At the start of this story I was a little unsure. Our heroine is so stalled from her childhood drama, and has such a weird balance of people pleasing but also isolating herself. I was immediately enamored with Cooper, though and that took me through the rest of it.
By the end, I was crying, and so invested in their love story, and really loved how it all came together and the new normal they ended up in.
I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a sweet rom com with emotional elements.
This is my first book by Kirsty Greenwood and it definitely won't be my last. I only just realized I had marked other books by Greenwood on my To Read List. I'll have to bump them up my queue.
I'm not normally into science fiction/magical/paranormal books but they way that Greenwood uses it in a romance novel was easy to read and didn't make me feel like I was reading a genre I don't typically tend to read.
I like how all the characters tied into each other at the end, it was a perfect mix of main and side characters.
Delphie Bookham is a 27 year old woman who's never had a romantic relationship. She was bullied in high school and seems like she didn't have a strong connection with her parents, she tends to keep to herself and only really connects with her elderly neighbor Mr. Yoon. One day she chokes on a hamburger at dinner and ends up in Evermore, an afterlife. She is greeted by an Afterlife Therapist named Merritt who seems to be a little bored and gives Delphie a challenge to accomplish to save her life. Can Delphie accomplish the challenge to stay alive? I really enjoyed the story line between Delphie and Cooper and how they came together after a rocky start.
This was a heartwarming story with some good chuckles and some great chemistry scenes. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy of this book.
The characters are wonderfully relatable. The author’s vivid descriptions and engaging dialogue make it easy to get lost in the story. This novel is a delightful read that leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling and a renewed belief in the power of love. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a feel-good romance!
A fun and unique read. Extra points given because of the interesting premise, plot and Delphie! This would be an awesome book for a beach day.
As I read this witty novel, I kept thinking: this one is going to go over big with readers who love:
1. Second Chance at love tropes.
2. Misunderstandings
3. Star-Crossed Lovers
4. Love Triangles
5. Discussions of the above tropes by the main character as she tries to untangle her messed-up life, and
6. The usual "Impossible Obstacles" to overcome and Herculean hurdles to literally leap while on the path to true love.
There was all of the above as well as really great story-telling in this engaging romance.
I haven't been able to read a romance genre novel for more than a year now, but the second chance at life and love premise of this novel highly intrigued me (as per the blurb: the heroine dies and is sent back to the earthly realm, and then finds herself in a race against merciless time to find her true soulmate!)
Highly recommended! (To say more would be to create too many spoilers, so take my advice and just read this often hilarious romp!)
My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute book and a cute love story. I do like that it wasn’t predictable from the beginning.
I found it to be a bit of a cliche, and the main character was difficult to connect with at times.
Overall, the premise of the book was super sweet but I didn’t love the execution.

I loved this book so much! It was funny, smart, heartwarming, sexy and so much fun! You couldn’t help but root for the main character, Delphine! I genuinely laughed out loud at some of this things she said. She was so witty. If you’re a fan of romance book tropes, this one has quite a few. I’ll definitely be reading more from Kirsty Greenwood.
I was really enjoying this book…incredibly entertaining and I was definitely eager to see how everything turned out, however I wasn’t able to finish it as my access to it was terminated! I had a heck of a time finding the book to start reading it as it didn’t go to my kindle the way other books do (because it wasn’t downloaded to my usual reading device, I actually forgot about it for quite awhile). I finally downloaded the app and was able to read it there. Unfortunately, because it wasn’t on my kindle, reading outside was impossible so I found myself switching to other books. If I”d known this book was going to be accessible in a very limited way for a limited time, I wouldn’t have signed up for it, so my apologies for not giving it the proper review.
I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be light, and fun. I loved Delphie! I would definitely read more by Kirsty Greenwood
Fun, light read, perfect for summer! I really enjoyed this romp, it wasn’t too predictable, kept me entertained, and I was rooting for Delphie! You will too!
A delightful reading experience. The Love of My Afterlife was unique, charming, and funny. I did actually laugh out loud a couple of times!
I enjoyed the writing style, and I quickly warmed to each of the characters.
The twist was predictable, but that was not something that affected my enjoyment. I liked where the story was going, and I probably would have been disappointed if the twist hadn't happened the way it did! It was the perfect outcome.
I wholeheartedly enjoyed this cute, light romcom. It featured a mix of tropes- a bit of forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers- so if you like any of those, you might want to give The Love of My Afterlife a shot!

LOVED this!! I was hooked from the first line and just knew I’d be adding it to my favourites shelf. The storyline felt fresh, funny and was entertaining throughout. It was the kind of book I couldn’t wait to get back to reading and was telling my husband every single detail of. Delphie and the whole cast of characters were great, the shenanigans that occurred were hilarious and I just highly recommend picking this one up!! Can’t wait to read more from Kirsty Greenwood!

Sometimes death isn't the end, but rather the beginning 💖
I just loved Delphie in The Love of My Afterlife so much (tbh I loved all the quirky characters). When she unexpectedly dies but ends up meeting her soul mate in the afterlife waiting room, she has the chance to find love, save her life, and ultimately create a life that is worth living. Genuinely such a fun read for the romance reader who wants some paranormal elements and a literal life or death whirlwind!
Delphie didn’t mind her solitary lifestyle until she choked to death alone in her apartment. When she wakes up in the office of her eccentric afterlife therapist, Merritt, and tries to escape she runs smack dab into the hottest man she’s ever seen. The sparks are flying but before she can get his full name, he disappears back to the land of the living. Merritt, believing the man is Delphie’s soulmate, makes her a deal. She has 10 days back on earth to find him and have him kiss her and she can stay alive. The catch? All she knows is his first name and he won’t remember her at all. It’s life, death, and hijinks as Delphie needs to try everything she can to find her mystery man, even if it involves asking for help and coming out of her shell.
I thoroughly enjoyed Kristy Greenwood’s writing and how she brought humour and levity to heavier topics throughout the book. With an interesting cast of characters, this book was easy to get sucked into until the very last page. Magical realism lovers will enjoy what this story adds to the genre!
Thank you NetGalley, Viking & Penguin Random House Canada for the advanced copy to review.
It was a slow start mostly cause I was getting an understanding of what was going on. But once the plot twist happened it was excellent!
Definitely buying this one to add to my collection!
The Love of My Afterlife is such a cute and funny romcom. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the enemy-to-lovers trope and a bit of the ridiculous.
Thank you NetGalley for sharing this story with me in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited for this book and I was not disappointed. I was hooked from the very start and flew through this book. The plot of this book was so interesting! I loved how it was a romance but also involved difficult topics of grief. The plot twist was also so well done and I didn't even catch on, whoops! I had high expectations for this book and it was fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone!! THIS BOOK HAS MY WHOLE HEART.Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This novel is out now at your bookstore! This novel is cute. I liked the characters and our main female protagonist. This is a book that will take you through a lighthearted journey, one that makes you ask two question: what is your true fate? What is true love?
This novel, for those who like tropes, is an enemies-to-lovers, though the story doesn't start off traditionally that way, which is a nice touch. It's beautifully written, and emotional. It caught me off guard, in a good way.
Delphie just met the man of her dreams, one small hiccup is that Delphie is dead, and the handsome man standing in front of her is not.
This becomes very clear when the second after he tells her his name, he is whisked back to the land of the living.
Armed only with his name, Jonah, Delphie is given the opportunity to return back to her life, but the only way she will be allowed to keep it is if she finds Jonah and gets him to kiss her. How very little Mermaid!
This was a cute and fast read.
The author skimmed on some deeper topics, but it never went much further than that.
It had a whisper of loss, grief, betrayal, neglect, loneliness, bullying and rejection, but never went deep into any of them.
It had enough depth while still maintaining a light readability.
I loved this book. It was funny and lighthearted even though there was technically death in it.
I loved how much Delphie grew as a person as she tried new things and let people into her life.
Some of the side characters are a bit wild but they were fun.
