type of fantasy I like.. I'm beyond words
I am so happy that NetGalley gave me this series. I adore Briar Boleyn's style of writing. These books captivate me until the very last page. The imagination in sequences in the last book and this one in particular is so impressive. I can visualize the scenes and the world. Another aspect that I love about this series is the detail and development also involving the supporting characters. This makes a huge difference to the story, and elevates the writing. The spice I'd say is about a 3 on the spice scale. The throne room had me! Can't wait to see what happens next, but also sad to be finishing this series in the next book!
I could just copy and paste in Here what I wrote about book 1 and 2!
Oh Boy, it was amazing...again!
I could not put it down. Every chance I got, I kept reading. I loved the POV's, the fae, the spice. Just about everything about this book. Even If I repeat myself, but If you loved ACOTAR or Fourth Wing, please do me the davor and read these books.
The second I finished the third book I started with the fourth and I know that it will be just as awesome!
This is a turning out to be a fun popcorn read! I will be continuing when book 4 releases on audio. I do wish the names were based off of King Arthur but otherwise it’s a fun time.
Thank you to NetGalley, Starwater Press, and Briar Boleyn for a free ecopy of this book!
This is the third book in Blood of a Fae. It wraps up one main story line very, very nicely and the ending sets us up for the fourth book.
I personally HATE when the two main characters are separated for too long so I was upset during some of this book but THAT ENDING?! The ending made up for all my suffering. I stayed up until 1am reading this because the last 20% had me in chokehold!
I really enjoyed the different POVs in this book and both Morgan and Draven both really made up for their actions in the last book. I'll definitely be reading book 4 soon!

Thank you, NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.
“There are no limits to my love for you, Morgan. When Myntra and Eskira and every place in Aercanum have crumbled into oblivion and the universe itself dissolves into nothing, my heart will still beat for you.”
Morgan is back in Camelot, in the Rose Court, worried for the safety of her friends and family, wanting to make sure they're alright. And Draven, he's back in the Court of Umbral Flames. Where Morgan left him!! LEFT HIM!! It doesn't take long for Morgan to realise she made a mistake and she wants her mate back. And Draven? He'll move heaven and earth for his true love.
There is so much progression in this book, so much happening, and I was waiting for the twist and turns, waiting to discover who would betray them all. The development of Morgan's power and the control she wielded over them improves even more, and just in the nick of time. No longer the meek, submissive woman she was in the first book. I really enjoyed this!
“I'd rather be a villain by your side than play the hero for anyone else."
Ok. This one got me. This was a really great book. Loved the character and plot development. The world building is really evening out. This is a very cool series and I can’t wait to finish off the last one. Thank you for this ARC opportunity!
The third book in the series provides additional background on the FMC and on the lore. There are quite a few quotable, romantic moments that hopeless romantics will swoon for. Exciting and tense action for those wanting a bit more. The ending promises an exciting fourth book to come.
What a fun 3rd installment to the Blood of Fae series!
First thing I want to say is that I truly enjoyed the plot of this book. The author isn't afraid to kill off characters that you're fond of. There are twists and turns; while I saw most coming, this didn't upset me. Part of the fun of being a reader is that you get to look at things with a critical lens.
Overall, this just fell a little short for me. The beginning I was excited because we were getting multiple POVs. But then it just wasn't utilized properly. It still was primarily Morgan. There was a lot of missed potential with that alone.
Another thing that annoyed me is that we started this book with Morgan and Draven at odds with each other. The mending of that relationship was done quick and it lacked depth. They also were apart the whole book. I would have liked them to reunite sooner.
We spent so much time in book two learned and loving Rychel. Then she is practically nonexistent in this novel.
I look forward to reading the final book! There was a lot of change and development that occurred at the end of the novel and I am excited to see how it all plays out.
*This book was gifted by the netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!*
❃ SPOILER ALERT ❃
Briar Boleyn is a magician with writing. the feelings she conveys with words is something else. Read this series ASAP.
This had me stressed man so incredibly stressed. I love Morgan but girl gave me grey hairs with her just waddling into danger left and right. I was reading through gaps in my fingers just waiting for Draven to come save this girl.
Let’s get to Shelby’s thought bullets through this book shall we.
*I was so mad at Lancet to begin with. Like I get she went through something traumatic but she didn’t even try to talk to Morgan. Just assumed what happened and ran with it.
*Merlin for sure scared me. Had me second guessing her and thinking she was the traitor. Sneaky sneaky amazing selfless lady.
*I adore Orcades. I love this new found sister bond and relationship that her and Morgan have cultivated. It’s so sweet to see them grow closer.
*Orcades had me sweating for a minute. I was worried she was going to hurt that unborn baby with a ritual 😳 plot twist NOPPPPE IT WAS ARTHUR THAT WAS GONNA.
*how dare they hurt precious baby Kaye 😭sweet angel baby boy Kaye
*THE WAY I SOBBED WHEN THEY FOUND ORCADES AND MEDRA. Actual sob.
*Auntie Morgan and Uncle Draven to the rescue. 🩷 melted watching Protective Draven come out holding onto that little angel. 👼
*DEATH TO ARTHUR YESSSSSS 👏🏻🙌🏻
🎉🥳🎊🍾PREPARE THE PARADE.
*I Hope Draven and Morgan can run away to a Cabin somewhere, someday. Living happy with eachother and Kaye and Medra.

‼️this being a review for book three, there are unavoidable spoilers for the previous books ahead‼️
Empress of Fae picks up after the heart wrenching cliffhanger Court of Claws threw at us. I’ve loved how each book spins you into a new direction! It’s kept the pace quick and me at the edge of my seat!
Morgan feels betrayed and heartbroken over the secrets from Draven and the power he’s thrust upon her. Now oceans apart, Morgan does what she can for her war torn land and to save the brother she loves.
Draven is left behind devastated. Yet he proves he will always fight for Morgan, and shows up in a big way. I love how their relationship evolves from continents away, and how Morgan comes into her own as she fights for a better future.
This story was dark while Camelot fights for its very survival, but shows that not all is lost while there’s hope.
Blood of a Fae #2 by Briar Boleyn (ARC from NetGalley)
An explosion of danger, powerful magic, lust, and a brutal game that will test the relationships of the people Morgan has grown to care for in this cutthroat realm.
Court of Claws is the second book in this epic dark fantasy romance series about Morgan Le Fay, King Arthur's sister. She escaped his cruel reign, but is the court she unwillingly thrown into any better? It's an enemies-to-lovers series that features unique magic systems, glorious magical creatures, witty banter, and spicy scenes emerging after a slow-burn romance from book one.
Morgan Pendragon wakes in the dangerous court of the Siabra. The fae male who followed and clung to her in the town tavern wasn't all that he seemed. She was falling in love with him until he betrayed her and is now dead by her hand. Draven is famous for being a notorious killer but continuously protects her making her rethink what she thought she knew of him. Whenever she was put in danger, Draven was at her side, but can he still protect her in his courts?
She is now surrounded by danger and liars with some in his court and could be killed at any moment. This is extremely similar to her previous life but . Feeling trapped against her will, Morgan wants to run back to Camelot to stop her evil half brother King Arthur, and keep her baby brother safe but cannot leave the place she was taken. Prince Kairos Draven is determined to keep her by his side to keep her safe and her as his own. He believes he can do this because he is the crown prince and the people in his kingdom should obey his commands. The issue is he was banished for things he did in his past and the fae in this court are less than thrilled to have Morgan in their realm and involved with their prince. He told everyone that Morgan was his paramour (aka lover, mistress, whore) to keep her safe, but his word may not deter others who are bloodthirsty for the crown that is Dravin's right as the heir.
As Morgan and Draven's lives become even more irrevocably entwined, the danger that Draven has to endure with the trials to win the crown may be the end of them both. It is dangerous, and little does Morgan know the reality of her relationship with Draven could drive them apart. She is afraid of her powers and he wants her to train so she can control it better. If she cannot do that, she can potentially hurt innocent people. The Prince of Claws will drown kingdoms in blood for her and his own sake. All they need to do is keep each other alive.
The first book slowly introduces this world and sets up this story to continue Morgan and Draven's journey. It has more action, enemies to lovers, dangerous situations, fantastic magical beasts, and steps up the story. I enjoyed this book infinitely more than the first and found it hard to put down.
Thank you NetGalley and StarWater Press for the opportunity to ARC read this book
I finally realized what this series reminds me of. This book especially reminds me of JLA’s Kingdom of Flesh and Fire in her Blood and Ash Series. Draven being the lost prince and Morgan being the lost empress now that she has gone through the portal to save her little brother and kingdom from her brother’s rule.
As Draven crosses the sea to reunite with Morgan after she used an altar to transport herself back to her kingdom to save her people from her brother’s rule, she is discovering things she never knew about her mother and her pedigree to the throne.
The dreams we get to experience with Draven and Morgan are so perfect. I feel as though without them this book would have dragged and not been as captivating. The chemistry between those two is one of my favorites that I’ve read.
A daughter of a king will be the downfall of kings. A force traveling across the sea will bring a new war to win.
Thanks Netgalley for this book!
I am SO invested in this series. Every step of the way there’s a plot twist, revelation or some other thing that I was completely not expecting- because of this, I have become completely sucked into this series!
This book follows Morgan through as she learns more about who she is, and what she stands for. You get to learn even more about her ‘family’ and her blood relations, as well as more about her magic itself.
There are definitely some satisfying as heck moments in the book where some people get what they deserve (suck it, F), but also some more sad moments where you lose some good ones.
This book also definitely kept to its work of ‘dark’ romantasy- make sure to check triggers if you have any! There has been some moments where I’ve had to stop and be like- wtf just happened!?
Overall, I am LOVING this series. I will hopefully be purchasing paper copies to add to my shelves in the future!
P.S Briar pls stop killing off good characters, my heart can only take so much (rip my fav person in Siabra 🥲)
