This murder mystery kept you on your toes trying to figure out what was going on. It had time travel, modern and historical activity, a little romance, friendship, etc. I enjoyed the characters, but struggled with some of the historical details.

I originally requested this ARC title because I have enjoyed Kelley Armstrong in the past. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this was the 3rd book in a series! Of course I HAD to read the previous 2 before this one and I found them all to be light, easy reads. I love time travel books, but you can't get bogged down by the physics and time-line theories or you may enjoy this one less. I suspended all that and just went along for the mystery ride with Duncan and Katrina/Mallory. Their blossoming romance was as apparent as it was slow. . .VERY! I get it that this is Victorian Scotland, but at least could they announce their intentions by book 3! I liked the time travel plot twist that happened in this book and I will definitely be picking up book 4.

Disturbing the Dead by Kelley Armstrong Is one of those books that has a story so good it's hard to stop listening or reading. I love the person out of time kind of stories as well as a good mystery and this has it covered, and the plot twist was great since I didn't see it coming. I really enjoyed the narrator they did a wonderful job.

I am absolutely addicted to this historical thriller series. Admittedly, I am a sucker for the “person out of time trope” but the author writes the premise so well.
To the best of my knowledge, this author did a lot of research and infused those historical accuracies (whenever possible) into the fictionalized plot.
This is the third book in this series, but it continues to feel fresh. I appreciate that the story does not feel completely static but instead the characters advance with each installment.
I love spending time in historical Scotland with these characters and highly recommend this one to readers, especially those who love Outlander.
Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Once again, Kelley Armstrong puts us in 1869 Edinburgh, in Disturbing The Dead. This is the third book in the A Rip Through Time series, and now I can’t wait for book four!
Mallory, a 21st century Canadian detective, is in Scotland to be with her dying grandmother, and mysteriously finds herself transported not only to 1869, but in the body of a younger housemaid, Catriona! Mallory is the ultimate “fish out of water,” having to get used to 19th century clothing and customs, and with this being the third book, she’s doing a pretty good job of it. She’s also gotten very fond of the people in her household, who luckily are more progressive than the average Victorian. Dr. Duncan Gray is a biracial doctor who runs his family’s funeral business and does research on bodies when he can and helps the police on occasion. Gray’s sister Isla is a chemist and she’s a great character as well. They both know what Mallory’s story really is. The number of people who are privy to this information keeps expanding, gradually. Mallory is now being introduced to people as Gray’s assistant.
This time the mystery involves an unwrapping of an Egyptian mummy, for the delight of the upper-class folks in Edinburgh. When the mummy is unwrapped, though, it’s not an ancient Egyptian but a contemporary body, one that everyone there knows. A fun subplot involves finding out who is writing popular broadsheets about Dr. Gray’s and Mallory’s “adventures,” wherein Mallory is depicted only as a sexy, pretty sidekick.
There’s a delightful twist about 2/3 through the book, which was really well done.
You could read this as a standalone, but you’d miss a lot of backstory. You will simply have to accept the situation and enjoy the mystery story and the characters.
I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient, and allowed me to continue with the story even when I could not sit down and read - or when I could not listen. The audiobook was well narrated by Kate Handford once again.
Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book and to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

This is the third book in the Rip Through Time series, and while with mystery series I don’t usually insist you read them in order, for this one I do. I love these books and this one is by far my favorite (so far). This book contained a twist I wasn’t really expecting, and at first I was not happy, but it was really done super well. I know, I shouldn’t have had doubts, but I am merely human. Mallory and Dr. Gray and Isla are invited to a mummy unwrapping party and while the thought kind of sickens her she can’t help but be swept there. Unsurprisingly at the unveiling is the discovery of a murder and Mallory immediately starts to held the Detective and Dr. Gray. What was unexpected is the discovery that the hosts for the party were familiar with them because someone has been writing a serial of their adventures giving Dr. Gray all of the credit and putting Mallory in the role of pretty side kick. This book frequently had me laughing and I truly love these characters. I am hopeful this will be far from the last in this series. I started this one with the audiobook and I loved the narrator, she truly brought Mallory’s voice to light and part of me wishes I could have been patient enough to finish it that way as some of the later scenes would have been so much better read to me in what I see as her voice, but patience has never been my virtue and I finished the second two thirds by kindle which is by far faster for me. I gave this one 4.5 stars rounded up for catching me off guard with a twist.

This novel is both eerie and educational while infusing time-traveling and intrigue. The historical detail is engrossing. However, I confess—I occasionally veered off to Google for context since I had never heard of Mummia.
The third book in this series, Victorian Scotland has become less confusing to modern-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinson—a woman who, despite inhabiting someone else’s body, has found her place in this century. Her job as an assistant to undertaker and medical examiner Dr. Duncan Gray offers insight into investigations even if she vexes those around her with her knowledge and strange word choices.
It appears that an invitation to a mummy unwrapping is all the rage so the well-to-do descend on the home of Sir Alastair Christie. My brain kept wanting to relate him to Agatha. But when their host goes missing, Mallory and Gray (with the help of two adorable children) step in, only to discover that the unwrapped “mummy” is a much more modern corpse.
Armstrong’s cheeky narrative had me laughing at parts that others might not find as funny. And then, a twist—one that made me gasp. Fear bubbled up as I wondered if this would be the series finale. But it’s not. There is so much more for Gray and Mallory as we continue the journey alongside these wonderful characters who blend history, humor, and heart.

This one had me gasping and reeling the entire time, plus nearly to tears at one point. I hope for many more books from this series. This series is one I'll read for a long time!

I love the combination of time travel and mystery. It just works so well! I enjoyed the story and the characters. However, I was a little lost at time having not read the first two books on this series. Other than that, the audiobook is fantastic. I was introduced to many characters and sometimes it was hard to keep up. But the story has a good flow. Usually we have time travel where the main character is going back in time to save avoid a catastrophe, so this one is refreshing. Plus it’s not everyday you hear about a mummy unwrapping party! I suggest readers to start with the first book though, which is what I wish I’ve done.

Admittedly i started on book 3 not knowing it was a series so i was a little lost in places....
I wanted a little bit more from Mallory and Duncan - i can see a slow burn relationship brewing there but Gahhhhh it seems to have been going on 3 books
The characters the setting the imagination and probably the research by this Author to create such a setting, what was and wasn't known at the time mixed the Egyptian history was just phenomenal.....
I loved the story the Intrigue injected with comical quips from characters as Mallory and Duncan tried their best to solve the Mummy Murder.
Audiobooking: Kate Handford did an incredible job capturing all the characters and accents....

I want To NetGalley and the publishers were giving me the opportunity to review this audiobook… I have to save this is just what I was looking for in a book… it’s exactly the adventure I’ve been looking for. I wake up some days, thinking that I was born in the wrong period of time and should be somewhere else this book just put them out in the world… Definitely has everything book the adventure of the comedy the drama, the action, the love again thank you

Disturbing the Dead, by Kelly Armstrong is the third installment in a fantastic series. I listened to this audio book first, and I was able to dive right in and follow along. I finished this audio book in two days, (because it was so good). The narration was excellent, and I was immediately transported into another century. I liked it so much, I borrowed the first two from the library, and this has become one of my favorite series. Disturbing the Dead is a must read/listen for lovers of historical fiction/time travel novels.

Well done, I love the mystery and historical fiction behind these books. I enjoyed the narrators voice as well.

A Rip Through Time series is one of my favorites because they are historical thrillers, with a splash of mystical, with a unique premise and very engaging characters. I listened to the audio version of Disturbing the Dead, which is the third installment in the series by Kelley Armstrong. In the first book we learn that Mallory Atkinson is a present day Canadian police detective who is transported back in time about 150 years ago to Edinburgh when she is being strangled in the same spot that another woman was strangled (she switches bodies with the other woman). She is initially accepted in the household of undertaker Dr Duncan Grey as a maid, and she works her way up to becoming Duncan's assistant with her knowledge of murdered dead bodies.
In Disturbing the Dead, the subject of the mystery surrounds Egyptian mummies, which was all the rage in Victorian times. At a party commemorating the unwrapping of a specific mummy, the host is found murdered. Duncan and Mallory are asked to help with the case and their investigation brings many surprising results, including a subplot of an anonymous writer selling stories about the adventures of Duncan's beautiful and buxom assistant.
Kate Handford narrated this audiobook as she did in the prior two installments. She provided differing voices for all the characters, and inflected the right amount of shock, exasperation, and sorrow in all the right places. Brava! Simply put, I highly recommend this audiobook!

This is the first book I’ve read in this series and I had no problem following along. I absolutely loved the characters and the story the author gave us. Now I want to read the previous books and can’t wait for the next installment!

Disturbing the Dead by Kelley Armstrong is a delightful blend of time travel, suspense, and paranormal mystery. A seemingly ordinary mummy unwrapping ceremony takes a sinister turn, plunging detective Mallory Atkinson & Dr. Gray into a murder investigation. Armstrong expertly weaves suspense and Victorian atmosphere into a thrilling adventure that's both fun and delightful. Perfect for fans of time travel and historical mysteries!

Thank you for the clarification! Here's the revised section:
In "Disturbing the Dead," the third installment of the A Rip Through Time series, Mallory Atkinson faces a pivotal decision that could alter the course of her life and the direction of the series. Set in the Victorian Era, Mallory, a modern-day police officer, becomes entangled in a mystery surrounding an Egyptian mummy as she works alongside Dr. Gray to solve the case. It is during this investigation that Mallory must choose between returning home and staying in the past, where she has built a strong connection with Dr. Gray and feels a sense of belonging. This dilemma not only adds emotional depth to the story but also sets the stage for future developments in the series.
As Mallory grapples with her decision, the tension builds, leading to unexpected twists and difficult choices. Her evolving relationships with other characters, such as the cook, add layers of complexity to her character growth, while the narrator, Kate Hanford, skillfully brings the story to life with nuanced portrayals that enhance the listening experience. Hanford's ability to differentiate between characters through voice changes not only aids in clarity but also adds depth to the narration, making it easier for listeners to follow the story without missing a beat.
Overall, "Disturbing the Dead" offers a captivating blend of mystery, time travel, and romance, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with its suspenseful plot, unexpected twists, and thought-provoking dilemmas. With a compelling protagonist, intricate relationships, and a talented narrator, this installment delivers an engaging and immersive experience that will leave listeners eager for more from the A Rip Through Time series.

In this series, Mallory is a 30 year-old 21st century police detective who has been transported to 1869 Edinburgh and into the body of an 18 year-old housemaid with an unsavory past named Catriona. Her employers, Dr Gray & his sister Isla, now know Mallory is displaced in time and she is more of an assistant to Dr Gray in his work for the police in solving murders than she is a housemaid. They are all invited to a mummy unwrapping party which is interrupted when the unwrapped mummy turns out to be their missing host. As they investigate along with Detective McCreadie the trail leads them to several suspects and an unexpected choice confronts Mallory.

Kelley Armstrong’s latest addition to the Rip in Time series, “Disturbing the Dead,” is a masterful continuation that not only met but exceeded my expectations. As a long-time fan, I found this installment to be my favourite. It also signifies a pivotal moment in the series, that I won't share due to spoilers.
Mallory, the protagonist, continues to be a standout character, effortlessly winning over readers with her wit and resilience. Her journey is one of the core strengths of Armstrong’s storytelling, blending humour and action (as well as the past and present) that makes this mystery/historical fiction an entertaining ride.
While “Disturbing the Dead” can be enjoyed as a standalone novel, I wholeheartedly recommend diving into the entire series to fully appreciate the depth and evolution of the characters and the world they inhabit.
"Disturbing the Dead” showcases Kelley Armstrong’s unique blend of humour, suspense, and supernatural flair. It’s a must-read for fans and newcomers alike, and I was thrilled to be chosen to listen to an ARC for one of my favourite authors and series.
This was a review for NetGalley.

Interesting concept and reminded me of the tv series Quantum Leap, but this was much more engaging and fun! I also did not realize until after I finished this may be part of a series, so exciting to dig into what else these characters have been up too.
