Amigurumi Loveys & Blankets
I absolutely loved this guide! Not only does it have some really adorable patterns for cute blankets and loveys for the little ones in your life, there’s great tips and tricks about crocheting and amigurumi creation in general that I can take into my crocheting ahead. I’ve been crocheting for about 10 years and have used lots of different patterns, and found these to be really easy to follow and read.
Each pattern gives clear indications of the supplies you’ll need, including the hooks, yarn, needles, stuffing, etc. They also all have pictures to gauge your progress by, so you can make sure your creations end up looking the way they should to match the pattern. The stitches used throughout the patterns are all explained with thorough written and pictorial explanations in the beginning. To be even more helpful if you get stuck, there’s a QR code on each pattern with a video guide link!
The obvious effort put into making the patterns easily readable for anyone, including a very beginner, is a big plus - I am putting this on my list for possible gifts to give friends in the future! I would feel comfortable handing this to a beginner with a small kit to start and know they would be able to get through a pattern, especially with all the help available.
The pictures are really bright and the items are shown on clean, bright backgrounds, making the colorful blankets and loveys themselves really pop and pull your eye to the beautiful patterns. The photography in this book, I would say, is a definite strong suit and adds a lot to the patterns and guides.
The little details added to the blankets and loveys really set them apart from other patterns of a similar type I have seen. For example, the princess frog lovey has an adorable surrounding skirt of springtime flowers, making it such an adorable little detail to add to a nursery and something so cute and loveable for a child. Even the holiday blanket pattern has a snowflake detail that really adds to the overall effect.
The lamb lovey may just become my go-to baby shower gift! Loved these patterns. Looking forward to making more of them!

Many years ago when I was taught crochet, you'd never find many of today's hottest patterns, including amigurumi. But it's still the same stitches with some user friendly yarns to help with the look and feel. AMIGURUMI Loveys and Blankets is a wonderful book to gift those looking to learn this craft. The patterns arre clear and easy to follow. The completed project looks amazing and will make someone you love happy. Easily a 5 star experience.
As a crocher doll maker I always interesting to see modification from basic doll become something practical for daily use. Amigurumi Loveys and Blankets offer cute alternatif to combine a
doll bodypart with comfy baby blanket. All 16 projects are adorable and I am sure my fellow crochet enthusiast would love to make one or 20!
The book includes basic crochet material, tools and stitches. All the pattern is clear and do able. The material choices for baby and children's little bit tricky expecially for sensitive children so make sure maker choosing well. Type of yarns also can alter the size of the snuggle blanket. I personally mesmerized with details of the dragon design. I also prefer crochet eyes more than safety doll eyes for baby/younger children for safety reason because yarn tendency to loosen overtime.
Thank you Netgalley and Landauer Publishing from Fox Chapel Publishing for providing copy of this ebook. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Expecting Publication : 14 May 2024
On NetGalley I try to look for something new in my hobby of crochet. Of course I came across this book. I already know the designer and have a few of her designs. So let’s see where she goes with this.
It did not disappoint me with just showing her patterns. In the introduction there was so much detail in explaining the whole process of bringing her designs together, and I loved the notes through out helping to get to the finished project . Any problems for construction is clearly addressed in the introduction. As for the project instructions, they are simple and detailed.
I am always looking for things to make for a silent auction or a penny social, as well as something to accommodate a book to go with it. These patterns are the perfect gifts for what I do.
Thank you NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.
I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
I loved the dragon and frog blankets and loveys the most but this whole book is a beginner friendly book for anyone wanting to make a special blanket or toy for a little one. I would highly recommend this book and I would love to own a copy for myself.
"I thought this was really well written and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I think it will find readers at our library, so we will definitely be purchasing for the collection.
Amigurumi Loveys and Blankets by Ariana Wimsett is a brilliant book especially if you love creating adorable Animal Projects to Crochet and Snuggles. This book has 16+ of them and I have created 2. a giraffe and the bunny for easter for my great niece. These are easy to follow with great instructions and beautiful illustrations on every page.
The 2 I made, was a joy to make and to see my great niece and great nephews faces just melted my heart.........
This book includes crochet basics and 18 amazing animals - giraffe, sloth, bear, fox, horse, bunny, ram, dragon, prince frog, Christmas reindeer and a must book to have in our growing collection especially if you love creating new snuggle blankets for small children. These will make great gifts for them to play and snuggle up too.
I loved this book and I know I will enjoy creating more of these especially the Sloth, or the Fox, Or the Bear..........I can see I will make them all!!!
Better go and buy some more Yarn!!!!
More Yarn!!! I hear my Husband shout!!!
A clear, concise instructional on how to crochet and create small creature blankets.
The best part of this book is the brightly lit and easy to see photographs. Everything from the details on the patterns to bi-color instructions on how to do basic stitches was so easy to see.
What instructions were given were very easy to read. I would have preferred the author give instructions on how to do an invisible decrease as well as as the basic decrease given. Also, there is a section about yarn choices but doesn't mention the fact that many children, especially babies and toddlers, are sensitive to certain natural fabrics like wool. This, along with price and availability, is why acrylic yarns are often preferred when making baby blankets and similar items.
My favorite patterns were for the Ram, Dragon, and Reindeer blankets/loveys. All of the patterns use the same bases for head, body, and legs but the additions of wings, horns, and antlers was perfect.
I love this book! It does a great job of explaining and depicting all of the stitches at the beginning in case you’re not used to reading patterns, and the ideas are so cute! Perfect gift for little ones.
The designs in this book are absolutely beautiful and so cute. My favourites are the Christmas reindeer blanket and the lilypad frog blanket. I liked that these projects were accessible for a wide range of skill levels and that the skill levels were clearly indicated. The instructions included at the front of the book were very clear and I liked that conversion charts were included for the different yarn weights as well as hook sizes as this is something I sometimes find confusing and it is then incredibly frustrating to be trying to do a project with the wrong yarn.
Overall the designs in this book are stunning and the patters are clearly laid out with plenty of progress photos making this a great crochet book!
This book has some adorable ideas! I love that every step is broken down with an image to show how to create these lovely items. I need a visual when crocheting, so books don't usually work, but this one is so detailed. I also love the idea of some blankets simply being alone without the animals. It's very versatile in that way. I will be making a blanket for my cat as soon as possible!
Amigurumi Loveys & Blankets by Ariana Wimsett
Even though I have been crocheting since childhood, I learnt a lot more in my adulthood and along with friends. I come from the 90's where, the internet still wasn't the mode of reference. We picked up our hobbies from mothers and grandmothers. I was no different. I was totally taken by the sheer feel of those doilies that my grandmother made free hand. She had simple ideas but the work was exemplary.
My friends were better risk takers. I was crippled by the fact of ripping up a project. Ask any crafter and they will tell you that the worst feeling is ripping apart a project after finding a mistake or just not getting the instructions right. I just could not bring myself to do amigurumi. Until, I took a bold plunge. I cannot now look back! Amigurumi has flooded my life like nothing else could!
So, when this book came up for review on NetGalley, I could not stay away from it. This colourful book has eight animal baby blankets and eight matching animal loveys.
The book has beautiful pictures and instructions in great detail. I loved the section on how to read a pattern. Crochet terminology can be vague and confusing and this section is a must read for newbies to amigurumi.
The Ram and Giraffe are the cutest. It would be great to have a copy of this book as you start your amigurumi journey.
This was too cute. This would be great as a gift or to make gifts. I loved that it had both the cuddle and blanket versions of each adorable animal. One of my (unexpected) favorite parts of this book were the stitched eyes. Most I’ve seen only have the hard safety eye option but I loved that this gave a way to do the stitched version. And they were supper cute!
I had a crocheter in mind when I spotted this book! Soooo cute! If you enjoy crochet and are up to the challenge of creating these for littles in your life, you will love this book. The projects are adorable and the kiddies will have new snugglies to snuggle with. Being all thumbs when id comes to needle cradle (needle craft is the right word I think,,,) I am envious of all the fun things one can make out of yarn.. This book has many projects, and as far as I can tell, complete instructions for creating them. Make a great gift for a crocheter! Photos are wonderful.
I thank Netgalley for the ARC of the book 'Amigurumi Loveys and Blankets: 16 Adorable Animal Projects to Crochet and Snuggle' by Ariana Wimsett.
The book has a delightful collection of adorable animal crochet patterns, which I think is perfect for beginners. The instructions are clear with a section devoted to materials required, fundamental stitches, and guidance on how to read patterns. The animal patterns are well-written and accompanied by QR codes linking to helpful videos, which I think is very helpful.
Exactly the type of book I was looking for. Very easy to follow along. The patterns were very well written. And I had no issues making some of these. I love the patterns and they all look so cute!
I really enjoyed this book. I've been looking for something similar to help expand my skills and this was absolutely perfect to achieve my goals.
A wonderful book with beautiful and colourful patterns to inspire crocheters. I’m grateful to NetGalley for a digital copy and am looking forward to buying the book to add to my crochet book collection.
Cute patterns in bright colour bound to attract the eye of any child. Simple easy to follow instruction that are really quick to make. Easy to make while watching TV. I’ve made a dozen for my local Hospice.
Crochet is definitely a hot trend and anything to do with amigurumi - the art of cute crochet as I like to thin of it - is as well, and Wimsett capitalizes on both of these things in her book. At the same time, she takes something that is pretty standard in the form of baby blankets and really gives them life. Some of the blankets are pretty impressive, especially in how they drape over a crib railing. I did wonder about having an animal head right where baby is sleeping, but given that you usually remove all bedding, I am going to say that these blankets are more for non-crib sleep time.
The loveys are also cute, although I have to admit that these types of things kind of creep me out because they are very much a blanket with limbs and kind of odd to me. But I know many kids love them. Hence the name.
The instructions on how to crochet and to introduce the basics are clear and cover a lot of ground. Still learning to crochet myself, but the explanations were good and worked well to walk a beginner through the basics. I also appreciate that starting with blankets - flat items - is probably easier than jumping straight into a magic ring that you need to count stitches for.
All of the patterns are cute. Some are nicer than others. I adored the dragon blanket - not so much the lovey - and was a bit meh on the Christmas reindeer as a whole. But there is definitely something for everyone. And all of the blankets have different skill levels so you can work on the easier ones to start and build to the dragon.
If you are learning to crochet and want to try making baby blankest as gifts that are a bit more than the traditional blanket, this book would serve you well.
