Thank you for providing me with an egalley of this book to read and give an honest review.
I love a good love story. And I love a good love story that involves sports. I'm not a baseball fan, but that's not a problem because it's just the theme of sports that I love. This one was not an easy ride, though. Lots of bumps, ruts, emotional roller coaster events. But this is what made it enjoyable to read.
You want damage and angsty romance, this is it.
The pacing is good, though not as gripping and intense as I would have liked. Definitely kept me interested in continuing to read. I wanted things to come faster, but I know the slow burn of a story is often a better way to keep people emotionally invested. Own did this!
Tally is a great character. She grows so much. Like a phoenix, out of the ashes. Her determination is what helps her grow. It brings her strength and helps her persevere. Lincoln did not grow as much, in my opinion. And their age difference when the book started bothered me. Not sure I'd be ok with that in reality, but who knows.
Overall this one was just ok for me. I wanted to love it but overall it wasn't such a different story from what I've seen in angsty romance.
I found this book really good in the beginning, It was engaging and kept my interest, but towards the middle of the book, it seemed to flat line a little bit?
Well written and fast paced, just something not quite right.
The opening to the book is gut-wrenching and the level of angst is high throughout the book. Ms. Owen has written a dark gritty *love* story although at times, it feels like it's way too drawn out. I get it, Tally and Linc had a unbelievable hookup that affects them to their core, but that fact keeps getting pounded into the reader at every turn. I did read this book to the end to find out how it ends and did enjoy it, but I couldn't wait to get to the last page.
