I loved this book! I bought book 1 right away and read it, then followed with this book and couldn't put either of them down. Plan to read other books by this author! Thank you for approving me for this book! Loved the characters, suspense, story, everything!!! Will definitely recommend this book to my reader friends!

Everyone over at @thrillerbookloversthepulse loved The Killing Room and we were all anxiously awaiting this one. And it did NOT disappoint!

This picked up right where The Killing Room left off and did not miss a beat. Fast paced and filled with excellent characters, so many twists and some amazing villains. Daniel had me rooting for him. And I dare say, I think I loved this even more than the first!

you like action packed thrills then look no further. This book will keep you turning those pages, wanting to find out who really behind it all. This is book #2 in The Killing Room Series by Robert Swartwood. If anyone remembers I LOVED that book last year. I couldn't get enough. This one started out very rough around the edges for me. A little more military style than I'm used to reading, but once I got into the storyline - it really flowed. You also then start to see the flashbacks to book 1 and understand the correlation. This time instead of hunting down the bad guys, he's running from them while trying to decipher who is the ultimate "bad guy in charge". He knows the ins and outs, but can he outsmart them? The ending left me stunned!! This is another fabulous installment and I'm almost wondering that ending leaves enough open for a book #3 PREORDER THIS ONE NOW

Listened to the audio on this book and reviewed it as such. I felt that the 1st book of the series should be read before this installment.

A good book that is full of action. This is the first book I have read from this author so a few spots I had to fill in the blanks, but I think I got the main gist of the story. The first part seemed a bit outlandish for me, even as someone who reads these types of books a lot. I did really enjoy it as it progressed. Daniel Burke has been wrongly accused of some heinous things after people thought he was dead. Easy mark. He comes back out from hiding and aims to get to all those who are corrupt and the action propels this book until the end. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed The Killing Room by Robert Swartwood last year so when I saw that the sequel was coming out, I knew that I had to read it.
Enemy of the State is a phenomenal read. It is full of non-stop action and so many unexpected twists. The writing is impeccable and flows so well (and fast) that you don’t even notice that it is around 400 pages. I couldn’t put it down and I stayed up most of the night because I didn’t want to stop reading. Robert Swartwood is a true storyteller and I felt like I could visualize every moment like I was watching a movie.
I love a cliffhanger and this book definitely leaves you with exciting anticipation for what will come next! You don’t want to miss out on this series!

I use assistive readers as an accessibility device because I take medications for disabilities that affect my vision. Since the author or publisher opted not to make assistive readers available on this ARC, I am unable to read it. I apologize for this inconvenience, but devices are necessary for disabled readers and should be made available to us.

I didn’t think there will be a sequel to the killing room, but I am so glad there was. That was a great debut and this one lives up to it and then some. Keep this series coming.

"Stuffing the phones into my pants pockets, I secured the spent Glock in my rear waistband, slipped my left hand---the one still wearing the handcuffs---into my hoodie pocket, then started toward an alley only twenty feet away, and did the only thing left for me to do.
I ran."

The first book of this series is THE KILLING ROOM. I HIGHLY recommend you read that book first and be WARNED this review may contain spoilers of that book. There is also some rough content, so please check the warnings.

Danny is BACK! I’m absolutely loving this character! ENEMY OF THE STATE is a high octane, no holds barred, FAST paced, action thriller. It starts with intensity and doesn’t let up! Danny used to belong to an elite team of operators who were sent in to “clean up” situations and get information out of people by any means necessary. They worked out of a black site that only a few people in charge even knew existed. Now, Danny’s former team is after HIM, because he’s been labeled a traitor to his country.

I couldn’t read this fast enough y’all. I loved THE KILLING ROOM and this one is just as awesome! There’s shoot outs, chases, hand to hand combat, intense standoffs, hackers, nefarious characters, surprise heroes, and oh yeah, a run in with an MC (motorcycle club)! Danny is a fascinating character. Is he a good guy? Maybe. Is he a bad guy? Mmmm Maybe? The moral ambiguity just makes for a realistic anti hero. Having Stephanie along for the ride this time, (after getting her involved in book one) with her holding her own among Danny’s world was so much FUN!

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio along with the physical book and Edoardo Ballerini’s performance was SUPERB! He had subtle nuances for different voices and his excellent modulation made for an exciting experience, especially with all the action! I need this to be a television series a la 'The Terminal List' or 'Bourne Identity' style. (IFKYK!) I have a bone to pick with you though Robert, and it’s that you keep leaving me wanting MORE! Where is book three sir??? I’m gonna need Quinn and Rita to be in it also mmmmkay?

Enemy of the State
Robert Swartwood
Pub Date: August 20, 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the second book in the Killing Room Series. I’ve heard it can be read as a stand-alone but I feel as though you’d miss out on a lot of good back story, not to mention a thrilling read, if you skip The Killing Room.

This story follows Daniel Burke. The team that he was working for is now hunting him because they believe he is an Enemy of the State. Daniel is specially trained and throughout this book comes into contact with some terrible people who do awful things. There are some scenes that will have you squeamish if you have a weak stomach. (Me 😬🥺) He will stop at nothing to prove his innocence. I honestly don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to ruin the story. However the ending, just like that of The Killing Room will have your jaw on the floor. I really wish I had book three now! If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller, I recommend you picking this one up!

Thank you so much @robertswartwood @bookthrillersthepulse and @blackstone publishing for sending me this #gifted copy!

This is the second book in the 𝘒𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴, and should be read in order, however, the author does a good job catching you up, so it could be read as a standalone.

This picks up right where 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘒𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘮 left off. This gets going right away, and keeps going up until the very end. Daniel is still on the run, and I absolutely love seeing the things he comes up with when does I’m stuck in a hard spot. This is such a fast paced and exciting read. Highly recommend.

The next time anyone asks me for a recommendation for spy thrillers, government-related thrillers, or books that get your heart rate up while reading, I am going to recommend these books. Enemy of the State is book two of the Killing Roomseries. This series started as a revenge story and quickly evolved into an intricate and heart-racing action thriller. This book gave me vibes of Jason Bourne, John Wick, and Taken. The writing was incredibly detailed, and I felt like I was being transported through a high-speed chase. The series features colorful characters, crazy twists, and shocking revelations. I found myself turning the pages so quickly it felt like my fingers were catching on fire. I loved both books, and I cannot wait to see where Daniel Burke goes next.

A big thank you to Netgalley, Blackstone Publishing, Robert Swartwood, and The Pulse for this ARC.

Like the first book in the series, I read this in one sitting ! It was an action packed story that was hard to put down and I enjoyed some of the new characters that were introduced in the story and I hope we see more of Quinn and Teddy .

I’m not sure when Book 3 is scheduled for but sign me up !

I am completely and utterly obsessed with this series. I don't think the author would be able to top The Killing Room, but I binged this in a little over a day. Unputdownable, fast-paced, and full of suspense! I highly recommend you check this out.

4.5 stars Overall Enemy of the State was an exciting read. The last 100 or so pages was action packed. The way it ended.... I'm excited for the next one.

Wow, just wow! Enemy of the State, Book 2 in the Daniel Burke series about a rogue US government elite black ops team, is a high-octane, fast-paced, heart-pounding action thriller, just as good as The Killing Room. I read them back to back over the course of 3 days and it was one super-charged, propulsive ride.

With tense, high-action scenes, morally grey and some just plain evil characters, short chapters, and an exciting ending, I can definitely see both of these books as a movie/TV series. I’m not really a huge action thriller reader but did these two books ever grab my attention from the first chapter and keep my interest throughout. Daniel Burke, the main character, is an intriguing, complex person and I’m really hoping there’s more to come in this series!

I 100% agree with my Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse team members in recommending Enemy of the State (and The Killing Room) to action thriller lovers!!

Thanks to the publisher for this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

I will post my review on my book IG (link in my profile) ans other social media on August 2, my posting date as part of Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse. I will post to Amazon on publication day.

The sequel to The Killing Room is here!!! Last year I read and couldn’t get enough of Daniel Burkes first adventure in Las Vegas, and Enemy of the State picks right up where The Killing Room left off. After everything that had happened, all Daniel wants to do is get out of town, but things get complicated when his former team of operatives are hunting him down., the government want him brought in as a traitor to his country!!

Now if you read the first book, you know that Daniel is not taking this laying down. He knows he is innocent, being framed and will not let this happen. But who can he trust? Seriously, everyone has secrets, everyone is part of something dodgy and nobody is who they say they are. But Daniel knows this, he trusts nobody and is out to save himself.

This book is non stop action from start to finish, and once again leaves it wide open for the next book. Daniel is dealing with some pretty awful people and his training comes into play, not everyone will live to see another day. There is motorcycle gangs, kidnapping, lots of heavy weapons and firearms, car chases, you name it, it is probably in here. I loved it!!

Massive thanks to Robert Swartwood for sending me an early copy to read again, you are amazing!!

My friends at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse have been buzzing about this series since The Killing Room came out last August. The sequel, Enemy of the State, picks up right where The Killing Room left off, and it’s even more of a thrill ride its predecessor! Daniel Burke has been branded a traitor to his country, and operatives from his old team are tasked to bring him in. They had one job: get Daniel on the plane. Spoiler alert (not really!): they failed and chaos immediately ensued. Daniel is on the run and out to prove his innocence, but who can he trust?

This book is incredibly fast paced and the action is non-stop! There are car chases, gun fights, hand-to-hand combat, and that’s just scratching the surface. Just like the first book, this one ends on a cliffhanger and will have you waiting impatiently for book #3! If you enjoy books with political intrigue and espionage-type thrillers, this series is for you! Perfect for fans of Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and novels by Vince Flynn.

This was the first book of this series I had read but not the first book of the series. It was totally readable as a stand alone but you did have a sense that you were missing something or didn't understand it as well as you could have.

Great action.....what happens if someone who was tip of the spear disappears and then reappears branded as a traitor. The characters are complex especially the main character, the action is quick and story line keeps moving. Definitely kept me engaged and curious.

This was a pedal to the metal ride from page one. Full speed ahead from how book one ended, Daniel is now really on the run and has multiple alphabet agencies after him, but only one group really knows the ins and outs of how to find and catch Daniel. They were the ones who trained him after all. Get him on the plane. That was the directive, the task and all hell breaks loose and the mission is a fail. With Daniel once again on the run and elusive to the team who has now been shown to believe he really is the traitor that he appears to be and now they are out for blood. When the team's actions are called into question and a member from the CIA is sent to babysit, it seems that this team is not as well organized as led to believe and as each mission to bring Daniel down gets blown apart and only more casualties continue to build, soon the very top chief has to be briefed. The very last person they wanted knowing anything about this team and the elusive Daniel Burke, is now at risk with this knowledge. Putting his trust in someone from his past and with the help from a friend of his brother's, he puts together a plan to prove his innocence and bring out the true culprit who is behind this all. The one who started it all in The Killing Room. This was a wild ride and I loved every page. Thriller Book Lovers the Pulse has fallen in love with the thrill ride, the character Daniel Burke has taken us on. Thank you to NetGalley and to the author for the complementary ebook. This review is of my own opinion and accord.
