This was such a fun story to read because it had me laughing at the funny antics the Wingate sisters went to protect their Sandy Bottom resort in North Carolina. It was a story filled with angst, tears, and romance as Loni and her sisters tried to convince Ian he did not want to buy their resort. I enjoyed the antics, the characters, and the fun story! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A great summer read! I like Loni. She's a bit complicated. Because of her career choice, I was surprised at how naive and trusting she was. The sisters relationship was good though all have things they hide from each other. I've not read anything by this author before, but I will look for others by her in the future. The book is an easy read and has a fair amount of humor and a little mystery. The story is well paced. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book I’ve read by Jennifer and I really enjoyed it. Full of laughs, adventures, amazing banter and amazing characters
Loni is back in her hometown after a tough time. She’s determined to stop Dave the family resort but has a challenge ahead of her.
Ian’s in town to complete a business transaction…he is confident, strong and determined. What he doesn’t expect is Loni.
Loni and Ian’s interactions are funny, full of amazing banter and undeniable chemistry. Although they are at odds…the more time they spend together their feelings change. They become great confidants, lovers and partners.
A fun and delightful read.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the complimentary copy.
Loni left her hometown to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer where she is in the running to be named a partner. Instead of getting the promotion she finds herself being investigated and her fiancé, who was named partner, wants to take a break. Needing to get away she heads back to the family resort that holds so many family memories only to learn that her father plans to sell it.
Ian is a property developer who is also friends with Loni’s dad. He is interested in buying the resort, so he decides to take a visit to check it out. His appearance is not welcomed by Loni or her sisters but even though he and Loni find themselves on opposite sides that doesn’t diminish the feelings they are developing for each other.
This is a heartwarming story as Loni and her sisters fight for the resort but realize that there is a lot about the past they don’t know while Ian will have to choose what truly matters. I did enjoy getting to meet her sisters as well and hope that we will get to see them find their happy ever afters as well.
Resorting to Romance by Jennifer Shirk was a wonderful smalltown romance story!
My goodness I adored this book. This is a fun, quick read that made me smile from start to finish. If you are looking for a quick cute summer read this may be for you.
Thank You NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This is a really sweet, perfect beach read. Loni is small town girl who returns from big city determined to save her family resort. Ian is a lone wolf ready to steal it. This dynamic leads to a fun and flirty enemies to lovers.
In addition to the romance, there is complicated family drama that gives interesting side stories. The dynamic of the three sisters is very entertaining. And given their set up, I am looking forward to their books.
Overall, 4⭐️ and highly recommend!
"Resorting to Romance" by Jennifer Shirk is a charming small-town romance perfect for a summer read.
The story follows Loni Wingate, a lawyer whose life falls apart, leading her back to her family's North Carolina resort, which is at risk of being sold.
Enter Ian, a handsome developer with his eyes set on the property. The dynamic between Loni and Ian is filled with snappy banter and a gradual shift from enemies to lovers.
The strong bond between Loni and her sisters adds depth and warmth to the narrative.
While some plot elements feel a bit exaggerated like the pranks she wanted to play for Ian to leave them alone , it's an enjoyable, light-hearted sweet romance and satisfying read for readers that are looking for a quick summer read.
Very grateful to the publisher for my copy, opinions are my own
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for my advance electronic copy via NetGalley. My opinions are my own.
Loni Windgate was supposed to be made partner at her LA law firm today. Instead, she lost her (misogynist) fiancé and her career is in serious jeopardy. To top it all off, she finds out that her dad is selling their North Carolina resort out from under her and her sisters. Loni rushes back to wage war against Ian, the developer coming to assess the property, but instead of smashing the deal, she finds herself feeling more and more safe with him as she sorts out her complicated feelings about home and family. With their opposing objectives threatening to crush each others' dreams, they may end up re-defining what "home" means, or they may drive each other away forever.
This is a romance worthy of Hallmark! Pure escapism: enormously attractive opposites, becoming soulmates in a very short period of time, and magically falling in love thus healing lifelong trust issues for a happily ever after...lovely! This is a closed-door romance with a great consent rep, which I love. It also gives us enough storyline for Loni's two sisters that I suspect we may be seeing a series-in-the-making. Loni and Ian defy the odds stacked against them and help each other through hard times so that it all works out in the end--an easy, light summer beach read (bonus: it's set at the beach!).
As always, Entangled gives a great content warning at the beginning of the book. Here are the triggers I want to highlight: references to death of a loved one, sexual harassment, betrayal, alcoholism
If you enjoy 🎬 Hallmark movies, you'll enjoy this book! It is a cute, quick read with fun characters. Loni and her sisters work to drive Ian away while he tries to keep emotions out of the deal.

🥰Don’t waste energy trying to change people’s opinion of you. Stay true to yourself, sugar. Never settle for anything less.
🐚“I’ll help, too,” Ian blurted, then froze. What. Did. He. Just. Say? Seashell collecting? Did he really just offer to do that? Ugh. Now look what the south had made him do.
Thank you 🤗 to Jennifer Shirk, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of Resorting to Romance!
This was a great and fun fast read! I absolutely loved Loni and Ian as characters that brought the enemies to lovers vibe. My favorite scene is Ian showing up and Loni and the sisters giving him hell and acting like good southern ladies but you could tell it was fake! lol
The comic banter in this book is spot on and how Ian and Loni gave each other as good as they got it was awesome!
Would love to read more by this author!
Resorting to Romance is such a fun flirty read by Jennifer Shirk. Two delightful characters who are seemingly on opposites sides but it is hard for them and for me to remember why they were enemies. Some serious family secrets get revealed while the three sisters in the story grow closer. Ian and Loni may not have a huge amount of character growth but they do make some necessary life changes. It may cost them financially in the end but the life benefits are priceless. This is the North Carolina coast that I know and love.
Their story is summer fun at it’s best. The characters including the supporting ones on the family NC resort are unique but lovable. The bedroom door is firmly closed but some things are implied between Ian and Loni before the story is finished. Have a little fun and read Resorting to Romance. I am hoping that there is more to come with the other two sisters
Resorting to Romance
This is a sweet romance with a bit of family angst. I am super curious if the sisters in the book will also get their stories because if they do I am in!
Ian and Apollonia/Loni are the main characters. Loni returns home to help her sister’s fight for the hotel that has become the memory of her late mom. The twists and turns of life follow on the race of the Sunshine sisters to try and outwit the “code red” developer Ian.
It is a sweet love story of returning home to family and realizing the joy in home and family. It’s a perfect summer beach read light and easy with some Southern banter and charm.
The side characters are very fun and add to the story and you wanting to see if there are more books to come.
It’s has 0 spice so a sweet romance to enjoy and feel good.

I didn’t grow up with siblings, but I imagine that sisterhood is exactly as it comes across in this story. Loni’s love for her sisters and her family was evident in the way she worked so hard to save the resort. Ian being the one that is there battling with her is so fitting. He just seems to fit her city life and her small town life. I felt so many emotions throughout the book - sad, happy, giddy. This was one of my first reads by Jennifer Shirk and I am excited to dive into her future works.
Goodreads review is live. Instagram review is scheduled for 05-Jul-2024.
Resorting to Romance was such a cute and refreshing read. After busting her tail to make partner at her law firm, things crash down around Loni when she loses her promotion, her finance, and learns her father is ready to sell the family owned resort she calls home. Ian is the hunky, emotional closed developer Loni’s father has sent to deal with the sell of the resort. All plans detail once Loni and Ian grow closer and a lot more than the resort is on the line.
Jennifer Shirk was able to put me on a rollercoaster of emotions and then tie the story up nicely with a bow and happy ever after! I’m so grateful to netgalley and entangled publishing for the opportunity to read this story!
A refreshing contemporary romance perfect for summer reading by the beach or pool! This story is full of witty banter, some mysterious love letters and jewelry, off the page scenes that didn’t detract from the chemistry between Loni and Ian, food descriptions that made me hungry for good southern cooking with a cold sweet tea and best of all a Happy Ever After ending!
Thank you Entangled Publishing LLC, and the Netgalley for gifting me the E-ARC of this book and my opinions are freely given in hopes others will enjoy it as much as I did!
This is a heartfelt contemporary romance set in the charming family resort of Sunny Banks. The story follows Loni, an LA attorney whose life starts to unravel as her job and engagement to Blaze fall apart. She returns to Sunny Banks to save the family resort from being sold and unexpectedly develops feelings for Ian, the developer interested in buying the property. The novel explores themes of family strength, second chances, and forgiveness, with vivid descriptions of the resort. While the pacing is sometimes uneven and some secondary characters lack depth, the chemistry between Loni and Ian and the meaningful themes make it a comforting and enjoyable read.
This is a really funny romance. The three sisters are fantastic and will give readers plenty of opportunity for laughter. The plot of the story is lively and includes the characters discovering secrets about themselves and others. The dialogue is amazing and adds to the authenticity of the small town southern setting. Readers will be hard pressed to pick a favorite character as there are so many great ones. Sit back and enjoy this warm and inviting romantic comedy.
3.5 ⭐️ As far as cute summer romances go, this one hit the spot. As 3 sisters come together and try to save their family hotel, add in some suspense, intrigue and a love story and you have a pretty well rounded plot. I did feel like the main character chemistry and lead-up was a little lacking and some of the characters were hard to get a feel for but I still enjoyed reading about them. One thing I did find hard to believe was that Loni would so easily accept what she was being accused of at work and not put up more of a fight, since shes actually a headstrong, confident woman. Overall, though, I thought this was a delightful read and I especially loved the bond between the sisters.
Spice: 🌶️
Thank you to Britt, Entangled and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Despite the fact that Jennifer Shirk is usually one of my favorite romance authors, I'm doing a DNF. I enjoyed the beginning but things quickly got out of hand, imo. While Loni perpetrated several "pranks" on Ian to get him to leave her family's beloved resort (w/o once considering overall repercussions), dousing his omelet with several long hots went beyond a prank and seemed something tween-worthy and irresponsible. Any lawyer who could not see that this was intolerable behavior and opening themselves to being sued is not a very good lawyer, and unfortunately I kept muttering that for many pages (she's not the brightest tool in the shed (at least for the first 26%)). Unfortunately the characters struck me as more adolescent than in the YA romances I've read recently; life and reading time are just too short.
Many thanks to Entangled for sending me a copy.
This was a quick, easy read that was cute and enjoyable.
Loni is a lawyer in LA whose life has basically imploded in the past 24 hours, so she returns to her small hometown in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Her sisters have told her that their dad has decided to sell the resort they grew up in before he remarries, and Loni makes it her new mission to change his mind. What she doesn’t realize is she’ll be up against handsome developer Ian, sent by her dad with his own mission to acquire the property for his company. Too bad he’s so hard to stay away from.
There were times I laughed out loud when Ian first arrived at the resort and Loni was determined to make life as difficult as possible for him. They had a snappy banter and each could give as good as they got when it came to quick-witted retorts. The two of them had good chemistry, and it was sweet as they went from enemies to friends to more. (The book is fade-to-black/closed door, FYI.) Ian’s backstory made his character and reluctance to form committed relationships make sense, though at times I felt we were told more about who he was than actually shown through his actions. He seemed to want to be more ruthless than he ever really was.
I enjoyed Loni’s relationships with her sisters. It felt genuine. Some of the family dynamics were confusing and the history and current status with her dad was a bit odd, but for the most part it all sorted itself out. Enough little crumbs were dropped to give me the vibe that this will possibly be a series with each sister getting a book.
