Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross fulfills all of your vampire thriller needs!
This year’s Garlic Groove Music Festival in Allium Valley will be to DIE for! The drought that has decimated the town’s garlic harvest will hit them in more than their revenue stream. Garlic isn’t only for cooking in this rural haven, it’s also the main ingredient for their continued safety.
As night descends the screams of the crowd go from jubilant to terrified as festival goers are massacred by an unknown threat.
A group of friends, a creepy rural town, and an ancient curse hunting them one by one. Can Alix and her new, mysterious (and hot) friend Kade, keep everyone safe or will the vampires finally win?
Vampires and a music festival? Sign me up!
Alix and her friends are having a blast attending the Garlic Groove musical festive in Allium Valley, the garlic capital of the world. But all of a sudden they find theirselves fighting for their lives when the small town is suddenly taken over by murderous vampires.
This was SUCH a fun book! The funky music festival vibe drew me in and the action of the apocalyptic vampire-run theme kept me reading.
The character growth was phenomenal. In the beginning, Alix is a shallow sorority sister who literally says “what’s better than being seen as pretty? It’s the hallmark of how important you are.” Once the vampires take over, she changes her tune real fucking quick and focuses on keeping herself and her friends safe and alive. Even though she’s already an adult, she grew and matured a lot throughout the book.
Once the vampires were introduced, I did see the plot twist coming from a mile away. But I don’t think it was supposed to be this big reveal, because it was hinted at quite a bit. Instead of feeling disappointed I figured it out, I was excited for it to be revealed to Alix to see how it would all play out.
I also really appreciated the animal cruelty aspect of this book. It’s something a lot of people are ignorant about, including Alix, and she obviously starts to feel differently when she’s treated as we treat slaughterhouse animals.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this. It was a fun and quick read. Huge thanks to Netgalley and Rektok Ross for this arc!
I was hooked from the beginning, I read 30% of it in one sitting and completed it the next morning that is how good it was. I’m a sucker for thriller books and vampire books and to mix the two was perfect. The vampire aspect also had a unique twist to it that I’ve never read before and that was so so refreshing! I wanted more from this after it ended and I'm so so sad that (as far as I know) this is just a standalone! Coachella meets The Vampire Diaries seems to be the main consensus but, I've never read or watched TVD so what came to mind more for me was a mix of Coachella and The Walking Dead... even though it's vampires.
I highly recommend this if you like thrillers, books about vampires, and books with a main character that make you want to strangle them while simultaneously hoping they make it to the end. It's always nice to have main characters that aren't just perfect at everything.
Alix is hot, newly single, and ready to have an amazing time at a small town music festival with her friends for spring break. She meets a mysterious hottie who seems weirdly prone to her charms and it unsettles her a bit. After all she’s not used to being rejected. However she is determined to enjoy her break and let loose. But all of that gets put on hold when unspeakable horrors break out. Does she have what it takes to survive?
Thank you Netgalley, Rektok, and the publisher for sending me this copy of the eARC to review!
I truly loved this book, It grips you from page one and doesn't give you a chance to put it down.
From the first page there is always SOMETHING more you need to know and with a satisfying ending it was everything you want in a book

Rektok Ross does it again with Spring Harvest.
I picked up Summer Rental as my first book by this author, and fell in love. Great writing, fast-paced plot, and the ability to make you question everyone at every step, Rektok Ross does a phenomenal job of writing thrillers that leave a mark.
Spring Harvest is marketed as Coachella meets the Vampire Diaries, and it is so spot on, I dare say it's perfect.
Alix and her friends are on their way to the Garlic Groove Musical Fest, and while there's some tension within the friend group because Alix dumped Logan, they're all determined to have a good time together. A warning from a local does nothing to stop them from carrying on, but it really, really should have. With the garlic sparse this year, a group of vampires seize the opportunity to attack the very festival Alix and her friends are attending.
This book was so much fun to read. You get a perfect mix of gore, violence, vampires, and tension, mystery, and drama. It's fast paced, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and has you questioning each character at every turn. It's one of the best mashups of vampires and thrillers I've read ever.
Big thank you to Victory Editing and Netgalley for the e-arc!
Release April 30
I read SUMMER RENTAL in 2023 and was over the top about it. Here again is author Rektok Ross's talent for unexpected, heart-in-throat action scenes, scares, convolutions, and peeling layers from her characters to reveal whom they truly are. Additionally she is noted for using a "natural" event, a disaster, and spinning it to come out with something way more terrifying than the mundane pragmatic terrors. In SUMMER RENTAL it was a Hurricane, here a longstanding Drought, destroying what is normally a productive harvest--with terrifying consequences. Suspension of disbelief is essential to this Paranormal novel and comes easily. The implacability of the Horror and the impossibility of containing it to a small area really ramps up the extent of the Terror.
.5 rounded down.
This was fun! I just found the plot twists to be fairly obvious (outside of one). Maybe the hints weren’t supposed to be subtle.
The main character Alix was so insufferable for so long it was hard to put up with her. I get why that choice was made but it worked a little too well at times 😂
Get set for a spine-tingling experience with Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross. Alix and her crew are all pumped up for a weekend of music, laughter, and freedom at the Garlic Groove Music Festival. But as they shrug off the warnings of the enigmatic local, little do they know that their plans for fun are about to take a hair-raising turn.
Suddenly, the festival grounds become the battleground for a terrifying showdown with bloodthirsty vampires, turning their weekend getaway into a fight for survival. With danger closing in and trust in short supply, Spring Harvest becomes a gripping tale of courage, camaraderie, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Ross's knack for weaving suspense and heart-pounding action makes Spring Harvest an unputdownable read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. So buckle up and get ready for a rollercoaster ride of thrills and chills that you won't soon forget.
Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross was an enjoyable and fun read that hooked me immediately.
This vampire thriller and the vivid descriptions, the pacing, and the plot was so well done.
I couldn’t read this story fast enough.
Thank You NetGalley and Victory Editing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Spring Harvest is the bloody vampire novel of the season!!
Spring Harvest is marketed as Coachella meets "The Vampire Diaries" and this is such a good description for this story. Alix, our heroine, is attending a music festival with her friends when everything goes horribly wrong. This story tapped into a very realistic fear of mine. Emergencies that happen at larger music festivals are slightly terrifying. The sheer amount of people vs. the ability to get to safety is just such a terrifying concept for me to imagine.
This story is a fast-paced thriller that I could not put down. It starts off with action and Rektok Ross ensures that that same level of action is kept up throughout the whole story. There were plenty of twists and turns and reveals that had me furiously flipping pages to find out more. I genuinely think readers are going to really enjoy this one! The ending did feel a big rushed, but I am absolutely hopeful that this could turn into a series perhaps. I need to know more!!
Check out Spring Harvest and prepare your garlic!
This book had me at vampires and a party weekend at a festival! My only issue with this book was I didn't want it to end...and the ending may have left things open for a sequel? The ending was satisfying though. I loved the FMC, Alix, and this book was very fast paced and entertaining! I need more from this author, as this is the second book I have read of hers!
Alix is beautiful, confident, and newly single. She is looking forward to the party weekend with her friends at the Garlic Groove Musical Festival. The festival turns into chaos though and the town’s secret is revealed: bloodthirsty vampires.
Once you start this one, you won’t put it down until the end. It’s fast paced and entertaining, with some very likeable (and unlikeable) characters. There’s a romance in it as subplot and it worked well for me. This would make a great young adult book; I could see myself as an adolescent with a slight obsession with this book. The ending was left open for a series , but not open enough to be frustrating.
“It’s yet another hurdle in this twisted game of life and death that we’ve all been thrust into. And this is a game I’m not about to lose”
Spring Harvest comes out 4/30.
I really enjoyed the plot of this book. A group of college-age kids, going to an indie music festival off in bum tuck, or rather a small farming town Allium Valley . There was a lot to love about this book, the setting was perfect and had the best creepy vibes. You should always listen to the locals when they warn you away from a place. Chances are if you go in you aren't coming out. The only thing that I didn't immediately love was Alix. She is bratty and self-absorbed and is pretty mean to one of the girls. However, she did begin to grow on me, especially after the first attack I guess we could call it. She shows another side of herself that I could really root for.
The story itself was gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see who if anyone was going to make it out alive.
Really good read. A steady story that keeps you captivated. Totally not what I expected but enjoyed it anyway. Would recommend reading.
Spring Harvest by Rektok Ross is unapologetically ridiculous and fun with survival horror elements. It’s Coachella meets Salem’s Lot with a sprinkling of Tender is the Flesh.
Alix and her friends take a road trip to attend the Garlic Groove Music Fest, an alternative to Coachella with less crowds and better indie bands not to mention their famous garlic infused foods. But when they get there the garlic infused concert fare is scarce due to a poor harvest and a sudden freak accident involving a slashed throat sours the mood.
I’m a sucker for a Rektok Ross book because they are always such a good time. This time especially I loved the horror movie nods. The rural location and cannibalistic vibes reminded me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and elements of the themes explored reminded me a little of Tender is the Flesh. The characters were flawed and fun and I enjoyed following them as they tried to survive what was happening. This is a fast paced read that you won’t want to put down. Perfect for the summer.
Also I kind of love that there is a semi shared universe in these books and the subtle nod to her other books Ski Weekend and Summer Rental. You don’t need to have read these books as they are all stand alone stories but maybe check them out because they are also really quite fun! It’s wild thinking vampires exist in this same universe and I’m excited for the next book.
If you are looking for a fun read with survival horror vibes in a rural setting, a little romance, and vampires this is a really great time.
Thank you very much to NetGalley and the publisher. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a thrilling ride of horror mixed with thrills! We start with a group of college aged friends who are off to a music festival in a town known for growing lots of garlic. What seems like a free spirited vacation goes haywire when a bunch of shredded bodies turn up at the music festival and the surrounding area. Enter the vampires, my friends!
I enjoyed the story overall but the main character, Alix, was really quite catty and I feel like that detracted from the story a lot. One of my biggest problems with her is that she ridiculed another female at least twice for eating candy and a slice of pizza. In this day and age, criticizing people's bodies and diet is not going to be well received overall. Alix also demanded that that same character do her hair and makeup. And she dumped her boyfriend of 1 year (who happened to be on the trip with her) because he told her that he'd like to marry her someday. Honestly, her character was so unlikeable at the beginning of the book that it made it hard to appreciate her character arc and redemption story at the end.
That being said, this story was paced really well and I was on the edge of my seat more often than not. The book's ending was left very open ended and while some people may like that, it didn't resolve enough for me. I couldn't tell if it was a cliffhanger or just a nebulous end to the story.
Thank you to Victory Editing Net Galley co-op for an arc and the opportunity to review this book.
This was great! I loved how it didn’t take long to get into it. And it truly was fast paced, kept me in the edge of my seat. Lots of parts played out like a movie in my head. Even though I knew early on both of the “twists”, I really loved watching them be revealed. (
Vampires take over Burningman
As this book is categorized as Adult Fiction, I'd give Spring Harvest 2.5 stars. I feel that this book reads as more of a Young Adult novel and if it was aimed at that audience it could easily be a 4 star book. I think the characters are very relatable to readers in their mid to late teens as the characters themselves are college kids. Whereas I felt that their actions and dialogue were often immature and annoying, they would probably seem exciting and brave to a younger demographic.
Thank you to Victory Editing for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

3.5 stars for Spring Harvest. The comparison of Coachella meats vampire diaries is spot on. Alix and her friends only expected to have a fun weekend at the Garlic Groove music festival, but instead winds caught up in a towns dark history and have to fight to survive and escape.
Rektok does a great job of keeping you engaged and wanting to keep reading, with twist and turns happening often enough to keep you guessing. You grow to care about the main friend group and side characters too. Alix's characters grows on you from being kind of bratty and self absorb to the person your rooting for to survive the most. Kade's character keeps you guessing if he a good guy or not up until the end and makes you wish you had your own mysterious bad boy of your own.
Overall it is a good read and I will definitely be checking out more of Rektok's books.
Thanks Netgalley, Ic13 books and Rektok for the arc!
