The second novel in a five-novel series based in King Arthur’s court but expands into other beautiful and terrifying lands. This spicy romance is set within an action-packed story with Fae and other creatures. The plot contains surprises that bring readers to the edge of wanting never to stop reading. This is the perfect book for fans looking to start a new series with creative world building, a slow-burn love story, and beautiful and enticing characters. Highly recommended!
Court of Claws is just as good, if not better, than the first installment of the series. I loved the new location that was introduced and I hope that book 3 takes us elsewhere in the fantastical world that Briar Boleyn has expertly crafted.
My only gripe with the main character is how she only tends to voice her opinion, but never actually ends up going against Kairos’s orders. I wish her dominance in the fighting sphere carried over to her relationships with other characters as well. Sometimes this made it really frustrating to read certain scenes.
I enjoyed the battle for the throne as it was reminiscent of the hunger games, a series I really recommend. The ending had both happy and sad elements which balanced out well and made for a solid conclusion.
I will definitely be continuing with this series. I rated this book a 4 star.
Man, if you thought book 1 was a banger then buckle up for book 2 because it exceeded my expectations.
After Morgan and Kairos’ unsuccessful quest to retrieve Excalibur we head back to the place Kairos used to call home and he has a plan. He and Morgan enter this fake dating(ish) situation while he competes in trials to win his rights to the throne back. And man is it entertaining from start to finish.
We get deadly games, I hate him (but not really) vibes, found family, witty banter, a generous amount of tension (and even a bit of well written spice), a bit of a plots twist, and a reappearance from one of the side characters 👀
I cannot wait to see what book 3 gives us especially with all of the problems happening back in Camelot!
Some of my favorite quotes:
Kairos - “You have the most beautiful laugh, you know. You rarely use it, but when you do...” “It shakes the world. My entire world.” 🥺
Kairos - “Not yet,” Draven murmured, the words gentle and lazy. “Not yet. Be a good girl and wait.” 🥵
Rychel - “Here's to the fae and mortals alike, united by starlit dreams that span the skies. Gazes ablaze with stardust, their dreams become tapestries of hope as they envision guardians of realms and leaders of empires who are truly worthy. May their dreams find refuge.” ❤️
I am in love with this series and thoroughly invested in the characters. This second book took me on even more of a Rollercoaster ride of emotions from sadness, tense, happy, mad...
I'm so glad Morgan is finding out more about herself but the truth revealed by Draven... I can't wait to dive into the third book to continue the story and see what happens with that "relationship" and to see what battles rage and are won/lost.
The plot thickens!
Court of Claws by Briar Bolelyn is the second book in the high fantasy series Blood Of A Fae series, and it did not disappoint. Morgan learns more about the mysterious companion she traveled with, Fae legacies and courts, and curses. This book emphasizes trust, love, and choice, which lends itself to a deeper understanding of feminine power. I enjoyed Draven's surprises and Morgan's continued journey towards her fate.
There were times when I was a smidge annoyed about Morgan's lack of awareness of her privilege, but this is a setup for more growth in the third book (at least, I hope). Overall, I enjoyed the action and romantic moments sprinkled throughout. Court of Claws sets us closer to the inevitable clash between Morgan and Arthur, and I am here for it.
I hope Nightclaw returns in book three.
Thank you to NetGalley, Briar Boleyn, and the publisher Starwater Press for the opportunity to read this ARC and give my opinion as a fantasy enthusiast.
So I had very mixed feeling about this book. But this book was still very good. It’s just the main female character, Morgan can be so damn annoying!! Her going back and forth with how she feels about the male main character Draven. Either you’re going to trust him or not. Either you want to be with him or not. It’s like she doesn’t understand what’s going on or that he really does care about her and does everything in his power to protect her. As for Draven he is just stupid. He knows the girl has trust issues but yet he hides things until the last minute and she’s blindsided. He should know better by now. This book had me yelling and screaming from beginning to end. And that ending battle result had me in tears. I’ll never forgive the author for that dammit. Nevertheless I can’t wait to read the next book. I still love this series despite how annoying I find the Morgan
WOW! this is book 2 in the Camelot retelling and so many plot twists.
While described as a dark romance fantasy it was not what I was expecting but I had read reviews so knew it was a slooooow burn and their are darker elements but nothing too heavy just yet. Saying that I would advise reading the triggers first as some heavier things could be triggering to some.
Now.. Morgan is really growing on me. At first I thought, oh no, here is a " not like other girls" plot but no, she was learning to be kick ass from the beginning but just didn't know it!
I adore Lancelot her bestie female knight, and Ghalad her other bestie. The dynamics between them are super cute. In this book she has been through a lot already but I have a feeling a lot more is to come.
I thought I enjoyed book 1, but boy did I enjoy book 2 just as much - this is a rare thing for me.
diving straight into book 3
Thank you Netgalley for providing "The Blood of Fae set". Court of Claws continues the story from where Queen of Roses ended. Draven's timely rescue of Morgan, with the help of the mysterious Oldena, reveals surprising truths, including Oldena's true nature, which challenges initial assumptions.
This latest installment in the series is full of unexpected twists, maintaining a fast-paced narrative with shocking revelations that keep coming until the very end.
The depth and complexity of Morgan and Draven's journey, set against a vividly depicted backdrop, has captivated me and left me eagerly awaiting the next chapter in their saga. Briar Boleyn's storytelling talent has established her as an author whose works I will eagerly consume.
For fans of fantasy romance with detailed world-building, this series is a must-read, deserving the highest praise. It's an extraordinary adventure that should not be overlooked!
That ending thouuuuu!!! We start where we left off on book 1 and the action never stops. Plus we finally get rid of that sllllow burn! Prince of claws. I approve your decision.
Bound to a man she hates more than she ever thought possible...
Briar Boleyn ups the ante in this second instalment of the Blood of the Fae series. I honestly struggled to come up for breath here! She takes us on a roller-coaster of a ride with dangerous caverns, king trials, and mysterious origins. She also toys with our emotions, as Draven becomes lovable only to act despicably, and so on and so forth. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Starwater press for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Starwater Press and NetGalley for this ARC.
This book 2 in the four part Blood of a Fae set, so this review is only relevant if you have read book 1...(Spoilers ahead if you haven't read book 1 and please check trigger warnings on the entire series)
We follow the story of Morgan in the Court of Claws who in a forced marriage....her ever is no more and she has to navigate what can only be described as a hostile situation in a land she's stuck in with Draven...whom she hates.
Briar Boleyn writes with such beauty, and builds this world that you just get immersed in. I was so vested in this story , that I ended up staying up till really late, so that I could finish this book. And of course I had to then read books 3 and 4. I can hand on heart say that I have never felt so strongly about characters since ACOTAR, and the Empyrean series.
Briar Boleyn is a true genius and I cannot rate these books highly enough.
After being a massive fan of book, it didn't surprise me that I am obsessed with this one!
The series got even better and not a touch more boring. You will love our morally grey mc and the slow burn in these is to die for. The characters are just as amazing as in book one and the tension in the story doesn't get lost, which is a very important factor for me when it comes to series.
Big thanks to NetGalley for access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
Court of Claws is the second book in the Blood of a Fae series and picks up right where we left off after the first book, with Morgan in a new land and dealing with a new set of problems.
We finally get to see the romance we had been waiting for after such a disappointment in the first book. It is definitely a slow burn but when we finally get there it was written with just enough detail to be spicy without going over the top.
The world building continues to be impressive, the author does a really good job of creating a picture in the reader's mind. Where the first book contained a quest for a powerful item, this one has the trials to be completed for power and that is one of my favorite tropes.
I did enjoy this book however the story was a little slower than the previous book. I also was not a fan of the repetitive miscommunication and back and forth mentality of Morgan. She seemed so much stronger and sure of herself in the first book when she was training to be a knight, and here she plays the endless victim. I'm hoping as the series continues we see more of the force to be reckoned with.
This one was a little more dragged out than the first. I like the characters overall but I got kind of bored
Overall book: 5/5 ⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
First, I want to thank NetGalley and Starwater Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I ATE this book UP!!! It’s as if ACOTAR meets the Hunger Games but with spice 🌶️ I absolutely loved this book and the character development is amazing. The plot thickens. The twists are everything. I can’t wait to continue the story in the 3rd book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this ebook. After reading the first book in the series, I was eager to continue reading to find out what happened next in Morgan's story! This book did not disappoint and was a quick and exciting read from start to finish. This book is great for fans of ACOTAR and Fourth Wing!
Thank you for letting me read this book! I absolutely loved it, you’ve done it once again! It is very well written and had me hooked from the start!
In this book, there is more of a focus on the dynamics between characters and the development of those relationships. Especially between Draven and Morgan, of course!
Every now and then I would find Morgan a tad annoying, but I still love how she is so incredibly her own person as much as she can be. And I do really appreciate the development of Draven’s character from book one to book two. I feel like he’s matured quite a lot and just become more three-dimensional.
But in this book we move away from the land that we learned about in the first book, now we’re somewhere else. I do wish that there was some more world building for this new world, we got more relationship building and character insight in this book, but not as much as I would’ve liked for this new location.
This book also has trials! And who doesn’t love a good trial. And boy, oh boy, the plot twists and reveals!
I did find that this book dragged at the beginning a bit. But then once it picks up, it picks up! That sort of pacing felt very similar to the first book, which I just thought as the drag of fantasy world building.
And we end off with a cliff hanger! So, of course, that means I shall be picking up the next book. Because I need answers.
Thanks to NetGalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my review on TikTok will be up with my monthly wrap-up at the end of May.
Thank you Netgalley for the "The Blood of Fae set".
Court of Claws seamlessly continues the narrative from where Queen of Roses left off. Draven's timely rescue of Morgan, aided by the enigmatic Oldena, unveils unexpected truths, including Oldena's true nature, which defies initial assumptions.
This installment of the series proves to be a whirlwind of surprises, maintaining an exhilarating pace with shocking revelations unfolding until the very conclusion. Just when the revelation of Draven's fae lineage with distinctive horns seemed to mark the pinnacle of unexpected twists, the narrative continues to deliver one gripping surprise after another, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
Briar Boleyn masterfully crafts a complex and captivating world, enriched by the evolving dynamic between Morgan and Draven, pulsating with unspoken desires and undeniable chemistry. The intense competition for the imperial throne, reminiscent of the lethal stakes of the Hunger Games, adds a thrilling layer of tension, where survival hangs in the balance with only one emerging victor.
The passion and intricacy of Morgan and Draven's journey, set against this vividly realized backdrop, has left me utterly enthralled and eagerly anticipating the next chapter in their saga. Briar Boleyn's storytelling prowess has solidified her status as an author whose works I will eagerly devour without hesitation. For enthusiasts of fantasy romance intertwined with intricate world-building, this series is an absolute must-read, deserving the highest recommendation. It's an extraordinary adventure that simply cannot be missed.
