I only know two songs by Tegan and Sara, yet I was rather intrigued to read their comic series. The illustrations by Tillie Walden were phenomenal and my favorite aspect of this graphic novel. I loved how each twin had their own color assigned to differentiate the two perspectives. Unfortunately, that's where my adoration ended. I had trouble figuring out the various networks between side characters and kept getting them confused. The drama was annoying and shallow, which is to be expected from middle schoolers. I think transfiguring the setting to a modern time period instead of the 90's was a disservice to the twins. It didn't need the crutch of 21st century props to relay their original story. If there's a future book in the series I won't be reading it. I loved the artwork and bright color palette, but the story didn't grip me enough to care. I'll always think of this comic whenever I hear Tegan and Sara's songs in the future, but it won't be with great fondness I fear.

Very cute for those moody middle school dreamers! I truly enjoyed this one and felt it was a perfect story for some of my music girlies with big dreams. Great for the target audience.

I received a copy of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Crush is the sequel to Junior High, and it is just as sweet as the first one was! Tegan and Sara are so personable and relatable, and I think anyone who attended (felt the crushing weight of) middle school can see part of themselves in this series. I love the different colors for each person's narration, it makes it easier to keep up with who is speaking. All in all, a pretty enjoyable graphic novel! 3.5 stars rounded down.

Picking up where the previous graphic novel left off, this one finds Tegan and Sara at the beginning of eighth grade with their music career just beginning to take off. In addition to suddenly finding themselves in the spotlight, both girls have to navigate new crushes and changing friendships. Just like everyone else in middle school.

Thanks to Farrar, Straus, and Giroux and NetGalley for an advanced copy of Tegan and Sara: Crush by Tegan and Sara Quin to review! Tillie Walden is illustrating these, and she is one of my absolute favorite graphic novel creators. Her art style is so unique, and I love how it shines in these! Her art style meshes really well with Tegan and Sara’s writing.

There is a little more of a focus on the music career in this one, with both Tegan and Sara struggling to agree on what direction they want their band to take. One wants to really focus on becoming more professional and one just wants to focus on her friends and home life. It makes for a relatable story, even if not many eighth graders will find themselves in the same position.

I felt like Tegan and Sara’s writing got better in this one, with more of a balance between the text and the images. This one is overall stronger than the first book, as it really feels like they came into their stride with this one. I’m not sure if there are going to be more books in this series, but there is definitely an opening to do so!

All in all, if you like queer middle grade graphic novels and Tegan and Sara, definitely check this one out!

Tegan and Sara begin eighth grade with their music career starting to take off. This brings both excitement and challenges for the girls. This book focuses on Tegan and Sara’s crushes and love for music.

I enjoyed this one a bit more than the first installment in the series, but both are good. I highly recommend this one to those that enjoy graphic novels as well as those that enjoy Tegan and Sara. The authors did a great job navigating what queer teenage crushes are like. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

We jump right back into Teagan and Sara’s lives in this second graphic novel, beautifully illustrated by Tillie Walden. Teagan and Sara are facing down the last days of summer and starting a new school year — and they’re also pushing themselves more with their music. The sisters aren’t on the same page though when it comes to how hard to push themselves, and striving to be taken seriously. Friendships and crushes pull them in different directions, too, adding to the tension. Walden’s art and colorwork are so good at capturing all the feelings caught up in the girls’ story, and I especially love the in-between-the-twins-minds scenes for glimpses into their relationship. I will recommend to the middle grade readers at our library, many of whom are already fans of the first book!

I adored the first graphic novel, and this one is just as cute! It explores first crushes and changing feelings and pressures in the music industry. It did take me a little bit to remember who everyone was since I read the first one 8 months ago, but the story is cute and the artwork is lovely.

Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review!

Tegan and Sara are a good bit younger than I am and I had the pleasure of watching their careers over the decades. One of my middle school students is obsessed with Junior High and on his first day back to school this year asked when Crush was coming out. He will not be disappointed. I love the story and Tillie Walden's art. Tegan and Sara capture the angst and emotions of 8th grade friendships and crushes.

After reading High School, I was very excited for this series and it lives up to my expectations in every way.

After reading "Junior High" my expectations were no easy things to meet, but "Crush" met them. I love how Tegan and Sara modernized the graphic novel to be more relatable to current readers. I also enjoyed the color schematics; you knew it was an important moment when the colors appeared, and having blue and red for each person respectively, made it easier to follow the storyline.

This is a cute follow up to their first book Junior High loosely based on their life in middle school. The artwork is super captivating and just draws you in, the story itself is great and age appropriate for young readers. Whether you love Tegan and Sara or not this is a keeper.

This was a cute read. Without much knowledge of the history of Tegan and Sara, it was a little bit hard to follow. Or it could have been that without the history I didn't feel as drawn into the story.

Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and Author for an ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for my review.

This comic is the conclusion to the Tegan & Sara Junior High-Crush duology and it might be recommended reading them in order, as the story in Crush builds on the events of the first book.

The story really develops upon the "relationships" and the complicated themes and situations associated with them including: Sisterhood, First Crushes, First Kisses and Broken Friendships. The storyline truly delves into the complicated inner-lives of middle graders.

Fans of Tegan and Sara’s music will love watching their journey into writing books and tv shows and be interested in thinking about what may be based on their own experiences and what is more fictional

The art in this series is creative and thematic using various styles and colors to represent different conversations. The artist does a brilliant job of illustrating the emotions and thoughts of the twins, clashing or uniting, by using two primary colors to represent them.

This book/duology is perfect for younger teens and tweens wrestling sexual identity, early life relationships, and drama in general, though readers of any age would enjoy.

A continuation of the first in this series, Crush is a great next step in the story! I've shared the first in the series (Junior High) with my niece who is 13, and she loves it. I plan to get her a copy of Crush the day it releases. Highly recommend for great plot and great artistry!

A fabulous book for older MG readers and beyond! Tegan and Sara's music is becoming more popular and they get signed, which causes a lot of stress and added pressure. Watch as Tegan and Sara navigate this new hurdle in their relationship while they also handle their first big crushes. Readers will connect with all of the characters and they'll enjoy getting a behind the scenes peek at what the music industry is like. Readers will have a hard time putting this book down!

Tegan and Sara is back with their band! in this book their team works as a band is needed as ever, they got a manager, but at the end of the day they're still kids and sisters. and disagreements were unavoidable. they faced pressure like none they've ever had while navigating through stardom beside their personal feelings. it was a nice read.

This book was so cute! I loved the first one and this did not disappoint. While the first was more about growing up and starting middle school, this was more about budding fame. Although I can't relate to being famous, I could still relate to first crushes, growing up and having a similar relationship with my sister. I loved it and hope they come out with more!
