i enjoyed this one! it was cute and funny. i just wish i was able to read it on my kindle and i might have enjoyed it more. reading it though the app on my phone made it a bit of a struggle unfortunately.
I loved this story. It had everything; romance, comedy, hijinks, twists and turns. This was such a fun read with a happy ending. It’s an easy read.
The main character, Delphie, starts off sulky and brooding. She’s stuck in her past and it’s affected her future; that is, assuming she has one. The book opens with her dying. She makes a deal and has to find a man, her soulmate, within ten days, or she dies again.
The author describes this book as the ultimate rom-com and that is such an apt description. It’s fun and flirty. It’s not just a romance though. Delphie finds love but she also finds herself. She makes new friends and finds new life in the process. I was rooting for her every step of the way. Even when I started to think everything was not as it seems (it’s not), it was still a fun ride to the end.
I will definitely be recommending this book. It ticked off all the boxes. It has romance, adventure comedy and a happily ever after.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I absolutely loved everything about this book! The concept is what intrigued me as it’s something I’ve never read before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is my first Kristy Greenwood book and she might just be an auto buy author from now on! I loved the writing style, the character plot, the light heartedness, and just absolutely everything about it!
I kept this review short and sweet because I thoroughly enjoyed it without reading any reviews/spoilers and hope you enjoy it in that premise as well.
My first NetGalley review! Thank you so much for allowing me to read this piece of work. I am so grateful for this opportunity!
3.5 Stars!
To start, more of a nitpicky thing: I wish that the publishers would have provided this eARC in a more easily accessible/readable format. I got it done, though!
Onto the review: I was pleasantly surprised by this novel, and ended up really enjoying it! It wasn’t perfect, but it was such a sweet easy read, and kept me turning pages along the way. The opening chapter(s) really gave me “The Good Place” vibes, and if I’m being honest, I wasn’t entirely convinced that I was going to be able to take this story seriously. It almost seemed too cheeky, too goofy, and I was concerned I was going to get a “ghost exists on earth and no one can hear/speak/touch her but she needs to get this random dude to fall in love with her”… But it was not this at all, and set up in a way that kept it playful, all while allowing the rest of the story to progress in traditional, slightly more serious rom-com kind of way.
There were some pretty funny parts, and I liked the evolution of the relationship between neighbors Cooper and Delphie.
The “Afterlife Therapist”, Merritt, is a Romance junkie and so the “deal” made between her and Delphie essentially aims to entertain Merritt by making Delphie’s last 10 days on earth a real-life rom-com. That said, this story ends up pulling ALL of the tropes: fake-dating, forced proximity, love triangle, only-one-bed, [mild] enemies-to-lovers (and whatever “taming the womanizer” is), and it was fun to slowly notice them as the story went on. Kristy Greenwood also casually drops some call-outs to other rom-com books we’ve all read, which I found kind of cute!
Delphie as the main character was lack-luster to me. I thought that it would’ve been better (and made Delphie a more generally likable character) if she had made SOME adult life progress prior to this 10 day schtick. Regarding the romance and spice: I honestly felt that this book could have been truly "closed-door" -- and I'm a spicy scene fanatic! The two (-ish ?) spicy scenes in the story could have just been a bit lengthier/more detailed/better written. Maybe one high quality spice scene instead of 2 mediocre ones? All that said, this didn’t actually take away from the story at all, despite my uninspired feelings about it.
I wouldn’t say this book was incredible, per se... It definitely left me wanting in many regards compared to my typical romance read. But overall, I enjoyed this book! It was quippy and funny, had some fun twists and turns, and even a sprinkle of mystery. The found family and the end character growth really tied it all together. I wouldn’t go around recommending it to all of my friends on my own volition, but if someone said they were thinking of reading it, I would encourage it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this ARC of this book!! 5stars!! Such a great read. Had me actually laughing out loud at times!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this one. But boy! Was I surprised! I loved it so so much, The romance was top notch and the found family aspect drew me right in. Delphie and Merritt both have my heart. It is set in London which makes it that much more enjoyable. Totally recommend. Fun, romantic read.
Really loved this one! A cute premise of being sent back to earth from the afterlife and an ending/resolution that wasn’t completely obvious from the beginning. Just a hint of spice. A main character that’s just cringeworthy enough to be relatable without becoming unlikeable. A funny, quirky cast of ensemble characters with a heartwarming plot about friendship woven through. Really fun, light, enjoyable read.
I was in a major book slump when I started The Love of My Afterlife. I typically read mysteries or psychological thrillers, but I needed a bit of light before going back to the dark, twisty books I'm used to. I am SO glad I chose this book. I could not put it down! I laughed out loud, I cried, and I fell in love with the characters in this book right alongside the main character, Delphie. It's a story about life, love, hope, and vulnerability. I was so proud of Delphie as she forced herself out of her comfort zone and really started to live. She took chances and was rewarded in all the best ways. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a lighter love story with incredible character growth.
Kirsty Greenwood’s "The Love of My After Life" is an absolute hoot and a half, blending laugh-out-loud humor, heart-tugging moments, and a whirlwind romance that’ll keep you guessing till the end. This book is a total blast, packed with all my favorite romance tropes, yet it still managed to surprise me at every turn! Easy 5 star!
Picture this: Delphie, our hilarious heroine, just croaked (literally!) after a run-in with a microwaveable burger. Now, she’s in the afterlife’s waiting room, rocking her nightie and feeling every bit as mortified as you’d imagine. Enter the hottest guy she’s ever laid eyes on, and bam—instant sparks! Just when things are heating up, he’s yanked back to Earth due to some cosmic clerical error. Talk about a cliffhanger!
Delphie’s offer to return to Earth to find her dreamy stranger comes with a catch—she’s got just ten days to seal the deal! The ticking clock adds a thrilling edge, but the journey is what makes this story sing. From the get-go, I was hooked, eager to see how Delphie would navigate this celestial scavenger hunt.
Delphie is an absolute riot—quirky, relatable, and brimming with charm. Her quest to find Mr. Right in a city teeming with people is both heartwarming and hysterical. Along the way, she learns to listen to her heart, ask for help, and maybe even see the magic in the life she left behind. Plus, the supporting cast is a colorful crew, each adding their own sparkle to Delphie’s adventure.
What I adored most is how Greenwood played with beloved romance clichés while keeping the story fresh and unpredictable. Yes, there are serendipitous meetings, heartfelt confessions, and adorable quirks, but just when you think you’ve got it all figured out - another twist to keep you on your toes.
The romance is sizzling and sweet, with our mysterious love interest being every bit the enigmatic dreamboat you’d hope for. Their chemistry is off the charts, making their eventual reunion (fingers crossed!) all the more deliciously anticipated.
"The Love of My After Life" is more than just a rom-com; it’s a rollercoaster of emotions wrapped in a sparkling narrative. Greenwood has crafted a tale that’s as uplifting as it is entertaining. If you’re in the mood for a book that’ll make you laugh, cry, and swoon in equal measure, look no further. This one’s a keeper—prepare to be charmed right out of your socks!
What a fun book. I liked how the author starts off by saying in her Author's Note that 'This is not a throw away genre for me.' Always a good start when the author is committed to writing a good book - that also happens to be a romance. Greenwood's characters are funny and witty. The quest to find a soul mate and the need to open up to others leads the main character to live more in 10 days than she has in her entire life to date - and I was cheering her along as she found friends, confidence, purpose and love.
'I spin around and march towards the door, hoping to myself that one day Cooper has a terrible urge for a hot cup of tea at daft o'clock and simply must borrow some milk, at which point I will say no. Or even better, fill a cup with gone-off milk and give him that.'
'I am going to be the opposite of what everyone thinks I can be. I am going to be fucking lovely.'
'...- that being alive is about experiencing the full gamut of emotions. If you're not feeling pushed and pulled and scared and delighted instead of just safe -- then you're not doing it right.'

Thank you netgalley and Penguin random house for the e-arc.
Romance tropes everywhere, funny, sweet, and every so often a little out there. I loved this book. Honestly July 2nd run to your local book store this is a can't miss read!!!
The Love of my Afterlife is not your average love story. With all chic lit love stories, you know there will be a happy ending but how you get there is the question. I am happy to say that Kirsty Greenwood does not use the usual formulae. Greenwood flawlessly combines romance and fantasy she creates a beautiful place in the afterlife. Greenwoods characters are rich, and she develops them well. It is a story about friendship, family, and making the most of your life, told in a unique way.

Excellent book, my first read by this author. Thank you for gifting me with an ARC of this book. It was a zany romance with the help of a ghostly matchmaker.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a guilty pleasure read that had me smiling throughout.
Book tagline: A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up…
Delphie is perhaps the first fictional character I have encountered in the romcom genre who is as funny as Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones. Like so funny that I snorted with laughter and my stomach hurt from laughing. I could easily see this being turned into a movie or a limited series. This book was as much about finding your "community' as an adult as it was a romance. I don't say this about too many books in this genre but I adored all of the people who truly loved Delphie for who she was( Cooper, Amy and Malcolm, Mr. Yoon, Alexd, Frida).
I have a feeling that this could be one of the hits of the summer. I hope to see it among the Goodreads nominations in the fall.

This was such a good read. I love a book that sticks to the conventions of a modern romance story but has a completely unique and original plot. Delphie is a pretty loveable character and I felt myself rooting for her throughout the novel.
"The Love of My Afterlife" is a delightful romp through the magical realms of love and second chances. The narrative is a perfect blend of romance and fantasy, creating a world where the boundaries between life and death blur beautifully. Delphie’s journey is filled with endearing moments, quirky encounters, and heartwarming revelations. The urgency of her quest adds a thrilling undertone to the otherwise light-hearted plot.
The characters are wonderfully crafted, with Delphie’s determination and wit shining brightly throughout the story. Greenwood’s writing is both humorous and touching. I found myself smiling, laughing out loud, and rooting for Delphie and Jonah every step of the way.
"The Love of my Afterlife" is the epitome of a bad mood banishing romcom. Its endearing, enchanting, and a perfect escape!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada/Viking for the opportunity to read and review "The Love of My Afterlife" prior to its publication date.
Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!!
I loved loved loved this book!! It was such an interesting storyline and concept and I had no idea where it was going to go. I loved our main characters and the found-family aspect (along with some great romance tropes).
I will be grabbing a physical copy!!
Okay I’m a sucker for a good rom com. This is beautiful, had me giggling and falling in love with the main characters. The writing is fantastic, I’d give it 6 stars if I could.
This book is perfection. It had me kicking my feet and giggling multiple times. It also had me daubing my eyes and demanding that the author “fix” the problems she created.
It had everything I look for in a rom-com: laugh out loud humour, my favourite tropes (yes Merritt, mine is “one bed” too!), a love that feels genuine, and a diverse group of quirky characters to liven everything up. I can’t wait to read more from Kirsty Greenwood.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity
This is the first romance book I’ve read in a long time and I was not disappointed. I felt like I was watching (hint reading) a 2000s romcom. I felt in loved with all the characters even with the ones who had a small role in the story. Delphie’s character development was really well done and the plot was great. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange of an honest review! (Out July 2)
