This novel was my first Kirsty Greenwood novel and I really enjoyed her writing as it took me back to the days when I first read Sophie Kinsella's novels as a young teen. My taste has changed but I cannot fault this book as it provided the right amount of nostalgia along with "feelings" with the right dose of "real-world"-ness (yes, despite the premise of the book, a large part of the book is grounded in human relationships). This was a guilty pleasure read that had me smiling (and laughing!) throughout.

The premise of the book is that a recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up. I picked up the book thinking it was a play on the second-chance romance trope but it isn't (sorry to disappoint those that go into it thinking so). To classify this with a trope would be a spoiler, so I will leave you with this: you will likely see it coming but you won't be disappointed.

Delphie is perhaps the first fictional character I have encountered in this genre in while who is as funny as Sophie Kinsella's OG Rebecca Bloomwood (the Shopaholic series) (although more of a pessimist, which resonated more with me). This book was as much about finding and making your own "family" and community as it was a romance. I absolutely adored (and even teared up slightly) at the relationship between Dephie and Mr. Yoon. I would recommend this book to others.

I thought this book was so cute.

I loved the cast of characters from Mr. Yoon to Aled to Leanne.

I loved the premise of this book, it was something a little different and I find myself really enjoying this genre of magical realism.

I did find the majority of the book pretty predictable. I called Delphie and Cooper ending up together pretty early in the book, although I did really enjoy the twist at the end of Em and Merritt being the same person.

As someone that enjoys reading a lot of romance novels I liked some of the popular books being mentioned as well as the popular tropes. I love when books bring in a little of the real world by doing that.

Overall this was a really great book and I look forward to reading more of Kirsty Greenwood's book.

The Love of My Afterlife was my first Kirsty Greenwood romcom, and if it’s typical of her writing, it definitely won’t be my last!

As the story opens, Delphie, our heroine is breathing her last. She wakes up in the afterlife in a laundromat, where she has a chance encounter with a young man (not dead) who, she is told, is her soulmate. With only a first name to go on, she is returned to her life in London with ten days to find him and get him to kiss her otherwise she will die again. And it only gets funnier from there.

I found myself laughing out loud as I read of Delphine’s antics to hunt down her alleged soulmate, and how, determined as she was to remain a loner, she kept gathering new friends and finding new enjoyment in life.

Full of all the romance tropes you could ask for, The Love of My Afterlife was a hilarious, yet touching story of friendship, love, and learning to live life to its fullest. It brought me from laughter to tears, and I can’t wait to check out more of this author’s books.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you Netgalley and Viking for the chance to read The love of my afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood. I was looking for something a bit different and lighthearted to read while reading a thriller series, and this was definitely different. The premise sounded fun, a more magical, funny, romantic version of It's a wonderful life. I got caught up in the story right away, but the main character Delphie was a bit annoying for me. Merritt, Delphie's romance-loving Afterlife therapist was hilarious. I enjoyed the story enough to try one of the author's other books.

I read Kirsty Greenwood's The Vintage Guide to Love and Romance years ago and loved it! When I saw this on Netgalley I knew I had to read it, I am loving all of these contemporary paranormal ghosty romances like Dead Romantics! This isn't actually a ghost romance, Delphie dies but then is pretty much immediately brought back to earth for a second chance at life if she can convince her soulmate to kiss her of his own free will in 7 days! Delphie is a loner who's only friend is her little, old, mute neighbor, Mr. Yoon. Her “AfterLife therapist” Merritt was such a frigging hoot and when she sends her back to life, the parts I enjoyed most were Delphie learning to open up and creating a found family type of group which was so sweet! I don't wanna spoil the romanctical parts of the story because they took my off guard in the best way possible. I was delighted by our hero and he truly brought out the best in Delphie and helped her expand her point of view! The ending is surprising and beautiful, 10/10 recommend!!

This was the absolute cutest book with such a unique plot! I did not expect the twist either! The characters had me giggling and smiling the whole time. It gave off 'The Good Place' with Kristen Bell vibes. Also, how cute is the cover?!

ARC Book Review!

The love of my afterlife by Kristy Greenwood

4.5 / 5⭐️

2/5 🔥

I love the premise of this book. And the journey made it even better. You just KNOW that our lovely FMC is being put in situations she wouldn’t have been before her unfortunate choking incident and that it’s going to make her life a whole lot different for the better. It was so enjoyable to have this knowledge and watch her stumble her way through trying to find her soulmate.

There was a couple things that I didn’t love…As an avid traveller Delphine juuuuust about lost me when she said “ travelling seems to be a waste of money” and It made me a tad nervous that she started spending all her money without afterthought considering there was a chance she wouldn’t die.

The twists and turns had me coming back for more though! The way the author incorporated Coopers sister was just brilliant. I would love to have a physical copy of this book on my shelf!

This was such a cute easy summer read! I relate so much to the main character and thought coming back after visiting the afterlife was an interesting angle to play. I liked it.
The plot was fast-paced, the writing was good, the characters were real and i especially loved the shoutouts to other authors.

What a fun book. This is not my typical genre and it’s my first book by author Kirsty Greenwood but definitely won’t be my last. Many times I had a good chuckle while reading this fun easy read.
After choking on a microwave burger Delphie is greeted by Merritt, an afterlife therapist. She also meets Jonah, the hottest man Delphie has ever seen and here he is talking and smiling at her. Delphie who really hasn’t much of a life on earth is thinking maybe her luck has changed here in the afterlife but that doesn’t last long as it’s soon determined a mistake has been made and Jonah will return to earth.
Quirky Delphie makes a deal with Merritt who allows her to go back to earth and stay but only if she can find Jonah and he kisses her under his own free will within ten days. Can she find a man whom she only knows as Jonah in London with no other information and can she find him before time runs out?
Only time will tell!
We meet many characters throughout the book all of whom are fun to get to know just like Delphie. Every time I picked up the book to read I couldn’t wait to see what she was up to next and likely would have read this in a day or two other than the fact I had things going on in life and could only read short periods at a time.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves to laugh while reading or who needs a bit of a break from a different genre.

Thank you Netgalley and the author Kirsty Greenwood for an ebook copy of The Love of My Afterlife.

Who knew that a sweet, cute, fluffy story could make me snot cry so much? Sure, there was a bit of angst, but a ~normal person would probably shed a tear or two, not a full blown snotfest like I did.

Kirsty Greenwood would take you along for a ride full of wonderful side characters and side stories. While it was kind of obvious that you know who Delphie ended up with, I was still surprised by the turn of events. Very well done twist.

This is my first Kirsty Greenwood book, and I look forward to reading her other books. This will definitely go to my re-read pile. I think this would make a wonderful rom-com movie!

Going into The Love of My Afterlife, you have to know that this is magical-realism, meaning that some parts of the book will require a suspension of belief. I mean, the whole premise of the book revolves around a 27-year-old women who chokes on a burger 🍔 and then meets her soulmate 💞 in an afterlife waiting room. 🕊️

If you can do that, then the real fun begins.

Delphie, a socially awkward virgin who basically lives her life hiding from any human relationships, meets her soulmate Jonah after she dies. Plot twist, he's sent back to earth because he wasn't actually supposed to be there. To make it up to her, Merritt, her "Afterlife Therapist" gives her the chance to go back to earth but she can only stay if she finds Jonah and he kisses her within 10 days.

I'll admit that at first, I was leery of this book because it reminded me of every heaven-themed movie from the 80s (IYKYK). And I could totally picture it as a corny Hallmark movie. But as I kept reading I realized that I was having FUN. I even laughed-out-loud a few times.

The MMC is so awkwardly sweet that you can't help rooting for her. And the cast of characters were equally as compelling with quirky personalities and genuinely nice people. It's been a long time since I could say that I enjoyed a book simply because it was a good story. The storyline itself had enough twists and turns to keep me interested and there was even a little spice thrown in.

This book is such a fun, delightful little treat I wasn’t expecting. The dialog was great and I found myself truly caring if Delphine got to live or go back to Evermore. Really well done and yes the usual romance tropes but they were done delightfully. Can’t wait to read it again!

What a fun read! The Love of My Afterlife is a cute, quirky, sassy rom com that I really enjoyed.

Our main character, Delphie, dies in a rather unfortunate way. She is given a second chance at life, providing she can get her soul mate to kiss her willingly within 10 days.

I was expecting Delphie to be a typical introvert who opens up to people over the course of the story. So I was (pleasantly) surprised that she was just kind of a bitch. She totally had valid reasons! Loved her character development. She always had a heart of gold, she had just hardened it off.

Great supporting cast of characters. For some reason, I instantly fell in love with Aled, but they are all great and add to the story.

While the partner Delphie ends up with for her HEA is very predictable right from the start, I don’t think that detracts from the story. It’s a really fun ride to get there!

The only part I didn’t love was right at the end, when Merritt is explaining her reasoning to Delphie. It was just all too random, and I think unnecessary to the story.

If you like cute romances with playful banter and paranormal elements, check this book out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing the ARC of this book. This review is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Quirky, different and utterly charming, this is the story of Delphie, whose empty life is ended with a piece of hamburger lodged in her throat. When she arrives at Evermore, stunned and disoriented, she is greeted by Merritt, her afterlife therapist. As if being dead was not bad enough, her introduction to Merritt and her afterlife is distressing until she meets Jonah in the waiting room. There is instant chemistry. They are soul-mates, Being dead isn’t going to be such a downer. That is until Jonah is swished back to earth because it really was not his time. Now Delphie must face enternity without the love of her life until Merrit makes her an offer she cannot refuse.

Go back and find Jonah and make him kiss you. Of course, Jonah will have no recollection. So Delphie must enlist the help of people around her. Since she has built an impenetrable wall around her, they all think she is this grumpy mean person. Much to their and her surprise there is love inside her and it is going to blossom in some very unusual ways. She does find Jonah and after a number of twists and turns, he does kiss her, thus saving her life. However, it is then that she has clarity and she realizes some astonishing things. She has much for which to live but she needs that special someone and he may be out of reach.

Lots of surprises to this tale as Delphie discovers the world around her, the one she had shut out. It is romantic and sweet and uplifting. Reading the book will make you feel good. I loved it. Five purrs and two paws up.

The Good Place if it had every single trope and also sexy times - I loved this. The side characters were SO fun. One twist I did see coming, one I did not. It was funny, it was heartwarming, it was spicy! I’ll definitely recommend this to everyone as a great summer read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Randomhouse Canada for giving me access to the ARC for this book.

The premise of this book was really compelling and I was very excited to read it. I found the main character to be supremely unlikeable at first, but I think that was the point. She's so afraid of living her life and making connections with other people, and it's so frustrating. You just want to shake her and say "get a life!" She really grows and changes through the story and while some of her decisions made me roll my eyes, I'm glad her growth came and wasn't entirely due to her relationship with a man.

The initial situation of her being dead and then sent back to Earth felt a little too convenient and a bit weak, though further reading explains it and gives it more depth. I saw some of the later plot points coming, but enjoyed the journey getting there.

I enjoyed the acknowledgement of the romance tropes present in the book. I mostly understood the references to other romance authors/books, but I don't know how well they will age. One of the main love interests is compared to Timothy Chalamet and as a woman in her mid-thirties, I just don't get the Timothy Chalamet love. The author says Timothy Chalamet and I just do not see a hot guy.

Overall I enjoyed this book, but I'm not going to remember it as an amazing romance read I'd like to read again.

The Love of My Life by Kristy Greenwood is a totally different read from my usual picks. It is a delightful romantic comedy with many twists and turns in it.

The story is about a woman named Delphie who dies and meets her soul mate in the afterlife. She is given a deal of 10 days to return to earth, find her soulmate and get him to kiss her. The only clues she has are his first name and that he lives in London. If she succeeds she will live if not she will return to the afterlife. Delphie learns some very important lessons, finds out a lot about herself and how she has missed out so much on life.

This was a quirky book with many humorous moments. I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a lighthearted yet moving story. This isn’t just a romance book, but a story about what it means to really live, and experience life to its fullest.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for an advanced copy of this book.

This is my first book by Kirsty Greenwood and it won’t be my last. I loved it all, from the unique premise to the wonderful all-the-feels ending this book was chef’s kiss.🤌 The author uses her love of books (especially of the romance variety) throughout the story and I loved that. All the name and title-dropping had me smiling and thinking “I know that one!”.

I love quirky characters and Delphie is definitely quirky. I had a hard time figuring her out, is she a wimp? Is she a strong woman for what she went through and then does to help herself? Either way, I liked her, she was a wonderful main character. She was hard to like at first because I thought she was wallowing in self-pity, but then I started to get where she was coming from. I saw so much growth from her through the book and she grew on me. I loved how she and Cooper worked together to help each other out despite not being on the best of terms. Delphie grows up and opens up, she stops being scared and it opens up a whole new world for her.

The side character Mr. Yoon was also one of my favourites, and Delphie’s relationship with him really touched my heart. In fact, all of the side characters are pretty amazing and Delphie learns about herself through them and she realizes life is worth living fully and one shouldn’t let past hurts get in the way of a happy ending.

Greenwood mixes genres expertly and that’s not an easy task and to please this reader isn’t easy either but she did it. We have science fiction, magical realism, a touch of the paranormal and of course romance. There was just so much to love about this one. I look forward to what the author has coming next and checking out her backlog. All. The. Stars.

This was such a fun read. I’m not normally a fan of romance books, but when I was given an arc of the book from NetGalley, I thought why not?

Recently deceased Delphie wakes up in the Afterlife waiting room where she’s swept off her feet by a guy who she thinks could be her soulmate. On a whim, Merritt, who works in the Afterlife, sends her back to life with the task of finding her soulmate, Jonah, and getting him to kiss her to keep her from returning to the Afterlife forever.

Back home, she’s awakened by her curmudgeonly downstairs neighbour Cooper. In a quid pro quo, they help each other out. Cooper to convince his parents he’s dating, and Delphi in the search for Jonah.

Craziness abounds as they work together. Delphie and cooper find themselves in crazy situations. Oh, and, is there a spark? Does it through a wrench in the plan? You bet.

This book had me whizzing through the pages gobbling up the adventure. The pace was fast, and kept me engaged. I loved the character development that was great for even the supporting characters in the book.

This is a fun beach read. I definitely recommend picking it up.

Oh my...I loved everything about this book! The humor, the romance, the great banter, the fantastic characters - I enjoyed it all! For me this is one of those books that you wish you could wipe your memory of just so that you can experience it all over again. I think it touched me so deeply because it's got a bit of everything. I was treated to a romance, yes, but I also watched the main character embrace a community, build the family she desperately needed, push herself farther than she ever had before, and take chances that scared her to her very core. Delphie is such a fantastic main character, one that I can see would translate well onto the big screen (yes, I think this would be a fantastic movie). Her inner monologue kept me smiling and, at times, even laughing out loud. And Cooper, well, he's the perfect "enemy to lover" and oh so swoony. Add to that a motley crew of side characters and, trust me, you'll be very entertained. This is my first Kirsty Greenwood book but it will definitely not be my last. I'm looking forward to enjoying more of her wonderful stories!
