One Liar Left is the second book in a new thriller series. I thoroughly enjoyed Three Drowned Girls (book 1) and this book did not disappoint! In this second installment the story kicks off with Freya catching a case that seems hauntingly familiar with from her past. Determined to catch the one who got away she assembles her trusty team in pursuit of the killer.
Once again, this book starts off with action and keeps on moving. I sat down and read this book cover to cover in one sitting. My only complaint is having to wait for the next installment in this series.
I was also thrilled that in addition to Freya, the author brought back some of my favorite characters in Candy, Brad, and Esther. I can very easily picture the characters and have found myself developing an attachment to them. I also appreciate having two strong female characters who act as equals and aren't in constant competition with each other. It's a refreshing addition to these books.
Thank you to Bookouture for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Another great read from Emily Shiner, One Liar Left, published by Bookouture
This was book two in the Detective Freya Sinclair series, I enjoyed this a little more than the first book in the series, not sure why, maybe just different subject matter. In all its a great series. This can also be read as a stand alone, but I was glad to have read the first novel for some of the back history.
I enjoyed the characters and the plot in this novel, I liked how Freya interacted with her employees, friends and suspects. I liked how she unfurled the mystery of the murders. The author uses good descriptions of characters, places and events throughout.
All in all a great read and I will continue to read this series if more books are written and will continue to read books by this author.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this novel, I leave this review of my own free will.
I enjoyed reading the first Freya Sinclair and I was intrigued as I followed Freya's desperation to stop the killer, this book led on nicely and had me once again in suspense as Freya works against the clock to stop the killer before it is too late.
This is book 2 in the Detective Freya series and loved it! Freya has one case that she couldn't close and now is he back killing again the Fawn Lake killer or is this a copy cat killer? Freya is on the hunt to find out. This is not a fast paced thriller but definitely a slow mystery. Still loved both books in this series and hope there is more books in this series!
Yet another brilliant crime thriller! I absolutely adore Freya and her small team!
I think this one may even be better than the first! Kept me gripped it was insane fast paced and dam right good!
Fast becoming one of my favourite crime thrillers and I read a lot of them.
The crime is shocking and well written I felt so connected to the characters they feel so real like watching a crime tv show
Emily Shiner has done it again! Not sure how she does it but another great book.
This book catches you at page 1. This is a page turner and will have you wanting to buzz thru it. That ending you never see coming. Just an excellent written book!!! This is full of suspense and twists you wont see coming or guess who to trust. When you think you have it figured out NOPE not even close :)
She will continue to be one of my favorite authors will read anything she writes.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
This is the second book in Emily Shiner’s police procedural series based around Captain Freya Sinclair.
Freya is haunted by a cold case she was never able to solve and it seems the killer is back in action when a woman’s body is found with what appears to be the same MO. When a second body is found, the team are desperate to work out the link and when they do, they realise that there is a potential third victim in the frame and are in a race against time to prevent her murder. And what a crazy race it is, right up until the very last moment, I was holding my breath and the tension was palpable.
I really like Freya as a character; feisty, determined and committed, with respect for her team. Her boss, the chief, really needs taking down a peg or two and I hope that happens in book three!
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Emily Shiner and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book, #2 in the Detective Freya Sinclair series. It’s an edge of your seat page turner. I couldn’t put it down.
Freya and her team have to solve the case of two women found murdered while camping in the forest. Freya has the feeling it’s linked to the killer she was unable to catch in the past.
It’s fast paced, gripping and intense with lots of twists and turns. It’s descriptively written bringing the scenes to life as you read and you can feel the characters emotions and actions just jump right off the pages. Just brilliant.
The characters are all likeable and I really liked the team dynamics.
I loved the chapters that are written by the killer, they really add to the tension.
Overall, a brilliant complex mystery that will keep you guessing. Definitely recommend if you enjoy police procedural, mystery thrillers. I look forward to reading the next book in the series @authoremilyshiner.
With thanks to #NetGallery @bookouture for an arc of #OneLiarLeft in exchange for a honest review.

Detective Freya Sinclair #2
The one killer Detective Freya Sinclair never caught is back. High up in the mountains of Clear Creek Forest, where the mist clings to the pines, the bodies of Milly Woodward and Jolie Marin are discovered by their fading campfire. Could this be the work of the notorious Fawn Lake Killer? The forest was once his hunting ground. And Freya knows his tattered, red woolen scarf wound tightly around Jolie's neck is hiding his chilling MO. Her throat has been cut. The one case Freya has never solved has haunted her for years. She knows the Fawn Lake Killer is organised, and that he never leaves any DNA. But why did he stop, and why has he resurfaced now?
The suspense starts at the beginning of this book and slowly builds until the end. I started this book in the morning and could not put it down again until I had read the last page. The pace is steady, the characters are well-developed, and the twists keep coming. The plot is complex. There are chapters in this book that have been written from the killer's perspective. Freya couldn't catch the killer the last time he was around, will she catch him now? I'm looking forward to the third book in this series.

This book is the second installment of the Freya Sinclair series. High up in the mountains of Clear Creek Forest, where mist clings to the pines, the bodies of Millie Woodward and Jolie Marin are discovered by their fading campfire. Could this be the work of the notorious Fawn Lake Killer? This forest was once his hunting ground. And Freya knows the tattered, red woolen scarf wound tightly around Jolie’s neck is hiding his chilling MO. Her throat has been cut.
The one case Freya has never solved has haunted her for years. She knows the Fawn Lake Killer is organized, that he never leaves any DNA. But why did he stop, and why has he resurfaced now? Before she can even search the forest, Freya makes a heart-breaking discovery in her own backyard: the body of Annaliese Nowland, her long blonde hair fanned out in the tall grass. Annaliese’s tongue is missing. Freya knows it’s a message: he’s silencing these women. And taunting Freya.
Working day and night to make a connection, Freya finally uncovers the missing puzzle piece: a photograph of all three victims in high school together. But there’s a fourth woman in the photo, her face turned slightly away from the camera. Freya must track her down before it is too late.
Freya won’t let the past repeat itself. Did these women die because of her failure, or is she overlooking a vital clue that points to someone close to home? Freya must face her demons if she’s going to stop this predator taking another innocent life. But he’s one step ahead. And he’s coming for her…
I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment of this series. The second one did not disappoint! It was great to dive deeper into Freya's character. The storyline was interesting and the big twist came about 75% of the way through.
3.75 out of 5 ⭐️

Revenge, it's a killer!
Welcome back to Fawn Lake, the setting of the thrilling Detective Freya series. The premise of this story is captivating, starting with an explosive prologue that captures the reader's attention. However, there were a few aspects of the main character and procedural details that bothered me, affecting my overall rating of the book. Despite this, it is still possible to enjoy this book without having read the first installment in the series, as there are no significant connections between the two books, apart from being introduced to key characters in the previous story. While there were snippets of potential character development in the first book, unfortunately, they are not explored further in this second installment.
One of the main sources of my frustration was the main character, Freya. It is disheartening to find oneself irritated by the main character while reading a book. Some of this irritation stemmed from her character traits and the way certain things were expressed. Let me provide a couple of examples, hoping to avoid any spoilers:
• In the first book, we learn that Freya's parents were convicted serial killers. She constantly battles public opinion, hoping that people will recognize her commitment to her career and stop judging her based on her parents' crimes. However, despite her own experiences, she quickly assumes and comments on the guilt of the victim's fiancé, whose father has a criminal record. This prejudiced mindset felt inconsistent with her character and undermined my support for her.
• Additionally, a cold case from a decade ago continues to haunt Freya. While I understand her desire to solve the case, describing the killer as the most important person in her life felt off. Instances like these throughout the story impacted both my liking for the character and my overall engagement with the plot.
I have read numerous books in this genre, and I typically do not fixate on procedural details. However, as I read this book, I caught myself playing the role of a backseat driver, offering commentary or unsolicited advice. Here are a few examples that had me questioning the characters' actions:
• When Freya concludes that the Fawn Lake killer has returned based on a single consistency between the cases—the mark on the bodies—I couldn't help but think, wouldn't it be easy to compare the marks to see if they match?
• It struck me as odd that there were no death notifications or attempts to gather more information from the victim's family, friends, or colleagues.
• A significant clue leads to another cold case, yet the team only rely on a simple Google search of articles. Why not access the original case file or connect with the team that previously worked on it?
• While no DNA was found at the first crime scene attributed to the Fawn Lake killer, a comparison is made later in the story.
• Pursuing a person of interest who was around 12 years old at the time of the initial crime undermines the theory that the same killer is responsible for both crimes, which occurred 10 years apart.
These are just a few examples, but many more were racing through my mind as I read this book. This internal commentary stilted the story flow for me.
One Liar Left is the second book in the Freya Sinclair series by Emily Shiner and in my opinion, better than the first. I enjoyed the first book in the series, where I gave it 3.5 stars, but this one for me is a solid 4 stars.
In this book, the 'main twist' came through around 75%, however, the plot twists never stopped coming in this book, till the end the twists were amazing.
However, as mentioned in my previous review for book 1, some scenes were overly descriptive were unnecessary reasons. To me some parts did not make sense, such as in book 1, didn't most of the people in the town hate Freya but in book 2, everyone in the town seemed to love her? During the end scenes, after the main climax, Freya was shown to be heavily injured, as she was stabbed in the hip, but a week later she was up and running again, it felt slightly unrealistic. I also wished we had seen some sort of justice for one of the victims, throughout the book this crime is constantly mentioned, however towards the end it got sort of forgotten.
All that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its characters and look forward to any future Freya Sinclair books and to read the amazing chemistry between Freya and her team (Candy and Brad, also Ms Shiner, please make Brad a detective, he deserves it !)
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
A great read and it didn't matter that I hadn't read the first one as it read as a stand alone. I read this so quickly as I couldn't put it down. Worth 5 stars or more. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
This was the second book in the Freya Sinclair series, and it was just as great as the first! Emily has a way of making me feel as though I'm at the crime scenes with Freya and her crew, and helping to solve the case. She has great detail in her books, and always manages to hold my attention, wanting to know more! I've loved everything I've read by Emily so far, and can't wait to read more!
One Liar Left is the second installment in the Detective Freya Sinclair Series and it is a good one!
This was a fast paced, nail-biting, detective thriller that had a lot of twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat.
The descriptive writing in Emily's style makes this a bingable read! I loved it!
4.5 stars rounded up. This is the second book in Emily Shinter's Freya Sinclair series. I liked this one better than the first one. Freya is a captain of detectives in the Fawn Lake police station. There was one murderer in her career who she never was able to apprehend, and she believes he is back. This weighs heavy on her because if she had caught him back then, more people wouldn't need to die. I really like how Freya interacts with her team, Candy and Brad. Also the Chief is a great addition. A hot headed boss who Freya has no problem standing up to. This was a gripping book and fast paced. It kept me interested and I couldn't wait to see what was what at the end. I'm excited for the next book in this series.
thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I do recommend this book.
