Complete Starter Guide to Needle Felting: Enchanted Forest is an absolute delight for both beginners and experienced crafters. This book strikes the perfect balance between being a practical guide and a source of whimsical inspiration.
The step-by-step instructions are clear and easy to follow, making the sometimes-daunting art of needle felting approachable for newcomers. The photography is stunning, capturing every detail of the enchanting projects and sparking creativity at every turn.
What sets this guide apart is its imaginative theme. The "Enchanted Forest" concept immerses readers in a world of magical creatures, woodland scenes, and charming details. Each project feels like a tiny masterpiece, and the storytelling element adds an extra layer of charm that makes crafting even more enjoyable.
The author does a fantastic job of explaining techniques, recommending materials, and sharing tips to achieve the best results.
What a wonderful look into a wool felted enchanted forest.
I am especially interested in making the Gnome Garland.
This book has four main sections: supplies, techniques, projects and templates. The beginning section has great information on types of wool, needles (shapes, sizes and what they are good for), and where to get supplies.
Each project has a supply list and a series of step by step photos to guide you to completion. Templates for shape and size are found in back of book along with index of projects, tools and techniques.
I recommend this book for those new to felting and also those looking for new ideas. So much of what we have now is online - this book would indeed be a great physical book to have in a crafting library.
A great resource! My daughter and I had a lot of fun using this book to learn and create! I highly recommend this book
This was a really neat intricate book on needle felting. It helps if you have a background in needle felting but I think a beginner could use this too. I’m more of a beginner and I found the book very helpful.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Complete Starter Guide to Needle Felting: Enchanted Forest is a beautiful book perfect for beginners like me. What drew me to this book was the adorable needle felt figures on the cover, and I was fascinated to see how they were made.
The book begins with an introduction and is followed by some useful information on the types of tools and supplies you'll need to use the book. This is followed by techniques, which I was surprised by as I didn't realise how many techniques there could be to do needle felting. The projects had simple, easy to follow instructions accompanied by photographs. I really want to have a go at the mushroom family on Mossy Hill, the unicorn foal, the happy gnome, and the woodland fairies. The templates included at the back are easy to use and very useful for projects in and outside of the book as you progress.
OMG! I am absolutely in love with this book—it's a cuteness overload!
As a crafter always looking for new projects, needle felting has been on my radar, and Complete Starter Guide to Needle Felting: Enchanted Forest didn't disappoint.
This book covers everything you need to get started, from tools to techniques. Its step-by-step instructions and accompanying photographs make it perfect for visual learners.
Each project is beautifully laid out, easy to navigate, and enjoyable to explore. I'm especially excited to try the finger puppet project—they are too adorable!
Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing | Landauer Publishing for providing me with an e-book ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Felting Fantasy
Loved this book. Lovely clear information and instructions and starting with easier projects and gradually moving to more difficult ones to help build skill and confidence. The step by step photos are really good as they show you how much wool and the type of tools and techniques to use. These would be useful whatever project you’re working on. I hope Claudia has a book on projects for Christmas, and if not will look at producing one.
Really good book for needle felters.
I was given this book from the author via netgalley only for the pleasure of reading and leaving an honest review should I choose to.
This book has pretty clear pictures. It doesn't feel like an absolute beginner book. I would have liked more about how to do the actual stabbing part.
I really want to needle felt!!! This was a book on a hobby that I didn’t know about: and it really broke down the entire process. I think I could do it, and it looks so fun.
As a perpetual crafter for some reason I've been intimidated by needle felting. This book has not only made me feel more confident in the process I've already stated making a few gifts for friends and have many more planned.
3.5 stars
The book starts with a starter guide with general needle-felting tips. It mentions the types of wool and other materials one might need. I do feel like it's lacking a bit more information on the writing itself, such as which angles to use and how firm the works should be.
The rest of the book contains clear step-by-step instructions with plenty of pictures. I did feel like a few were a little rushed by not taking the time to show the final result at the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Landauer Publishing for giving me access to this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
If you are wanting to get started in needle felting or already have started but want to learn more or try some new projects this is a fantastic book to do so!
The book starts off with an introduction, information on supplies & techniques to get you started. After that it moves into all the different projects. Each project has a list of supplies, information about the project itself and the steps along with many images to help guide you through the project. For me as someone who is new to this, the steps with an image for each step is amazing! I am a visual person and having those images there is huge for me. Without them I would have been lost. The projects themselves are really cute as well. I feel like the images on the cover give a good presentation of the woodland projects inside the book!
I haven't actually tackled any of the projects yet since I do need more tools to do so but did a lot of reading and feel confidant that I can get started making these cute little woodland creatures when I am ready by using this book!
I initially requested this book because the projects seemed fun and charming. It’s the first book I’ve read on needle felting and I’m glad I started with this one. As someone who’s fairly amateur at the craft of needle felting, I expected this to be somewhat helpful. Instead, I was thoroughly impressed with how each project built on what I learned in the previous one and taught a different tip or technique that I never learned from the kits I’ve bought or YouTube videos I’ve watched. Each project has clear, concise instructions that include great step-by-step photos. I can’t wait to actually put the instructions into practice.
Complete Starter Guide to Needle Felting: Enchanted Forest
Fairies, Gnomes, Unicorns, and Other Woodland Friends
by Claudia Lenart
I have picked up several books on felting over the last couple of years and this one is certainly a top notch one for beginners! That's me!
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book!
This has everything a beginner needs. There is the supply list, (don't forget the finger protection), templates for each little project, tips and hints, then the step by step instructions for each of the the projects with a picture or two to go with it.
The darling little projects just sucked me in and I wanted to go buy more felting supplies. I am glad this is a cheap hobby! I wanted to make some of the projects in different colors. The projects include little animals like foxes, birds, unicorns, and more. There's fairies, mushrooms, and others totaling 20 projects. This one book will keep a person busy as you learn. Highly recommend for beginner's book. Enjoyable to look at and to use!
This is the exact kind of book I’ve been looking for, to add to my needle felting knowledge! Needle felting had quickly become my favorite craft, because it was so easy to start/accomplish and because I didn’t have a huge mess to clean up when my kids inevitably needed me. Even within the first few pages, a BUNCH of my questions had been answered (seriously, Google didn’t even have a good summary on types of needles). And the fantasy aspect?! Ackkk I love it.
I had never really heard of felting as a crafty art form but when I saw this book I just had to check it out. This book really is a great guide for beginners. I especially appreciated the step-by-step instructions including pictures (I definitely need pictures to keep track as to whether or not I'm doing something correctly). I also feel like once you learn to do these designs it opens up a huge variety of other scenes and animals/creatures you can create. If you are looking for a new craft or already know about felting and just need ideas for future projects this is a great book for you!
Oh, this is so much fun! And quite accessible, manageable fun. This is a book that I will be recommending that my university library buys to begin to build a makerspace collection. The activities in this book would be easy to tackle with a student craft club, a "paint night" style needle-felting night (although wine and poky needles might be a bad idea), or a parent and child activity for a public library. This would be idea for the student teachers I work with, as they could try needle felting creations themselves, and then take the activity out to share with students.
What makes this great? Everything is beautifully, clearly explained. There is well-written text, broken down logically, and very clear step-by-step photos. The few tools needed are not hard to source, and the author gives some great options if you are looking for environmentally friendly tools. I wasn't expecting a section on dyeing in a beginner guide, so that was a pleasant surprise. My only (very minor quibble) is that it would be great to have links or qr codes to videos as well as the photos - to actually see the process happen.
I have a friend who is a mycologist, so you know I'm going to be working on a mushroom for her. Snag this one for your multi-generational makers.
What a BEAUTIFUL book! I saw it and immediately had to give it a read and look at the gorgeous photos.
Needle felting is something that I have tried before and thought that this book targeting beginners was perfect to continue my learning. It taught me right from the very first page, the origins of the craft and the wool industry. It has sections that outline the wool and fibres element and even discusses which parts of the wool are what and how they look. The felting surfaces, needles and holders and other supplies, sections were very informative and easy to read.
The projects. Oh my word, the projects! They ranged from a very easy to do cookie cutter garlands to customisable babies, unicorns, flowers and trees and birds, rabbits and fairies. Some even in finger puppet form! I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time with this book and the gorgeous projects.
Each project includes an introduction, list of supplies, and step by step instructions which all have photographs and are explained well and easy to follow. Tips for best use are also there too. The book is generously inclusive of templates for you to get to work straight away as well.
All in all a 5-star read from me and a definite addition to a couple of friends' Christmas present lists!
Thank you to Netgalley, Claudia Lenart and Fox Chapel Publishing/Landauer Publishing for a copy to review. My opinions are all my own.
I was able to look at "Complete Starter Guide to Needle Felting: Enchanted Forest" by Claudia Lenart on NetGalley. I think this is a great introduction to needle felting! I loved the step-by=step instructions with pictures and can't wait to try some of these projects. The robin with the nest and eggs is stunningly beautiful. This looks like a fun hobby to have!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
This is a really cute thematic book with instructions for making creatures and background items for 'fantasy forest' assemblages and small dioramas.
I'd rate it as advanced beginner. 4-4.5 out of 5.
Lots of cute designs and ideas
The book has good comprehensive information and instructions and lots of how-to photos. With some practice, most readers should be able to create a lot of really cute projects.
