I'm not normally a romcom reader but needed something light to get me through. Delphine chokes on a microwavable burger and ends up in heaven's waiting room where she meets "the one". When he gets sent back to earth she makes a deal to be allowed to follow him, but there are conditions. A delightful light read with comedy and romance. You have to love a character who can laugh at herself. It was the right book for the right time and a good read.
Thanks to #NetGalley#TheLoveOfMyAfterlife and#PenguinRandomHouseCanada for the EArc.
This book was so much fun to read. As it turns out, I really enjoy books that have a touch of magical realism. I like to think there is magic in the world and this is the kind of books that makes it feel like it’s a very real possibility.
I adored the main character, Delphie. I found her very relatable. I fell in love with Connor quite early on.
This book was hilarious with several heart felt moments. It includes almost every single trope possible, which is part of the charm (and the intent, which you would find out if you read it 😊).
I only have good things to say about my reading experience with this book. I looked forward to picking it up. While I did receive an e-arc of the book,, I was compelled to pick up my very own physical copy for my shelves. This meant that I went through it to tab the parts that stuck with me.
I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for an uplifting story about life, family, love and some romantic comedy. It is the perfect summer read - or evening the rainy day kind.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the e-arc. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but what I got was a pleasant surprise. After Delphie chokes on a hamburger, she winds up in the afterlife, only to almost immediately run into the soulmate she hadn't found during her life. Problem is, he isn't actually dead. Through a unique loophole, Delphie is able to return to life, with the mission to find her soulmate and get him to kiss her within 10 days.
This book is lighthearted and fun. It was easy and enjoyable to read, and is the perfect palate cleanser if you're looking to get through a reading slump.
What an emotional roller-coaster! The chase for true love was so fun to read and left me sitting on the edge of my seat! I am looking forward to reading more of Kristy Greenwood in the future!
This was cute. I didn't anticipate I'd get sucked in so much but I enjoyed the grump, slowburn vibes and it was also just really nice to be in the UK. Some fun side characters and a smidgen of spice to be had.
Thank you so much for allowing me to read an arc copy. I loved the mix of rom com elements with addressing more serious topics and themes. The premise of an afterlife match maker was deliciously funny and had me all in my feels.
Highly recommend!!
I just finished The Love of my Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood and here are my thoughts.
The afterlife isn’t what it is cracked up to be but when Delphie arrives, she meets a stranger and they connect in the best way. Trouble is, he wasn’t there to stay so when Delphie is offered the chance to return to earth to find him, she jumps at the chance. Trouble is, she doesn’t really have anything to go on and the clock is ticking.
This book was great! I found it funny and uplifting in that self deprecating way. I loved how clever the plot was and it was so well written. Delphie is my favorite kind of MC. She is quiet and thoughtful and she doesn’t have a lot of people in her life but when she connects, she connects hard. I found the way she and Cooper connected was really special and they healed each other in the best possible ways and he really helped her become something more.
I thought the rom-commy vibes were so cute and so funny! There were some pretty epic mishaps and some of the situations she got herself in. LOL!!! I laughed a lot and I felt my heart ache too. She is super relatable and that is a huge part of why I loved the book.
I didn’t like that she was a virgin, I felt that was cringey (I hate that word but it fits) and she supposedly falls for a guy within moments of meeting and goes back to earth to find him. It was a bit much! She needed more time with him for it to not feel so forced and inexperienced over virgin would have been better. It was the only thing I did not like.
Great book if you love rom-coms!
4 stars

Equal parts hilarious and heartwarming - I was totally engrossed with The Love of My Afterlife!
This book is just all-around fun, sweet, and swoony! The protagonist, Delphie, is reminiscent of a Sophie Kinsella lead, and I mean this with the highest praise. She's so quirky and naive and recluse, but you cannot help but root for her and find her so entirely adorable. Her growth was beautiful to witness, the shenanigans she gets herself into were hilarious and so entertaining, and her dynamic with Cooper was dynamite. I loved the banter, the wit, the yearning and the tension. Also, the side characters, such as the adorable and enigmatic Mr. Yoon, were standouts and added so much heart to this story.
If you want a fun, quickpaced, romantic time, with tender moments about seizing life (which never falls into a cliche!), then look no further. I loved every second.
Thank you so much to Berkley and NetGalley for an advanced copy!
This was so fun! I didn’t really know what to expect and I loved it. I love magical realism and this was very well done, interesting, original and hilarious. I loved the story and how it’s lighthearted and silly but it’s also about changing your perspective on life, grief and finding your people. I am looking forward to the author’s next book for sure.
If you’re a fan of the show The Good Place, Ashley Poston’s books, or if you just love rom-coms, you NEED to read The Love of My Afterlife.
This book follows Delphie, a recently deceased woman who meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room. When he’s sent back to Earth, Delphie makes a deal with her afterlife therapist Merritt: if she can find him on Earth and get him to kiss her within 10 days, she will get a second chance at life. If not, she will return to the afterlife.
The Love of My Afterlife is unlike anything else I’ve read before in the best way possible. It is easily one of the best romance books I’ve ever read. Delphie was such an incredible main character. She was relatable and I loved her growth. This was such an impactful book and I know it will stay with me for a long time.
What a fun read. This book made me laugh and I really liked when the author mentioned other authors and books in this book. Delphie dies and meets her Afterlife Therapist, Merritt. She is then given a chance to gain back her life again but only if she gets a kiss from her soulmate Jonah, a man she met for a short time in the waiting room. For ten days she gets into a lot of high jinx’s and learns to live. I enjoyed her interaction with Cooper, her downstairs neighbour. I would recommend this book. A lighthearted, fun read. I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own.
I had to DNF this. Making the MC a virgin and then having her run all over town after a man she met for literally 60 seconds is absurd. I did expect absurd but this was over the top and I can’t get behind it. Also, everything we heard was that she was a recluse and suddenly she’s a girl about town - sure she does it badly, and sure she’s motivated to live but it’s not consistent with her character. I couldn’t get behind this book and will not be recommending it.
Absolutely delightful! For anyone who is lonely, a loner, has been bullied or feels their life is too quiet and stuck in a rut, this is the book for you! One can’t help but cheer for awkward, angry Delphie as she embarks on a journey to find Jonah in order to save her life but ends up developing a fulfilling life instead.
This is a very quick and easy read that put a huge smile on my face, tinged with the occasional tear and a loud cheer for Delphie to succeed. I highly recommend this delightful story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this wonderful book.
Dying while feeling unaccomplished sucks, but dying while choking on microwave burgers makes everything so much worse. But then running into the hottest guy in existence before he gets sent back home while you stay down might just take the cake for the worst next step. Delphie knows this and feels this the most as she begs to be sent back to earth to find this mystery man and she has a time limit to locate him or else she dies... again.
The way this book spins the twists on you with one of my favourite tropes was fabulous. The wildness of the book kept building and building as the story went on and you constantly wondered how things would end for Delphie and the dream man goose chase.
This book was so much fun! I loved reading it the entire way through and was constantly surprised by how it just kept getting better.
I loved the plot twists that came near the end. I was gasping and everything because I wasn't expecting some of them.
The entire cast was so enjoyable. I absolutely adore Mr. Yoon and later events with everyone. The build up for all of these characters was fabulous and I was pleasantly surprised by every decision that happens for the cast.
The humour in this book was really fun, and I also loved all of the references in the book. I was so happy every time I understood a reference and so intrigued for the things I knew were references that I hadn't interacted with before.
The balance of everything from the comedy, romance, the feels, and the drama was so good. I loved how the story threaded so many emotions and did it all so well. I also loved when I thought the book would be going in one direction and then it would switch gears. It occasionally had a rollercoaster of emotions and it became so much fun as someone who loves to guess where the plot is going.
I think I would give this a 4.5 or something between a 5 and a 4 star. I loved the romance and so many things about this book. Even the things I thought would be different were still so much fun and enjoyable. I loved the concept but didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I'm so delighted that I was able to read this as an e-arc through Netgalley and Penguin Random House Canada so thanks to them. If you are looking for a story that feels like it's doing the 2 step with you, then this book would be such a fun idea.
This book was absolutely charming! Greenwood has crafted a witty, insightful story that encapsulates living as a young female in the 21st century. 5 stars! I cannot recommend enough!
A quick, cute, and creative read!
I absolutely devoured this romance! Kristy Greenwood combined my love for second-change romance with a unique twist of fate. Delphie is utterly relatable, though full of second-hand embarrassment, and a protagonist that readers will root for.
The romance in this book is phenomenal. Truly. It's raw, authentic, and swoon-worthy. The plot is easy to follow, and full of delightful twists and turns that had me eager to read the next page.
All said and done, definitely a story that you don't want to miss!
Thank you @netgalley and Kirsty Greenwood for sending me an advanced copy of your book in exchange for an honest review.
“A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love), if she can find him on earth before 10 days are up.”
Such a cute book, read in one day. I loved the frequent nods to popular romance tropes and authors. It had heartwarming moments of found family and discovering the joys of loving life itself and all the joys that come from letting people in. Was heartbreaking to learn Delphie’s backstory and see just why she had chosen to live the life she had. You will smile and cheer as Delphie comes out of her shell and learns about the importance of connections with others.
Highly recommend this enemies to lovers story with such a great crew of side characters. It is fresh, entertaining and filled with humour.
I really enjoyed my first book by Kristy Greenwood. It had all the romance things: RomCom, enemies to lovers, fake dating, love triangle, virgin, only one bed.
I enjoyed getting to know Delphie. She's a complete loner with only one real friend, her senior neighbour who can't even speak to her. She's a virgin and really not interested in a relationship until her time is limited, like 10 days limited, where she has to find her soulmate who she met for a few minutes in the afterlife. There's lots of funny situations she finds herself in trying to find that soulmate and she meets several people along the way making her realize she has a reason to live and she doesn't want to be alone anymore.
I loved how the story ended up more about finding yourself rather than about finding your one true love. You need to live life to the fullest because tomorrow isn't promised.
Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy.
This book was just fine. It wasn’t outstanding but it wasn’t god awful. I think romance writers need to realize that main characters should be somewhat likeable and LESS quirky. I don’t need to read about a loner character who has no friends, no reason to live, and nothing going on. I realize that was essential to the plot, but honestly this character was so flat I could rest my coffee on her.
The afterlife stuff was interesting but I find these kinds of ghost books very repetitive and boring.
I began reading this book two days ago and instantly fell in love with the quick and easy to read pace of this book. I quite enjoyed the story plot as I have not read anything similar. The character development was well written and added pertinent detail to the storyline. I throughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading other works by Kirsty Greenwood. Thank you netgalley for the arc.
