ARC review.
You've Got Male
This is my honest to goodness review on this book, despite being an ARC reviewer. 🩵
I do not like the writing style of this book. I love the idea behind it, but I couldn't get past the writing. 🙈
It's a no for me, but that doesn't mean it would be for you.

Wow! Thank you so very much to NetGalley and the publisher, Entangled: Amara, for this fantastic book.

It is another best seller for sure for Entangled Publishing. They have the best books and the best authors@

Am always pleased to read an Entangled book.

Loved the tension, and the growing extra spicy romance between Evie and Jonah.

It was a a great read!

Recommend.

I had a hard time getting into this one, honestly I think it just wasn't my cup of tea. The writing just didn't pull me in very much.

Positive things about this book are that it covers some very tough topics in a very mindful way. I can appreciate how the author wanted to explore some things that are harder to cover in some of the lighter floofy romance books.

Thank you so much @NetGalley and @EntangledPublishing for giving me a chance to read You’ve Got Male early! ❤️📧

This book was adorable and full of so much heart. It reminded me of watching a medley of rom-coms like “You’ve got mail” with a dash of “Ten Things I Hate About You” and a whole lot of “Because I Said So”. The banter was funny and there was tons of swoonworthy heart-eyed scenes for all my rom-com lovers. 😍

Both main characters Evie and Jonah got to tell their stories through dual POV which gave them a lot of depth and in my opinion caused them to both have independent and interesting storylines. I really enjoyed both MC and really loved the side characters who all left big impacts on the story. (Waverly could double as birth control though in some of those scenes. 🤣🤣) I will admit I was a little surprised at his sad this book was in some places, but that helped it feel more real. I was also a little disappointed certain plots and storylines didn’t feel completed by the end. (Maybe there’s gonna be a sequel? 🤷‍♀️) Regardless it was a cute book and I’d definitely read more from this author in the future!

“Lucky me. And for the record I objectify you every time I see you.”

The title caught my attention right away, it reminded me of one of my favorite movies (which it does reference in the book). Evie has had all sorts of bad luck when it comes to life. She's a single mom, caring, compassionate, focused, dependable and hard working. Jonah hasn't had an easy life either. He's a single dad, loyal, flirtatious, understanding, and sometimes obnoxious. These two have so much baggage it's unbelievable. Evie's always worried about everyone else and Jonah just stopped caring all together. They decide that the only way to navigate their issues is to team up. The banter, tension and awkward moments are so much fun. I was so sad when I finished this book, I wasn't ready for their story to end. I would love to read more books from this author.

This was a cute rom-com and perhaps that's why I didn't enjoy it all that much. I understood the premise and dual POVs, however, it felt like a bit much at times and not enough at other times.

Evie Granger’s life is a series of disasters, something is always unraveling and she is expected to be the one to fix it. Between taking care of her lively parents and her rebelling teen daughter and trying to keep their family business afloat there is always something to handle. She doesn't hardly have time to breathe or handle her own life most days, let alone spend time on herself in front of the mirror, or even think about dating for that matter. Good thing she has a best friend with a plan to help her out...

You've Got Male is an entertaining and delightfully penned faux romance that is destined to touch your heart! These two come together under false pretenses, but the more time they spend together the more they start to realize there isn't much that is fake happening between them. They have sparks, sparks that not only scare them but also excite them too. I loved watching these two find their happily ever after, their love story came brimming with all the feels and laughs my heart could handle!

If you like light-hearted romances with a few laughs mixed in here and there then I have no doubt you will love what these characters bring to the pages. They'll have you smiling the whole way through! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Oh goodness, You've Got Male felt like watching one of my favorite 90s rom-com films, it was absolute delight, hearty laughs, dreamy sighs, and swoons to the last all through the night.

I want to like squeal and giggle over this plot. Okay, yes some suspension of disbelief is needed when it comes to the social media viral bit that kickstarts the plot, but that's the fun of rom-coms! It's a bit silly but in a way that's so full of heart and love!!! I loved seeing our protagonist Evie become an overnight viral sensation unintentionally and then having all eligible bachelors show up her at work vying for her heart (and clicks, haha!). My cheeks were starting to hurt over how much smiling I was doing! And then the romancing soon commenced when the deal with our co-lead Jonah was struck!

The romance between Evie and Jonah is simply beautiful.
From the onset, it's clear these neighbors and once almost-one-night-stands have a chemistry that cannot be contained-- but it can be denied, until it can't be and the good lovin' begins, woooo! They've got some sensational physical chemistry, but what I also took to was the emotional connection established and further deepened throughout this narrative. Jonah may poke fun at Evie but he sees her, truly sees her-- sees how good a mother she is, how selfless a daughter she is, and how empowering a woman she is. Evie comes to see her frustrating neighbor as more than a grieving widower, she sees a father who tries so hard, she sees Jonah as a man trying to better himself and to find his away again. They connect so beautifully beyond the fun banter and attraction, they connect on a deeply soul level. And that combination is gold in romances. Absolute gold.

I do wish the epilogue was a bit further in the future, to know how things are doing then. I'm always more satisfied when we go far in the future to see how our favorites as doing. And the following bit is just my own selfish and likely unfair desire, but Evie has never been in love until Jonah, he's undoubtedly the love of her life...but I was never quite sure how he viewed her, given his the high esteem for his late wife. Of course, I'd never want Evie to be a replacement, but I also don't want her to be someone's second place, and while it never felt like that whatsoever whilst reading, I still wished for Jonah's love confession to be more. I wasn't wholly satisfied. But more so than that, I circle back to wanted a different sort of epilogue. I just very selfishly wanted more and more and more! I'll keep my fingers crossed for bonus / extended epilogue, I'm simply not ready to let go for my new beloveds!

The entire plot is so well developed and paced, I laughed, I cried, I fell in looove with Jonah and Evie. This book was everything for me, and an absolute pleasure to read!

Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this complimentary arc, I leave this honest review voluntarily.

I absolutely LOVE everything written by Marina Adair. She’s my go to for contemporary romance, humor and heart. This book is one of my top 10 favorite reads of the year. The relationship between Jonah and Evie was just developed so well throughout the book. It was organic and real. As single parents they have a lot thrown at them daily.
There was so much emotion written into this book. I had to remember this isn’t real. The characters were well developed and the story just flowed wonderfully. There was a lot of humor mixed with the deep emotion that balanced the story well. The secondary characters were fun and the dialogue was witty and interesting. Evie’s parents were my absolute favorite! I really enjoyed this one! Huge thanks to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

I just really couldn’t get into Jonah from the start. I really tried to like him, but he didn’t start off appealing (imagining him as a guy who has a messy lawn and holes in the armpits of his shirt) and it was hard for me to bounce back from that (even if he did get better). I did like Evie and I appreciated the realness of having two MCs who were kind of messes and working through stuff. It just wasn’t really my type of book.

I loved this book! I read it in less than a day. The FMC was so likeable, and so was her love interest. The romance was top tier and the major conflict didn't drag out for long. It is a great palette cleanser, and an easy, happy read.

4.5 stars. I have read a few of Marina Adair’s books in the past, but it had been a while since my last one. ‘You’ve Got Male’ reminded me that I should revisit her backlist for titles I haven’t read because I loved this one.

There was so much tension between Evie and Jonah. First it was combative over the state of Jonah’s yard and then it because electric as they spent more time together under the guise of ‘dating’ to keep Evie’s family and social media suitors at bay. I loved the genuine friendship and camaraderie that developed between the two of them as well. It felt like such a positive influence on both their lives. The growth of the relationship was written in a way that was natural and as gentle as it was explosive when the tension finally snapped. I believed in the partnership so much, and I felt the heartache intensely in the third act and the relief at the resolution.

I will admit, early on in the book I wasn’t sure where it was going to go and how I was going to feel about the relationship. Jonah’s grieving for his late wife felt very fresh at times, and I didn’t know how if that would be handled in a way I could feel content with. It ultimately was, though at times before the story really found its footing I gave myself whiplash going back and forth between “he’s ready to move on” and “he doesn’t seem ready”. I was happy to eventually land firmly on the “he’s ready” side.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

"You've Got Male" was an entertaining and engaging read, it felt like a perfect genre mashup of Contemporary Romance meets Rom-Com.

This book had so much going on, I loved that the author chose to tell the story through Dual POVs. It really helped showcase their individual storylines, especially in the moments that dealt with deeper issues.

Overall I think that this was a really fun story and would recommend checking it out.

Thank you Marina Adair, Net Galley and Entangled Publishing LLC for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Y’all. This book is just oh so good. Emotional, but not in that debilitating way. FUNNY and relatable. So much character growth. A definitely not wanted viral video. Meddling parents and friend. I cannot recommend You’ve Got Male enough—Marina Adair does in again! ✨✨✨

(This book deals with sensitive subjects in a respectful, non-invasive way that I didn’t have trouble with it)

Evie and Jonah are both single parents, with their own struggles, who come together in a mutually beneficial fake relationship. Though the relationship started off as fake, the attraction is very real and it’s a matter of time before the lines between fake and real get blurred. But juggling all the chaos in their lives and managing a relationship, albeit a fake one is not easy. So what will happen when something falls ?
You’ve got Male was an entertaining read. I really liked how the author has balanced the heavy moments with some light romcom. The romantic moments though spicy were integrated very well into the story. Overall an enjoyable read.

Title: You've Got Male by Marina Adair

Release Date: June, 25th, 2024

3.5 Stars

Evie Granger's life is a whirlwind of chaos, juggling the demands of single-parenting a teenage daughter, caring for her lively mother and ailing father, and struggling to keep her family's coffee shop afloat. When a video of her describing her ideal man goes viral, Evie becomes an overnight social media sensation, attracting attention from men near and far. However, overwhelmed and uncertain about letting anyone new into her life, she strikes a deal with her equally overwhelmed neighbour to pretend they're in a relationship to fend off potential suitors.

The book's dual perspective allowed for a deeper dive into the main characters' lives, adding richness to the narrative. While it skilfully blends romcom with more profound themes like grief and loss, some readers may find the multitude of storylines a tad overwhelming. I did. Although the spice elements were seamlessly integrated, and this was a cute cosy read.

You’ve got Male by Marina Adair

4.5⭐️
2.5 🌶️

I really enjoyed this light hearted easy to read book. It was a fun mix of contemporary romance and rom/com. Told from 2 different characters POV with a lot of interesting side characters. It was a great in-between book to cleanse the pallet.

Evie is a single mom of a teenage girl with a lot on her plate, everyone in her life is wanting her to date. She’s bombarded with ‘suitors’ and thrown into an almost game show reality thanks to her mother and best friend posting her on social media. To escape the spotlight and random men showing up she makes a deal with her hot widowed neighbor. (Who she’s currently at odds with) to fake date.

Jonah the widowed father of a toddler and adopted father to a teenage boy (son to his passed wife) has a lot going on too, he is trying to be to move forward in the world that has stood still for so long. Jonah is juggling being a father alone and grieving his dead wife.

Being contemporary there isn’t any world building you have to deal with, set in Denver Colorado you can just imagine it as any city. Evie gay father owns the family coffee shop and which is first lgbtq owned coffee shop in Denver. It’s just a the perfect comfort read.

*This book touches on a lot of subjects which include grief, suicide, single parenting, money troubles. *
Does also contain sexual scenes.

You’ve Got Male was part light hearted romcom, part contemporary fiction. Evie and Jonah both show different sides and flavors to a single parent experience when the two come together for their faux-mance turned more.

I really enjoyed both our mains, and appreciated that this was a dual pov book so we could get a bit more from each of them. I liked that the story had both a lighter, romcom side but also delved into deeper issues grief, loss, disappointment and abandonment. The real issues were touched on in an authentic way that felt relatable, but still managed to flow and allow for the lighter parts of the story too.

There was a lot going on the story, which for me had a twofold impact. On the one hand it did lend itself to the chaotic feel for both mains and their struggles. On the other hand from a reader perspective it felt like a lot to juggle and might have been simpler with one or two less side issues. There simply wasn’t enough time to wrap up all the different bits, which is true of life of course, but I was left with some questions and wonderings.

My one wish would have maybe been for a bit less of the spice / spice coverage. There isn’t a ton and you can skip around it but for me personally, it didn’t fit with the feel and flow of the story.

Overall, I felt it was a good story and one I enjoyed. I look forward to more from the author in the future 😊

Evie and Jonah pulled on the heart strings. They both had so much going on and so much hurt, that it broke my heart. But seeing how these two worked together to fake a relationship was so sweet. Evie needing Jonah to be her fake boyfriend to get all the other suitors off her back after her friend went to social media trying to find Evie love. And well Jonah needed help everywhere. He defiantly needed organization in his life. Evie a single parent and Jonah also a single parent due to his wife passing. Jonah had a teenager and a little one. They both did have strong feelings for each other but made it seem like they hated each other. Once they establish this fake relationship, we know they are headed for love. But they both has so much chaos happening in there lives, can they make room for another person?
This story does talk a lot about grief, but the author has a great way to touching on it. You will experience tears, laughter, and lots of love.
