Forbidden Obsessions may not be a stand-out novel, but if you want a change from the usual BDSM plotlines this is a good book to pick-up. The heroine had no initial interest in the BDSM world, and her exposure to it would never have occurred if it were not for the fact she is recuperating from a debilitating injury. Most books of this genre that I have read previously generally involve a healthy main character who is questioning their sexual preferences, so this made for an intriguing change.
The story is occasionally a bit too quick, making mere mentions of what could have been its own scene. Namely that of Olivia’s growth as a character. We did not really see the middle steps between her initial fears and her overcoming them; she started at one end of the spectrum and then just jumped to the other side. So while the story says Olivia changed, it does not feel like it to the reader as we were not experience to the process with her.
However, the timeline for the emotional connection between these protagonists is great. Trust is a big deal in a dom/sub relationship and, in this book, even that took time rather than being an unlikely immediate giving. The main characters make an effort to get to know each other as people, and you know they will be taking more time to discover each other’s limits after the story’s end. Gabe and Olivia both seem like well-rounded people ,while their emotional baggage provides some obstacles, the two play off each other well, thus making them a good match readers will root for both as individuals and as a couple.
Thank you for the opportunity to read Forbidden Obsessions. I no longer read the erotica genre of romance and decided to not download this title before it was archived in October 2013. I did not read nor plan to read this title
