As a self-proclaimed bookworm, I obviously had to check this out. I'm obsessed with seeing people's bookshelves and I just loved flipping through this book. The overall design of the book is beautiful and I already want to reorganize and style my own bookshelf again! I definitely recommend this book for book lovers, interior designers, and anyone else who enjoys looking at aesthetic bookshelves!

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Not quite what I was expecting. It's not a tour of various people's bookshelves, but styled examples with tips to style your own. Many of the books even repeated from setting to setting, which didn't help the disappointing staged effect. Still some cool and pretty style ideas though.

I found this book very informative and interesting. The photos were very helpful and gave me some great ideas on how to display my books in an aesthetically pleasing way. I would definitely recommend this book for people who are interested in displaying their books or redecorating a room!

So much inspiration and love of the physical book, and not just for reading. Would make any bibliophile want to go out and buy more books to redecorate their house. Then read more. Lovely photos and great book suggestions. It would be a nice addition to any library public or personal.

Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the arc of "Book Nooks" by Vanessa Dina and Claire Gilhuly.

Lovely pictures with inspiring text. I tried a few of these suggestions in my home and they looked great.

A beautiful book with room by room book books! Also some curated book lists by notable authors. Very well done...I'm inspired to recreate some of these in my home.

A visually pleasing book perfect for display. The homes and book nooks pictured are very diverse in style, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing, and each section featured a famous author's reading list on a given topic (i.e. cookbooks, mystery novels), which was truly interesting! Some of the recommendations for books felt a bit bizarre, such as organizing books in a nook in a zig-zag pattern with the pages facing out, rather than the spines? The author noted that this wouldn't work for books that you want to access frequently, but at least for me reading frequently is the only reason I would buy a physical copy, so it didn't seem quite practical! Additionally, I felt that the book lacked a section for more minimalist collections/displays--the categories and photographs often focused on very maximalist, object-heavy displays. This book is great for the book-lover-slash-interior-design-aficianado!

What can I say? It's a book about books and spaces to read books! Lots of inspiring ideas to turn just about any space into a cozy book nook and really nice pictures. I definitely reccommend it to anyone into interior decorating or anyone who's just looking to transform a space in the name of books.

In a nutshell, this book is not what I expected. I expected a book about nooks for readers. Instead, it’s more about nooks for books. Ok, I could adjust my expectations. After all, I’m a reader and I have a lot of books so Book Nooks could still be interesting and inspirational.

However, no matter how hard I tried to adjust those expectations, I was still disappointed. I expected the photographs to be stunning but most are just average. Furthermore, there seems to be quite a bit of repetition in the photographs and how the books are displayed. After all, a shelf is a shelf is a shelf. In one case, it would appear the self-care space and the baby space use the same book case, just different colors. I would have expected something a little more original.

In quite a few instances books are simply placed on book shelves, tossed on random flat surfaces, or stacked on the floor – and many in inappropriate places (Seriously? The bathroom?). And, maybe someday I’ll understand why anyone (maybe someone who isn’t really a reader?) would want to shelve their books so the spines face inward or cram books into the opening of an unused fireplace. Needless to say, I found very little inspiration or appeal.

For me, the most imaginative part of the book are the photos of the various Little Free Libraries. Meanwhile, there are random book lists from various authors, such as Julianna McIntosh”s Go To Cocktail Books. I found this to be distracting and not a valuable addition to Book Nooks.

Maybe this book deserves three stars for effort but I can’t give it more than two stars. NetGalley provided an advance copy.

I love the pictures and the ideas are super creative, but I don't know how practical most of these would be. I don't think I would ever organize my books like this, but it was so much fun to read and see the ideas.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this book.

There was a lot more text than photographs which I wasn’t anticipating. If anything, this was more of a how-to interior design guide.

I do like the recommended reading list, but not every chapter has a list.

I don’t understand why the Colorful and Neutral chapters weren’t at the beginning. It broke up the flow.

I picked up this book with a different kind of book nook in mind (the kind you build and slide onto your bookshelf as decoration), having just built a coworker a book nook and eager for more ideas. Imagine my surprise when this was a book about how to decorate/theme ones reading space. 😂

Despite my surprise I found this book enjoyable, however certain ideas didn’t feel all that practical (such as stacking books on a staircase or stacking thick books and turning them into a stool). Nevertheless some nooks were very inspiring, I found the Narnia book nook to be particularly fun, and I enjoyed the book recommendations from various authors scattered throughout. All in all a surprise but a delight!

I have a growing book collection and a new home, so I was excited to review this book! It was a great concept to add the favorite books of different people in the literary world. There was a list of recommended "Banned books," which I thought was ridiculous. If a book is banned, why is it available to purchase, I think only age appropriate books belong in school libraries, just my opinion. This type of virtue signaling definitely turns me off. Also the interior design displayed is not what I like at all. The design is only modern, and seems pretentious. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The photos and book arrangements are gorgeous but mainly based on spine color; not how I usually organize my books. Loved the suggestions for younger readers since they're often overlooked. I absolutely adored the wardrobe turned into a reading nook. On the whole, very inspiring.

This book is a great coffee table book for bibliophiles! There is lots of inspiration for all types of personalities. There are ideas for color coded and subject-aligned; Stacks vs. shelves; and different rooms. Whether you are looking for inspiration for a design or daydreaming for the future you will love flipping through the pages and pages of beautiful photography. There is even inspiration for Little Free Libraries!
Also paired with the design inspirations are book recommendations from authors, advocates and others in the book universe. Special shoutout to fellow Bookstagrammer and author of Diverse Spines, Jamise Harper, for her awesome book recommendations being featured.

Beautifully colored images and great idea designs to help you create a warm rich inviting atmosphere to read and display your books and memorabilia! There’s lots of style and functionality but also a flair for sophistication or even a very homely feel. My favorites are the all wood bedroom bookshelves with the cozy fireplace and the PRINCE nook! 4stars! 5 stars for the photography!

Beautifully photographed and well-curated collection of style and inspiration for every room and book lover. I enjoyed the thoughtful details, like the lists of favorite books that were sprinkled throughout. While the focal point is books, I found tons of design inspiration from each photograph and section. Well done! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review an ARC.

As an avid bookworm, I fantasize about designing book nooks all the time, so I appreciated this book. It includes many helpful suggestions about how to store book for specific aesthetics (e.g. classic, modern, surrounded by plants, etc) and constraints such as limited available space. I learned some useful tips I plan to put into action and felt inspired by all the bookishness. Some nooks I thought were incredible- book nook built into a wardrobe à la Narnia (page 70)?? Genius. The kids’ book nook section was definitely the most creative and inspiring. While many of the featured book nooks were simple and plain, I appreciate how accessible these nooks are, as I don’t have a huge budget.

That said, the photographs and featured book nooks were pretty average. I liked some of them but would be unlikely to revisit them or display an open page of this in my home. There were some book nooks featured that weren’t very charming at all- the poor books squished into a fireplace on page 28 with their pages facing out rather than their spines, for instance. The small text size was a little difficult to read in ebook format- it’s possible this isn’t a problem in print format.

'Book Nooks' by Vanessa Dina and Claire Gilhuly was a delight to read. The pictures were thought-provoking for those looking for a way to display their books. Broken into sections, there were great suggestions for collectors of books. The section on Cook Book nooks was enlightening for this reader, as I am certain other readers will be inspired by other headings. Of particular delight was the inclusion of the popular authors' books lists such as Gillian Flynn's list of her top ten Favorite Mysteries. The addition of the lists will inspire readers who are drawn to specific genres to mentally compare their lists. 'Book Nooks' is sure to be an enticing reader to book lovers who often wonder how they can display their tomes.

I am both a huge fan of reading and a huge fan of collecting books, so using books as decor is one of my favorite things and I always beeline toward bookshelves when I visit someone else's home. This book is a fun look at how books can be both functional and stylish. Full of styling tips, space maximizing tricks, and book recommendations from some famous contributors (Hi Jasmine Guillory!), this book is so much fun to flip through and would be a great resource if you're looking for inspiration. I particularly enjoyed the section on incorporating books into a baby's room, because those photos were just too sweet! If you're a book lover/collector or are buying for one, I'd definitely recommend this book!
