Evil and Jonah are older MC.

Evie’s family and friends try to find her a partner. Events lead to her and her neighbor, Jonah, to fake date. They had strong chemistry and because they were already friends it helped make the relationship more believable.

I wish the characters for their two teenagers had been done a little differently. They should have been a bigger part of the story. There were some scenes where they were big parts of it but it was more as a friend instead of a child. Evie and Jonah both were concerned how the relationship would affect them but never actually talked to them.

Overall, this was a cute story. It just fell a little short for me.

Tropes: fake relationship, second chance, small town, enemies to lovers

Marina Adair's stories are always very humorous, fun to read, and have unusual characters. This one is no different. I got a bit lost in the timeline, but briefly, Evelyn Granger was at university getting her business degree so she could professionally run her Professional Organizer business (weirdly in the previous book that I read, the heroine was also a professional organizer, whose husband one day decided that he no longer wanted to be married, leaving her and their 3 children.). She is already certified and probably really didn't need the degree, but then she got pregnant, married the sperm donor, who then deserter her before Camila was even born. They were forced to move back home with her parents, an unusual couple, who divorced after her father declared he was gay, but continued to share their home and help raise Camila. Finally when Evie thinks theirs lives are settled enough for her to go back to school to finish her degree, the family coffee shop, Grinder, is in deep financial trouble. If she was not juggling enough, her friend and employee decided she needed some romance in her life and signs her up for a social media app. Men start coming out of the woodwork to Grinder, for a date and clicks. She talks her sexy next door neighbor, Jonah, into being her fake boyfriend in exchange for organizing his life. He is a widower who has been grieving the loss of his wife, while trying to raise his 2 children and finding employment, which he had lost when his wife was diagnostic with cancer. As often happens, the fake becomes becomes real, which scares Evie to do the one thing that could hurt Jonah the most, while telling herself it is to save him. Lucky for her she has family and friends to call her BS.

I read a gifted Advanced Reader's Copy of this enjoyable novel from NetGalley.com. This is my honest, unbiased and voluntary review.

This was a light-hearted, but sexy read.

Jonah was dealing with the grief of losing his wife two years prior and trying to balance his life as a single parent trying to re-enter the workforce, all while also being reprimanded by the HOA about his mess of a yard. Evie is dealing with an ex who is not being truthful with their daughter about his upcoming marriage and baby on the way and a daughter who is taking out her misplaced anger on Evie and starting to act out, especially when it comes to older boys. Evie's friend decides it's a great time for Evie to find love and what better way than recording her talking about her perfect man and posting to a dating site? The video goes viral and suddenly lines of suitors are forming at her family's bakery for a chance to date her. Not having the time or want to deal with these suitors and sudden internet fame, she teams up with Jonah to fake date in exchange for helping him clean up his yard and focus on finding a job. What could go wrong?

Evie and Jonah were so great together. In the beginning there seemed to be a bit of animosity between them but there was no hiding that they also had chemistry. Slowly, but not unexpectedly, the line between fake and real starts to blur and Jonah and Evie find themselves falling. However, life has a way of doing it's best to throw obstacles in their way and they struggle to find a way to grow a new relationship while also focusing on prioritizing their own families and future goals/plans.

I enjoyed this story because it felt realistic and while it dealt with deeper issues of grief and the struggle of single parenthood, it was also light-hearted, sexy and fun. I liked how everything played out for Evie and Jonah and their families but I kind of wish there was more about what happens next for Evie in terms of the conflict that brought the third act break-up.

Over all this was a good read that I'd recommend to anyone that enjoys a good, open-door romance that is light-hearted and realistic.

Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, and You've Got Male didn't disappoint! An absolute must read for lovers of romance.

This was a super fun read! I love anything fake dating, and this didn't disappoint. Add in a single dad and I'm hooked! Quirky characters with strong family bonds made this a great read.

This is a true must read for romance lovers. The You've got male social media story got all the hype.
Fake boyfriend, Single Mom, Single Widowed Dad, Coffee House, Unemployment, Next door neighbors need i say more. Oh ok I will, notes shown through windows, teenaged children growing from best friends to 1st crushes, parents attracted to each other and a 2 year old who likes to smear her poo on the walls I laughed so hard, I felt the heartache, the love it was fun book!

3.5 stars!

I thought this book was super cute, but I felt bad for Evie. Her friends and family were so meddling and expected a lot from her. How she didn't kick 'em all out of her life is a wonder. I need that kind of patience in my own life!

This was a really sweet, occasionally spicy book about healing, about growing despite the weeds surrounding you, and about forgiveness.

I love Marina's books but this one was SADDDDDDD to start! I hate HOA's so Evie sicing their on Jonah got my rankles up. However, I cut her a lot of slack with everything she had going on. This was a sweet surprise.

"You hate me."
"Hate is a strong word. But our dislike of each other makes it even better. It will ensure no lines are crossed!"
Dislike? That word was like a stake through the chest.

Jonah didn't like hearing her say that. Say they disliked each other. He actually felt the opposite of that on a constant basis. He liked Evie. But things were complicated. As most things are.

Evie had so much going on in her life, the last thing she needed was a real or fake relationship. It looks like a fake one is what she was going to get. Until things get too real between her and Jonah.

This is such a great story!!

I adore this author's voice!

Every time I start a new Marina Adair book, I'm instantly reminded how much I love her writing style. She packs so much descriptive, insightful detail into every sentence, with words that just flow so easily that reading along is like floating down the river on an inflatable raft. Every book is simply a joy to read, and this one is no exception.

Evie and Jonah have history - as friends - she's the one who introduced him to his late wife years before. Now, he's dealing with single parenting as a recent widower, whereas Evie has always been a single mom to her teen, whose ne'er-do-well father left before she was even born. It's this friendship that comes to the rescue when Evie finds herself the target of a little too much attention when she tries to drum up some internet notoriety to save her family's coffee shop.

As fake relationships never stay fake for long, this romance has all the steam and angst and heartwarming intimacy that a romance reader could want. Add in a delightful array of friends and family and this book will just draw you in and hold you captive from the first page to the last. It's full of heart, with several romances brewing in the background and characters that you'll hold in your heart for a very long time.

Everything this author writes is gold, and this latest nugget is a real gem. Highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I received a complimentary copy from Entangled LLc and all opinions expressed are mine.

You've got male is the perfect read for anyone that loves the fake dating trope. It follows Evie who like all of us is tackling adulting as a daughter.handling her own daughter ,mother and the family business who has forgotten how to take care of Evie. However.her best friends makes her go viral and now she is being courted left ,right and center by eligible Bachelors she doesn't want so she does decide to fake date her neighbor. There is no smoke without fire and thus no convincing the world can hide what one actually wants.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved that Evie was older so she was more relatable. Evie's struggles with her parents and daughter painted a full picture of her life. The tropes in this book were some of my favorites including enemies to lovers, fake dating, and forced proximity. This book was sweet, funny, and had a nice touch of spice.

Evie and Jonah are neighbors. She’s a single mom and his life was turned upside down when he was widowed two years ago leaving him with a teenage son and an infant daughter. They have an ongoing squabble as she has gotten the HOA after him to clean up his yard.

I enjoyed it because it felt real, except for the social media aspect, and it dealt with issues of grief and the struggles of being a single parent. It was also light-hearted, fun & sexy read.

I received this advance review copy from NetGalley & the publisher for my honest review.

I liked very much having two POV in this story. I do love to know the different perspectives of the characters.

Even though I’m parent, my youngest is even the same age as Waverly and we’re in the middle of potty training too, I just couldn’t relate.

There are so many issues but I couldn’t help but feel that they were barely touched. I would have preferred less issues but going deeper.

Anyway it was a lovely bedtime reading.

I absolutely adored this story. I love romance stories with main characters finding love who are closer to my age, as opposed to early 20s characters. Gives me hope!
Both Evie and Jonah have real life issues they are trying to balance with their fake relationship and growing feelings. I loved the emotional depth of the characters and layers to the story.

You've got Mail, Never Been Kissed, etc all are inspirations for You've Got Male, a romantic dramady about two single parents finding love and dealing with being the sandwich generation. Both of the characters have a lot of responsibilities and dont have time for themselves at all, much less to find love. It had a small town feel although they are in a larger city so that was an interesting dynamic, and family members way too involved in their lives from comfort. I enjoyed the book and looked forward to reading it each night but at times I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a love story between these two characters instead of it being a start to finish tale.

You've Got Male is an absolute insult to every Nora Ephron movie featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

The whole story is a mess and has a weak plot. Everything about it feels disjointed and the fake dating element makes no sense. I'm willing to suspend disbelief but even herculean strength isn't enough to suspend it enough for me to believe this woman's video went viral. First of all, there's no real explanation for how the ClickByte app works or what it's for--all I really gathered is that you can post videos on it--but more importantly, the way Evie describes her perfect man is either incredibly generic (kind, funny, reliable, funny--it's important so she says it twice) or ridiculously nauseating like "gentle in the bedroom but all man and funny." I don't even want to read about this woman, but apparently this and videos of her twerking to Brittney Spears and offering people bagel balls is enough to make her an internet sensation. I'm sorry, but there isn't enough magic in the world to get me to believe this would be what gets men driving out in droves, knocking down the door trying to date her.

The romance is equally baffling to me. The whole fake dating bit was executed really poorly. I don't know if Marina Adair knows what the trope entails or just forgot she was writing a story whose premise is centered around fake dating, but it was basically nonexistent. When she does remember to include it, the "fake dating" mostly happens in private, which kind of defeats the whole purpose. The actual romance isn't any better. It's like Marina Adair couldn't decide how she wanted to portray the dynamic between Evie and Jonah, so she just wrote whatever suited her fancy when she was writing any particular scene instead of choosing one and committing to it. Are they enemies to lovers? Begrudgingly civil neighbors? Family friends? I don't know, and neither does Marina Adair, apparently, because we get bits of pieces of everything jammed into You've Got Male. (The fact that their children are best friends mutually pining for each other and that she was good friends with his dead wife is also really weird to me.)

Super, super cute contemporary rom com. Enjoyed the setup and found the main character relatable and the resulting situation entertaining without getting too irritated at character choices. I really enjoyed this one - the perfect easy, breezy, summertime read.
