I adored the first graphic novel, and this one is just as cute! It explores first crushes and changing feelings and pressures in the music industry. It did take me a little bit to remember who everyone was since I read the first one 8 months ago, but the story is cute and the artwork is lovely.
Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review!
Tegan and Sara are a good bit younger than I am and I had the pleasure of watching their careers over the decades. One of my middle school students is obsessed with Junior High and on his first day back to school this year asked when Crush was coming out. He will not be disappointed. I love the story and Tillie Walden's art. Tegan and Sara capture the angst and emotions of 8th grade friendships and crushes.
After reading High School, I was very excited for this series and it lives up to my expectations in every way.
After reading "Junior High" my expectations were no easy things to meet, but "Crush" met them. I love how Tegan and Sara modernized the graphic novel to be more relatable to current readers. I also enjoyed the color schematics; you knew it was an important moment when the colors appeared, and having blue and red for each person respectively, made it easier to follow the storyline.
This is a cute follow up to their first book Junior High loosely based on their life in middle school. The artwork is super captivating and just draws you in, the story itself is great and age appropriate for young readers. Whether you love Tegan and Sara or not this is a keeper.
This was a cute read. Without much knowledge of the history of Tegan and Sara, it was a little bit hard to follow. Or it could have been that without the history I didn't feel as drawn into the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc. Cute art and story! It's so much fun to get to know Tegan and Sarah. I recommend it!
Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and Author for an ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for my review.
This comic is the conclusion to the Tegan & Sara Junior High-Crush duology and it might be recommended reading them in order, as the story in Crush builds on the events of the first book.
The story really develops upon the "relationships" and the complicated themes and situations associated with them including: Sisterhood, First Crushes, First Kisses and Broken Friendships. The storyline truly delves into the complicated inner-lives of middle graders.
Fans of Tegan and Sara’s music will love watching their journey into writing books and tv shows and be interested in thinking about what may be based on their own experiences and what is more fictional
The art in this series is creative and thematic using various styles and colors to represent different conversations. The artist does a brilliant job of illustrating the emotions and thoughts of the twins, clashing or uniting, by using two primary colors to represent them.
This book/duology is perfect for younger teens and tweens wrestling sexual identity, early life relationships, and drama in general, though readers of any age would enjoy.
I really enjoyed this sequel to Junior High. The story was great, and as always, Tillie Walden's illustrations were wonderful.
A continuation of the first in this series, Crush is a great next step in the story! I've shared the first in the series (Junior High) with my niece who is 13, and she loves it. I plan to get her a copy of Crush the day it releases. Highly recommend for great plot and great artistry!
A fabulous book for older MG readers and beyond! Tegan and Sara's music is becoming more popular and they get signed, which causes a lot of stress and added pressure. Watch as Tegan and Sara navigate this new hurdle in their relationship while they also handle their first big crushes. Readers will connect with all of the characters and they'll enjoy getting a behind the scenes peek at what the music industry is like. Readers will have a hard time putting this book down!
Tegan and Sara is back with their band! in this book their team works as a band is needed as ever, they got a manager, but at the end of the day they're still kids and sisters. and disagreements were unavoidable. they faced pressure like none they've ever had while navigating through stardom beside their personal feelings. it was a nice read.
i’ve been a fan of Tegan and Sara for a while now and was so excited to read this! also been in a huge graphic novel phase so when i saw this i knew i had to read it! Coming of age/ lesbians and first crushes so cute!! also love the illustration in it and the COVERRRR!!!
This book was so cute! I loved the first one and this did not disappoint. While the first was more about growing up and starting middle school, this was more about budding fame. Although I can't relate to being famous, I could still relate to first crushes, growing up and having a similar relationship with my sister. I loved it and hope they come out with more!
Crush is a fantastic follow up to last year’s Junior High. The artwork is gorgeous and the story is great for all ages. You don’t have to know or be fans of Tegan and Sara to enjoy this story, in fact I suspect for most leaders this will be an introduction. If you are an adult fan, grab a copy for the middle grade readers in your life.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed “Tegan and Sara: Crush” both from a graphics standpoint and the story itself. It built upon the first story really well. I loved seeing their friendships and relationships blossom and grow as they went through so much change. The book did a great job of highlighting how it feels to be in junior high while figuring out who you are as a person. The extra emphasis on their music career was interesting as well. Seeing their parents (and themselves) advocate for their choices and views was heart warming.
I would recommend this book to fans of Tegan and Sara, as well as any young readers navigating adolescence.

Inspired by the lives of Grammy nominated, indie-pop twin sister duo, Tegan + Sara, this is the sequel to their bestselling contemporary middle grade graphic novel, 'Junior High'. Its about crushes-the groovey-kind-of-love crush, the I got this crushing it, and the crsuh of sometimes things not living up to your dreams. I loved how this represented the complex and exploratory nature of being a teen in middle school, and, sometimes, their angst. Its creative and spunky and fun. The support of family and friends, and lifestyle choices are tactfully and respectfully represented. The importance of adolescents facing challenges that growing up brings-sexual awareness and identity, developing a sense of self and belonging and relationship conflicts are so well done. The illustrations are masterful, using color to convey theme or mood, and match this story so well.
I really enjoyed this wonderful representation of growing up, maturing and middle school. As a long-time fan of Tegan and Sara- I had a crush on one of them-years later the sisters give us crush. Although this is aimes at a middle/high school age reader, I think anyone would enjoy and identity with this book.
Thanks to netgalley for sending this e-book ARC for review.

I think I enjoyed this installment more than junior high; I liked the shift from friendship drama to more focus on navigating a music career while also being in grade 8. I felt the storyline with Noa wrapped up a little too conveniently for my taste, but I also enjoyed the lack of drama and focus on the friend group together. I feel like this one also simply had less text that junior high, which made it easier to read and I felt this book overall had more of a focus. Besides music, this book focuses a lot of the girls have crushes, and I liked the add of having a crush on an older girl (isn't that so many queer girls' experience??). The way this wrapped up, it could be the conclusion or the series could continue. I'd love to read more, and I'm hopeful this isn't the end of Tegan and Sara's graphic novels.
As a big fan of Tegan and Sara's music, I have really enjoyed reading these graphic novels. Crush is the second book in the duology and follows Tegan and Sara's journey as they begin to navigate their music career and adolescence. These are books that I wish I had had when I was younger and I absolutely recommend them to readers of any age. I love that these books are set in modern times but written with an autobiographical influence making them a new and creative way to tell stories. I definitely recommend for both fans of Tegan and Sara as well as those looking for a fun, graphic memoir.
Thank you so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for the e-arc.
I loved this conclusion to the Tegan & Sara Junior High-Crush duology! For those who have not read the first graphic novel, Junior High, I highly recommend reading that one first, as the story in Crush builds on the events of the first book.
I appreciated the direction of Crush. It felt like the story really ran with the relationships that were established in the first book, as well as the complicated feelings associated with these relationships. From broken friendships to sisterhood to first crushes and first kisses, the book really explores the complicated inner lives of middle grade students. I also enjoyed seeing the next steps in (fictionalized) Tegan and Sara's music career. I'm looking forward to adding Crush to my classroom library next to Junior High!
Thank you to NetGalley for my advanced reader copy.
