A nasty little gem of a novel! What if you WOULD have killed your husband, but someone beat you to it? Well, then you'd be a fantastic narrator of a twisty, funny, dark story like this one. I loved Addison and her cynical yet funny and realistic outlook on her life and her marriage. There were many twists, but not too many, and the multiple points of view kept me guessing. Darby Kane is a crackling, witty writer and her characters always bring strength and humor. I can't wait to read what she writes next!

Addison didn’t marry Richmond for a happily ever after, she married him for revenge! She knows what he did twenty seven years ago, she has the evidence to prove it, and she’ll go to the police if he doesn’t do exactly what she says. Before she could get the vengeance she desperately wanted, someone killed him before she got the chance.

This book started with a strong storyline with twist after twist and I thought this would be my next 5 star read, but around the halfway point it started slowing down. I found all the characters unlikable and the big twist at the end seemed far fetched, lazy, and I felt like it didn’t tie into the beginning of the story.

It took a couple of chapters for me to settle in to this book, but I ended up really enjoying it. The narration is about an 80/20 split with 80% of the book being told from the point of view of the main character, Addison. I liked Addison; she was flawed but clearly good at heart. The storyline was engaging and there were multiple twists at the end. Some of the story felt a little underdeveloped, particularly the medical side plot, but it was still a good read.

I really enjoyed this book. My first from Darby Kane and it was pretty good. I really enjoyed the characters. The main character Addison was awesome. I loved her tone, her sarcasm and her storyline. A few other of the characters needed a bit more. They really took a back seat to the main character and were a bit cliche.

I will admit, the cover and the description in the cover did not draw me to this book. Once I started reading I was quite intrigued with the writing style and the main character's POV. Originally I thought- another domestic thriller. Rich people behaving badly. Someone cheats....however, it is a bit more than that, thankfully. The first 75% was great, the ending was average but not terrible. I do wish some of the characters were introduced a bit earlier in the book- vagueness to avoid spoilers.

Overall I enjoyed this story and would read more from this author!

Addison's new husband is dead, and while she's anything but a bereaved widow, k*lling him had been her task. Only someone else beat her to it. Now, she has to find out who committed the murder before they pin it on her.

Narrated in multiple POVs, What the Wife Knew had a strong first chapter. I really enjoyed the sarcasm and wit from the main POV, Addison, which made me chuckle a few times. I didn't care for the other POVs as much, and a few were gratuitous, in my opinion. There were a long list of characters with motives, and I thought I was in for a great whodunnit, but instead, the initial storyline lost its luster and it became chapter after chapter of the MC receiving unwanted visits from people, who might have been the suspect. Even after the main character got an improved security system installed, people were still finding ways to evade the surveillance cameras, or she was inexplicably letting them in her home.

As for the twist, I'm not a fan of twists on top of twists, and there was one part where there was a revelation, only for that information to be proven incorrect by another reveal. However, the most egregious twist was gross, and I don't know anyone who would want revenge that badly.

This was my first book by this author, and it had me hooked from the beginning. Towards the middle it started to get a little far-fetched - I love twists and there was a good one here but then it seemed like they kept coming. It was very fast-paced and easy to read in once sitting, and I really loved some of the characters and really hated others. Would definitely be interested in reading more from Darby Kane.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I thought this book sounded so good! It flips back and forth between past and present, which had me intrigued. I loved the whole getting revenge plot. I thought the end was filled with twists and turns that I did not see coming. There is just one reveal at the end that was a little too weird for me to get behind.

Really good, kept twisting and turning. Honestly, I could have done without the few chapters from Richmond's perspective. Maybe a few from Kathryn would have been cool.

Addison’s mom is the worst!!! Like she is so effed up! That ending 😱. This was a great domestic thriller about a woman who is blackmailing a doctor into marrying her for reasons unknown until later in the book. But who killed Richmond before his Wife could??

This was a really good book and it kept me guessing really the whole way through.

Addison’s husband Richmond, a prominent physician, is dead 6 months? after their wedding, and she’s disappointed that she didn’t get to ruin his life first. However, soon after his funeral the company starts showing up. Her totally irritating and obnoxious mother arrives, but Richmond’s first wife and their two children, Wyatt and Portia, become frequent visitors (since they still have the codes to get into the home). There’s also Elias, Richmond’s lawyer, although now he’s representing Addison. Other business associates and a patient’s father try to pop in too. This one started out slow for me and I’m so glad I persevered. Addison and her story were worth reading.

Five stars! Highly recommend!

Addison has been groomed by her mother since childhood to get her revenge on Richmond Dougherty. Richmond is a celebrated (very wealthy) doctor that is considered a hero for stopping the high school shooting that killed Addison’s father. However, the truth is that Richmond orchestrated the shooting and is no hero. Addison blackmails Richmond into marrying her and forking over all of his assets. When Richmond turns up dead a few months after their marriage, Addison is suspect #1. She isn’t the killer, but who is?

This book was fun and twisty, with a few great surprises. It kept me engaged throughout and I was excited to see how Kane tied it all up.

Thank you to Darby Kane, William Morrow & NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I thought the premise of What The Wife Knew was super-promising. A prominent doctor is dead. His first wife is bereft and his brand new wife is ... glad. But claims she had NOTHING to do with it. This story encompasses a lot of family drama and has a lot of twists and turns.

My main issue with it was that the main character spent most of the story trapped in her house. Other characters came to visit her, and occasionally she'd leave on a "coffee run," but I found that pretty odd.

OMG! WHAT THE WIFE KNEW by Darby Kane has so many twists and turns, especially near the end, that my head is still spinning!

Dr. Richard Dougherty is a celebrated paediatric surgeon who was a national hero 27 years ago at his high school. He married his high school sweetheart and went on to have two children. Were the losses he suffered all those years ago worth $15 million? Out of the blue he divorces sweet Kathryn and quickly marries Addison. The ‘wedded bliss’ only lasts 97 days and now Richard is dead after a fall down the stairs. This newlywed is now newly dead. The town quickly sides with Kathryn in believing that Addison was responsible for his death, after all, this is his third ‘accident’ since the wedding. As the police join in with Kathryn and the town in this thinking, Addison continues on her quest, set out long ago, to ruin Richard and his stellar reputation. You see, Addison had the goods on Richard long ago and set out to meet, marry and mangle his life.

Why did Richard hire Elias, his attorney, to look after Addison if anything were to happen to him? Who left the note of warning on the wall of her bedroom and who continues to threaten her? Why did August Christopher, Richard’s colleague, seem to disappear right after Richard’s death? What does Peter Cullen, whose son died during surgery with Richard, expect from Addison?

This novel was delightfully full of so many twists and turns that I raced through it all the while dreading that it would end. The devious mind of some authors just amazes me. How they put it all together at the end, and what an explosive ending it was! The writing was clear and concise which led to an enjoyable read. I will be anxiously awaiting Darby Kane’s next thriller.

This is my third read by Darby Kane, each one just as thrilling as the last. This is a domestic thriller that kept me turning pages. It contained twists and turns until the very end. If you are looking for a gripping read, I would recommend this one.

This was a 4.5 star read for me. This was a great read. Kane does a great job building the plot and is an incredible story teller. If you like a well-written thriller with lots of twists and unexpected turns, give What the Wife Knew a read. Don't forget to read some of her other books as well. They have all been enjoyable.

HOOK: She hated her husband and now he's dead, but while Addison is not AT ALL mad about him passing, she isn't going to take threats likely. She didn't take it from him; why would she take it from a mysterious unknown?

REVIEW: Whew, I liked this. It was different. Addison was angry, mouthy, and blunt. I love that. Learning about her kept me reading. It was a good female rage at the wheel story.

RATING: 4.5, rounded.

I'm true Darby Kane style, this twisted thriller will give you whiplash if you aren't buckled in and hanging on tight! A funeral, possibly the worst mother of all time, secrets, exes, and an ending you couldn't see coming!

Thank you NetGalley, for this uncorrected ebook ARC of 'What The Wife Knew' by Darby Kane, in exchange for an honest review - expected release date 12/10/2024

I've read most of Darby Kane's books, they're all pretty similarly written but, even so, this one was a fun read. It was entertaining and I was intrigued right up to the end. I liked Addison and the storyline flowed nicely - I really wanted to see where it went and how everything came together. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, so that was a nice surprise! Overall this was a quick and easy read!
