Another stellar entry in the series! After the events in the last book, two years have past and Jack is still tortured by the people who abused and debased him in unspeakable ways. He works for the SOS but is also hunting those demons that still haunt him. The GIM Mary is also SOS and as we are privy to it, Jack's weakness. He acts and has acted horrible to her in all their four years of knowing each other. And when we learn why, I loved how Mary didn't instantly forgive him for it. This book was all delicious angst. Both Mary and Jack have suffered in the past. Mary's upbringing with her courtesan mother and then her brutalisation that led to her death. Even poor Jack had no-one and even hid himself from his foster father Ian. I absolutely love this one.
