I follow Kacie Rose on social media and I love her content so much! When I saw she was writing a book, I couldn't have been more excited to read it. As I was reading this book, I could almost hear her voice reading it to me, which was great! I haven't listened to the audiobook of this, but I'm sure it's fantastic!
Kacie was working as a dancer in NYC when she needed a break. On a trip to Europe, she met the love of her life, an Italian chef. She's been in Italy ever since building her life and she's now engaged to Dario. Kacie has been sharing tips and ideas for traveling around Italy and has even started running group trips.
If you have a case of wanderlust or are interested in learning more about her story, this book is a must read!
You Deserve Good Gelato is a memoir of how Kacie went on her dream trip, met the love of her life and made a career out of addressing misconceptions from her move to Italy. It's entertaining, funny and poignant.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kacie Rose and DK Travel for this ARC in exchange for my honest review of You Deserve Good Gelato.
I LOVED You Deserve Good Gelato - Kacie Rose has shown up on my instagram, and when her book came out, I knew I had to read it! It did not disappoint. It is the perfect book for people interested in travel, I loved the storytelling and writing style of this book. As a big fan, I really enjoyed it, but I believe that anyone interested in travel would enjoy it. Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and DK for providing a copy to review.
What a wonderful book. Kacie is an excellent follow and a great storyteller. I loved the way she weaved her life lessons into her experiences. This was a great reminder to slow down and enjoy life but also so the things you want to do.
I found this book quite simplistic. It was really rambling and not well laid out. Some of the sentences seemed like they were written for children or teens, that is how basic they were. The ideas expressed were often repetitive and very like, face your fear/you go girl in their style. That said, I found several of her anecdotes really charming and I am happy for her. Her relationship with Dario seems great!
I follow Kacie on Instagram so I thought I would enjoy this book, but it really didn't work for me. It was very repetitive and self-help-y. Her voice and her story are drowned by the advice she is trying to give. I would rather have had this book be a straight memoir than travel/advice book. I think the editor did her a disservice here.
Thanks to DK Eyewitness Travel for the digital copy. All opinions are my own.
Fun read about moving to Italy by herself and the highs and lows of living in a new place! Having never been to Italy, I really enjoyed the descriptions of daily life there.
Thank you Netgalley and DK Eyewitness Travel for the ARC!

This memoir was not my cup of gelato :-(
I think this author has good things to say but I must not be the target audience because I found myself saying "well, yeah,.." a lot. The advice she has derived from her experiences isn't ground-breaking, and her writers' voice is so meager, I had a hard time finding anything for myself here.
Maybe she's the next Emma Stone (not likely) and I am missing out on an opportunity to throw my hat into the race to support her, but FOMO isn't a motivator for me, so really, this isn't either.
Until Next Time,
MC

Kacie Rose's long-anticipated first gelato experience was not a good one, but fortunately she persevered and not only found good gelato, but also the love of her life.
This memoir focuses on "doing the sh*t that scares you," as the author did by first traveling solo to Italy, then embarking a long-distance relationship the turned first into a New York-based relationship and then in 2021, an Italy-based relationship. As she built her brand a social influencer/travel advisor while adjusting to life in a different country where she struggled with the language, Kacie overcame many hurdles which she unflinchingly shares with considerable humor. This was a fun read which fed my Italy obsession. #YouDeserveGoodGelato #NetGalley
I love books about Italy, and read them every chance I get. That being said, this book was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, I enjoyed the parts about actually living in Italy, the culture, the customs, the to-do's and not-to-do's. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the "exuberant cheerleader" sections of the book. A mish-mash of "you got this" and "don't be afraid to fail" advice that fell flat for me. I wondered if the author had a few too many expressos while writing it. It was like she was talking a mile a minute, not finishing one thought before diving head long into the next. Curious, I looked her up on social media. Low and behold, she writes the same way she talks! Fast, rambling, stream of consciousness speech. It actually made me like her a bit more, she's definitely authentic. I wish her well in her future endeavors.
Pollyanna. Basic, nothing advice: "Failure can be the best thing that happens to us!" "It's hard being in an uncomfortable situation, but it makes us grow!" "I'm so glad I went through x y z difficult experience!" "All situations have an upside if you look hard enough!"
EYE ROLL. The entire book is like this. It's extremely pollyanna. However, the author seems like a very kind person who would be fun and a good friend.
“I began to truly understand that there was so much more the world had to offer than just the small bubble … I had grown accustomed to.”
I have long followed Kacie on instagram and it’s so funny but I could hear her voice as I read the story. I really loved the story of Kacie and Dario first meeting and the backstory to her booking her flight to Italy. I also love that she acknowledges her privilege of traveling as a straight white woman!
I think my favorite aspects of the book were about Italian culture and especially how Italians take time to deeply enjoy life and slow down. I absolutely saw myself when Kacie wrote about hustle culture and how fast paced Americans, especially NY’ers can be. It was a nice reminder to slow down. My second favorite aspect was the reminder that we can’t let fear stop us from doing things just because they are scary. As her story proves, great things can live on the other side of our comfort zones.
I don’t generally read books like this as they can sometimes come off as preachy but I genuinely enjoyed the read.
My one issue with the book were the Harry Potter references. They are unneeded, we as a society have move past the collective need to talk about HP when the author has proved to be a hateful bigot and the books are 20+ years old, I think newer references would be more appropriate.

Because, at the end of the day, we all want the same things: good food, love happiness, and laughter. The road to achieving them might just look a little different to each of us-- and that is an extraordinarily beautiful, unifying thing.
With her trademark warmth and humor, Kacie Rose's YOU DESERVE GOOD GELATO tackles the fears and misconceptions of living abroad-- as well as shed light on all the wonderful things that can happen if you're willing to take the leap.
Part memoir and part self-help, Rose chronicles her journey from deciding to take a solo trip to Italy to living in Florence and running her own travel business (which is very girl-boss of her)-- with the many twists and turns and bumps along the way. As a person who loves to travel, often solo, and dreams of living abroad, this felt like the perfect book for me at the perfect time.
As someone who moved across the Atlantic Ocean when I was 23 years old to be with my love, and as someone who has been following Kacie on TikTok for years, I was ecstatic to receive the ARC for You Deserve Good Gelato!
While I love Kacie’s story and love listen to her talk, her writing voice is not quite established yet. The book felt a bit like rambling at times, some sentences were so long, that by the time I got to the end of it, I had already forgotten the beginning.
I would have loved a whole book on just Kacie’s experiences, sometimes it felt like the book was not quite sure if it was supposed to be self-help or a retelling of her life in Italy.
All in all, if you love Kacie, Italy, and stories about living abroad, this may be the book for you!
This book has the best title! And, that title really drew me in, because I love Italy (and gelato). I discovered that this book is half about living and traveling in Italy and half self-help/inspirational guide. Both have their merits, although the mixture here didn’t always work. I’d recommend this book to people who are young and need some motivation—especially if being a social media influencer is their goal—and to people who want to go to Italy. While it is interesting to read about other people who have encountered similar experiences in Italy, like learning the language and navigating the post office, I found much of this book too basic for me. I spent too much time skimming past explanations of simple things, like Italian coffee culture, and this is why I’d recommend this for readers who have not spent a lot of time there. It really wasn’t the right book for me, but I hope that other readers like it. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and provide an honest review.
I enjoyed this. It really seems like the author wanted to come across as a real person and I believe she accomplished this. I felt the connection she was making and reading it felt a lot like talking to an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile. She shares stories that caused her all of the emotions from sheer joy to utter humiliation and that made her a relatable narrator. Definitely worth the read.
"You Deserve Good Gelato" by Kacie Rose is a delightful and inspiring memoir that chronicles her move from New York City to Italy. As a fan of Kacie's social media journey, I found this book a perfect escape for anyone experiencing wanderlust. Kacie's vivid storytelling lets you live vicariously through her adventures, from cultural shocks to the slower pace of Italian life. Her candid reflections on overcoming fears, accepting help, and dealing with homesickness are both relatable and motivational. This memoir is filled with personal essays and inspirational quotes that encourage stepping out of your comfort zone. Highly recommended!
This book is what it sets out to be, a sort of inspiration with examples from Kacie's life to encourage the reader to go out of their comfort zone, try things, and grab life by the horns a bit. It was a very enjoyable read, with some funny anecdotes. But it also was too predictable and simple and essentially can be boiled down into its subtitle. For some people, this will be the key to helping them get the courage. But for others, it will be missing the depth or a more intense reflection on what it means to change your life and surroundings.
I thoroughly thank NetGalley for the ARC and opportunity to read this book.
I follow this author on social media and love her content. This was a great NF/self-help read. It’s not condescending like some self help books are but it’s empowering while still being funny. A great read!!
