Expected pub: December 10, 2024

You might be saying to yourself, Arianna, why did you read a book that isn’t out until December when your TBR is out of control?

My answer is simple - how on earth do you expect a girl with zero shelf control NOT to read a book that is a certified @thrillerbookloversthepulse pick and written by one of her fave authors? No one has that kind of restraint!

QOTD: how do you pick your next read?

✨Review ✨

Darby Kane continues her reign as the queen of domestic suspense with What the Wife Knew.

I’m a sucker for a good revenge plot – there’s just something so satisfyingly relatable about it, right? Just me … ?😬

While I wouldn’t go to the extremes in the book , I totally get the allure and it’s a relatable emotion.

Addison is a gem of a protagonist. Her sarcasm and character development are spot-on and standout in the story.

There are twists and turns everywhere. Kane handles them with such skill that nothing feels forced or artificial to the plot. And before you know it, you’ll have stayed up way past your bedtime finishing the book.

And let’s talk about that ending !! Perfection, plain and simple. Please DM me if you’ve read the book!!

If you’re already a fan of Darby Kane, you’re going to want to pre-order What the Wife Knew. If you’re new to her work, now’s the perfect time to dive in and read her backlist!

Thank you to @williammorrowbooks and @netgalley for the gifted copy to read and review

This book started off great! I was hooked right away. Addison married Dr. Richmond Dougherty. She’s only with him to get revenge but someone beats her to it. Who killed Richmond before Addison could? I would say around the 50% mark, I wanted to be done with the book. I feel like this story had a lot of potential but it started getting slow and I started loosing interest really quick. I’m glad I finished it but I wouldn’t read it again.

Thank you NetGalley, Darby and William Morrow for the ARC!

Addison has one job - to take down her husband. But it seems someone else has the same idea and does it before she can.

I can't stop raving about Darby Kane's newest book, What the Wife Knew. This book was so addictive with so many secrets being revealed throughout. The twists left me agape in the best possible way. Once again, this author shows how masterful her writing is and I have no doubt this latest book of hers will be another bestseller.

I found this one to drag on a bit with a few too many twists. I found the final twist pretty predictable. It was a decent book. It wasn’t my favorite by this author.

Addison is my favorite character to come from Darby. Can she is smart, conniving, sarcastic, witty, quick on her feet and a total bad ass! I loved reading this from her POV and seeing how she has endured so much more than any person should have to and continues to stay strong and go after what she wants. This book starts with her at her husband’s funeral, just to make sure he’s dead.. and then takes us back and forth through her childhood, her meeting Richmond, her now deceased husband, and then the aftermath of his death. It is so fast paced as we unravel the story of Addison and Richmond, why they actually married and who killed him, I couldn’t put it down. I plowed through in a couple days and was so satisfied with the ending! This is definitely my favorite book of this authors, but I have loved all of them!! Preorder now!

Whew! What a rush! This book was so good. I was hooked from the first page to the last. This book held me captive with jaw dropping revelations. Everyone was a suspect and even then there were still things I never imagined. Darby Kane crafted a story that left me shaking my head as I rested my hand on my cheek. This book is definitely a must read. I can’t recommend it enough!

Thank you so much NetGalley and HarperCollins for an opportunity to reach this ARC.

Another wicked domestic thriller by Kane. I am always up for her books.
When a successful pediatric surgeon dies from falling down the stairs, his newest wife Addison is under suspicion. After all, they had only been married ninety-seven days. Now Addison has a nice home and bank account. Number one problem is she is UPSET, because she wanted him dead.
Dr. Dougherty’s ex wife Kathryn suspects Addison, she is determined to get back what she deserves.
Both these women have something to lose, so its no surprise they don’t get along and are determined to get what they want, no matter the cost.
This is a nail-biter and one I won’t forget soon. Their marriage is NOT what it seems and this one makes it so fun as you discover what is really going on.

What a twist filled domestic thriller! Darby Kane is truly a queen in this genre. What the Wife Knew was so well written and had me gripped from the very beginning, I had so many thoughts and theories but they would get thwarted with a new plot twist.

The story is written in two perspectives, the past and the present, which is one of my favorite formats to read thrillers as it keeps the reader guessing what they think they know and putting clues together. This is a book that cannot be missed!

Thank you NetGalley and Darby Kane for the ARC!

This is an amazing domestic thriller. Kept me guessing the whole time. There was always something happening and something to question. Crazy twists at the end! Loved this one!

This book was incredible. I give it a solid 5 of 5 stars. A huge thank to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review of the book.

This book was written so well. It had me guessing and coming up with theories the whole time on ‘who done it.’ The author perfectly incorporated s
SO many different possibilities and suspects for the murder of Richmond. I feel like this is a hard thing to do and keep the story on track.

I never once got bored with the story. The book stayed interesting the entire time and kept me at the edge of my seat for most of it.

The author wrote in a dual perspective in this book with past and present tense writing, dependent on the chapter and if it was overlooking the past or speaking about the present.

I very much enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading more of her work!

No one does dysfunctional families like Darby Kane. When I settle into one of her books, I know that there will be complete and total entertainment, and the What the Wife Knew is the latest example in her stellar lineup. Even the tag on the cover is epic - "Who murdered the husband that she meant to kill?" What the Wife Knew is twisty, and I loved the character of Addison. She's damaged, but she's also a fighter. The combination of past and present crimes mix together in a way that left me frantically turning pages, because I just had to know who killed Dr, Richmond Dougherty, Thank you so much for the opportunity to read early!

Darby Kane is an auto read author for me so when THE PULSE got its hands on her next release extra early, I jumped at the chance to grab a copy! What the Wife Knew was a total ride. I had absolutely no idea where it was going, what the heck was going on, or if any single character wasn’t a terrible person and total liar! I couldn’t get enough!

Richmond's death felt shady and convenient from the jump, but I couldn’t figure out if (or more importantly HOW) Addison was involved. The short marriage, immediate disdain for one another, fear on both sides, and suspicious death felt like 2 plus 2 equals chair and I loved how Kane unfolded the mystery for us.

Addison’s backstory was gripping and I liked the added layers of having her mother back in her life. The dynamics with Ezra and the investigator also kept me intrigued and totally confused!

There were moments this book gave me The Housemaid vibes and I was so here for it. Twists, turns, and so many “what the heck” moments kept me flipping pages faster and faster.

Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for the copy. This one releases December 10th and it’s not one you’re going to want to miss!

Thank you for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!!!

I've read and liked/loved all the Darby Kane books I've read so far. They tend to be tense in a way that makes them unputdownable.

I didn't dislike "What the Wife Knew," but it had a substantially different pacing from her usual books. It was pretty slow by comparison. The "Her/Him" chapter titles felt a bit cold and detached, making it hard to connect to the main characters.

While the storyline and twists are excellent, I struggle with books that contain almost exclusively unlikable characters, and this was one of those books.

I'll continue to read her future books, but this one was a miss for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Darby Kane has easily become one of my favorite mystery/thriller authors and this book was no exception.

This was definitely a slow burn with a slow revenge plot, but the payoff is absolutely worth it. Just be patient. There are so many lies, and you don't know who to believe. I really love unreliable characters as they make for the best twists.

Thank you netgalley, author and publisher for this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book is on everyone’s radar over here at @thrillerbookloversthepulse!! And after reading it, I can see why.

🔪Unreliable Characters
🔪Revenge Plot
🔪Dysfunctional Relationships
🔪TWISTS AND TURNS

I love a good revenge plot and this gave it to me! Some of the characters are unreliable and unlikeable, but I love Addison. She’s newly a widow, to her much older husband who she recently married. We see they hate each other and we soon it unravel to the reason why got married only 97 days prior to his death.
Dr. Richmond Dougherty is known as a hero for a tragic event that held place in school. He is a well known pediatric surgeon and loved in his town. After his death, his wife, the town and police are convinced Addison did it. She does know his secrets after all…..

A huge thank you to Darby Kane for the opportunity to read and review What She Knew.

Dr. Richmond Doughtery is national hero, having prevented a school shooting and saved countless lives. He’s also a renowned pediatric surgeon, saving children with surgical precision. By all accounts, Richmond is beloved by his community and his family, so when he shows up dead at the bottom of the stairs all eyes turn to his young bride, Addison. But Addison has secrets of her own, including the reason for her quickie marriage to Dr. Doughtery. Was it an act of love or a get rich quick scheme? Richmond’s first wife, Kathryn, is convinced Addison is much more than she seems and has made it her mission to figure out who killed Richmond. With both the Daughtery name and a family fortune at stake, who will be left standing when the dust settles?

This was a slow burn 🔥, but by the last few pages I could pull myself away! Hold on to your pearls, cause this book will keep you guessing until the very end.

Dr. Richardson Dougherty is dead, and Addison, his new young bride, is the focus of the investigation into his murder. Addison is angry that she didn't kill him first. And Catherine, the ex-wife, is on a mission to run Addison into the ground at any cost. In What the Wife Knew, Darby Kane takes the reader on a twisty thrill ride that will have you flying through the pages to see what happens next.
