Honestly, the best reviewer of this book was my daughter. She loves art even more then I do and this book was such a wonderful peek in to her mind and how she thinks. It provides an intense but amazing history of art especially for someone like myself that is still learning. The pictures throughout are truly beautiful and makes you want to dig deeper. I hope to read more of this series.
This is a very visually appealing book with a good overview of the history of art and the many different kinds of art. The text is presented in an easy to understand way and formatted to keep the eye moving across the page with lots of little sidebars and popouts of text to snag the attention. There are many pictures and illustrations on each page and the background and decorative elements on the pages are vibrant and colorful. This is a great guide for elementary-school or middle-school aged kiddos interested in art.
*Thanks to DK Publishing for providing an early copy for review.
Wow! I always feel inadequate when it comes to art, because I don't know very much about history and techniques. This book does an amazing job explaining the point of art by going through history and showing the purposes of art through the ages. The examples of artwork are perfect, and you can learn about techniques at the same time. I highly recommend this for everyone, and especially for classrooms.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
I really enjoyed learning about the history of art styles around the world with this book. I appreciated the way it presented various cultures’ art and not just European centric pieces. The material was provided in a structured and accessible way for all ages. It’s a great introduction to art for any learner.
Thank you for the eARC!
I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a great read for all artists especially beginner artists. I loved learning about new-to-me artists and have looked up several artists. I loved learning about art from different time periods. The illustrations were amazing and I really appreciated the glossary that was included in the back of the book.
A must-have for a classroom, a library or anyone interested in art! Packed with vibrant illustrations and bits of information about art in all its forms. Answers many questions children (and adults) have about art. I will definitely add this to my elementary school library!
The cover of this boook will draw readers right in. Here, there are already ideas about the role of art. Open the book and read the beginning section on some points about the importance of art. Next find a beginner’s history of art. It starts with Ancient Art and moves right through up to Contemporary Art.
Throughout, this book is appealingly and colorfully illustrated. Adults (and some kids) will enjoy seeing what is on each page. For example, at the very beginning, readers can see Monet at work.
The text is full of information and features many places and cultures. It does not overwhelm but, I think, offers enough to intrigue children.
I wish that someone had gifted me a book like this when I was younger. Even as an adult I love it. I learned a lot in these pages. Very highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley and DK Children for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is an absolute must in any art classroom. I read this tonight with my 9 year old who loves art and we really enjoyed it together. I recieved this as an ARC from net galley for my honest review
