I enjoyed this cute beach resort romance. It was a quick and fun read. The banter and paranks pulled had me giggling.
This is the first novel of Jennifer Shirk's I have read and I really enjoyed it. From the first chapter, she jumped right into the action with no pretense that sucked you right into Loni's world. It was easy to fly through the chapters as the story moved and a steady pace while still giving the characters fleshed out backgrounds that gave you insight to their motives and characters without being too wordy.
I love a good enemies to lovers romance and I liked to see the push and pull of Loni and Ian, though I would also have loved to see a little bit more resistance before the give of the characters. Shirk also captured the complexities of family dynamics and how they can influence different members by each of their perspectives, which is something I really enjoyed.
Overall, this was a great read to kick off the summer and I look forward to reading more from this author.
This was the PERFECT summer read. I love small town romances, I loved the beachy setting. This made me swoon for all the right reasons.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for this E-Arc! This was a super cute summer romance read and one I would recommend to anyone who loves summer romances! The was an easy read filled with love, family secrets, betrayal, sibling connections, and family coming together.
Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite book tropes, and this book did not disappoint! The relationship between Loni and Ian is so sweet. I am a sucker for dual POVs and you really got to know both Loni and Ian and got to see their relationship grow through both of their POVs. What started out as a shaky introduction as Ian is in town for his company to buy Loni's family resort, turned into a blooming romance. It was hilarious watching the sisters try to sabotage Ian's stay and to make him back out of the sale. The banter between Loni and Ian is perfect. This is a closed door romance, but that did not turn me way from this book. I thought it was really well written and you still got to feel the emotions the characters were feeling.
Jennifer Shirk is a new to me author but the inviting summer beach cover caught my eye. Loni Wingate is an attorney and in line for partnership. A mistake that she doesn’t remember making, causes her to be put on probation, and her fiancé gets the partnership. He says they need to go on a break, so answers the call of her sisters and heads to her family’s small town, North Carolina resort.
She decides to answer the call of her sisters and retreat to her family's small town North Carolina resort. Once there she learns dad wants to sell the resort where her sisters work. Ian Hollowell shows up as the developer who wants the property and the sister’s southern hospitality isn’t welcoming. I love the bond between the sisters although they are not always honest with each other.
For me the Pro of the story is the sisters. A family secret comes into play during the story and an estrangement with their dad. The Con of the book for me is the men in the story keep making decisions based on what they think will make the women happy. It happens more than once and with more than one character. It makes the women seem powerless to their futures. And I’m not sure I buy how deep Jen's relationship is when it occurs a week after her being on a break.
If you can overlook my negatives this is an enjoyable closed door, clean romance. For as light as some moments seem there are some serious issues, brought up in the book. If this turns into a series I would read the next one as I’m invested in the other two sisters. But this book alone doesn’t compel me to seek out previous books by the author. (3.5 Stars)
Loni had everything she thought she wanted until one tiny mistake at work called all of that into question. She leaves LA to go back to her family's beach resort in NC. When she gets there, she finds out that her father is about to sell the resort to developers. Not on Loni's watch! She sets up several pranks for Ian, her father's developer friend. Those are hilarious, but they also put Loni and Ian in close proximity. They start to realize that they have things in common, especially some serious chemistry. I loved the characters in this small town, and I had a great time waiting to see what came next. I am excited for Loni's sisters to get stories soon.
Resorting to Romance - Review
This enemies-to-lovers story was a delightful read, full of small-town charm and witty southern banter. You can almost picture and hear the North Carolina accent in every exchange.
The story begins with Loni Wingate, an LA attorney originally from North Carolina. On the verge of making partner at her firm, she’s blindsided when her fiancé snags the promotion behind her back and gaslights her. After a heated argument, Loni breaks off the engagement and decides to return home to her family’s resort.
Upon arrival, she discovers that her father intends to sell the resort and has sent a very handsome developer, Ian Hollowell, to assess the property. Ian, a Yankee, hopes for some good southern hospitality but is instead met with pranks from the Wingate sisters, aimed at driving him away. These antics will have you laughing out loud.
Despite his best efforts to avoid Loni, Ian finds himself irresistibly drawn to her, and the feeling is mutual. As the story unfolds, the Wingate sisters uncover a secret from their late mother’s past. Amidst grief, betrayal, heartbreak, and ultimately love, they learn that home is where family is, and family always sticks together.
This clean romantic comedy with a Hallmark small-town feel transported me to North Carolina, making it a great escape and a fun summer read.

Thank you Entangled publishing for allowing me to be a part of the ARC team
This enemies to lovers rom com story was cute. The book was an easy read filled with betrayal, love, and family secrets, but not so heavy that you don’t find yourself giggling at the banter.
The story takes place in a small beach town. 3 sisters are trying to save their family’s resort. The story had such a lovable characters and just had a family / community vibe.
There isn’t any spice except for some kissing.
What a fun summer read. The cast of characters were great at this resort and I really felt part of their world. Loni and Ian were great together and I’m looking forward to hopefully hearing about the sisters in future stories. Feels like there is some history there
I am a self-admitted book worm, and I have been the majority of my life. The genre that I can never get enough of is romance. Here lately, in addition to romantic suspense books, however, at my core I am still a fan of traditional romance. Because of this, I was extremely excited to read this book.
I tend to be hesitant to read books from a new author, because it can sometimes take me a while to get used to their writing style. I am pleased to say that this booked hooked me from the very beginning. I also liked that I could see both of the main characters’ perspectives. I wanted both of them to win.
I also liked that the secondary characters made you care about them also. I really hope that we eventually get to see additional books with some of the other characters.
I really loved this book, and I am very disappointed that I am done with it. If no additional books are planned, I would love to get a bonus epilogue or something down the line. I recommend this book, and cannot wait to see what is next from this author.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The play on words used in the title is awesome. This book was so funny. Loni Wingate is an attorney at a prestigious law firm and up for partner. Her life seems to be perfect, until it isn't. Loni is intelligent, logical, driven, and very sarcastic. Ian Hollowell is a vicious business developer, when he wants a property, he gets the property. He's closed off, apathetic, independent and a problem solver. When these two meet, oh my goodness! I was laughing so hard, I was crying. Their interactions are hilarious. The pettiness, the tension, and the banter are to die for. Even the supporting characters were amazing. Very well written. I hope that this is the start of a series and we can see more of them. Will definitely be on the look out for more from this author.
What a great summer beach read! I really enjoyed this book. The story of three sisters that are left to run their mother’s hotel after her death. Although one sister Loni has moved to California to become a lawyer but her life starts to unravel and she returns to her childhood home. Once there she learns that the hotel maybe up for sale and the sisters work to sabotage the good looking developer that comes to assess the hotel and it’s surrounding property.
I will definitely be checking out more of Jennifer Shirks books, I devoured this one I can’t wait to read more
Thank you to the author for providing an e-ARC for an honest review. This novel reminded me of a lighter Hallmark romance. The setting is amazing--small town, close-knit community, and Atlantic beach--and I felt as if I were vacationing there while reading.
My favorite characters were the sisters and their loyalty and love for each other. I enjoyed their character arcs as they worked together and fought to keep their beloved resort; secrets were revealed and past painful memories were dealt with. I really hope each sister gets their own companion novel!
While I enjoy enemies to lovers as a romance trope, I never felt the connection between Loni and Ian; their attraction felt too instant love to me and very superficial. Their friendship moments were touching and I hoped for more friendship moments. Ian never felt like a "predator" and his aversion to relationships never made sense to me.
Overall I enjoyed the clean romance and family drama and would definitely read more novels with these characters.
Cute romance. Perfect for summer. As a North Carolinan from near OBX, there were a few things about the setting that didn't seem to fit, but I still enjoyed the story.
I had the opportunity to read Resorting to Romance, by Jennifer Shirk, before its release on July 2, 2024! 🌊☀️❤️
Thank you Brittany Zimmerman and Entangled Publishing for the chance to check out this read!
This was the sweetest little beach romance novel! It was giving Hallmark in all the best ways possible.
Loni is a successful attorney in Los Angeles, but after a shake up at work she finds herself headed back to the small beach town she grew up in!
As Loni gets reacquainted with her sisters, she learns that her father wants to sell the beloved resort that he owned with their late mother.
In walks Ian, the very attractive developer Loni’s father wants to sell the resort to. Loni and her sisters plan to show Ian what southern hospitality is all about, but perhaps love is in the air or at least some heavy flirting!
This was an easy read filled with betrayal, love, and family secrets, but not so heavy that you don’t find yourself giggling at the banter.
L.A. attorney Loni Wingate has it all, or so she thinks till her fiancé steals her promotion and breaks up with her, and she gets put on probation at her workplace for a mistake she is pretty sure she didn’t do. An SOS call from her sister, has her going to her safe place, her family’s quaint North Carolina resort, only to learn it’s being sold by her dad. And to top it all the hunky man standing in front of her is the developer come to inspect the resort.
This was a cute read. There was a lot happening in the book - family secrets, bonding between the sisters, in a way reconnecting with her dad, witty banter, some memorable secondary characters and a beautiful romance. This is a perfect summer read and I hope the author plans to give Kalinda, Marise their own books.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC of “Resorting to Romance” by Jennifer Shirk.
Enemies to lovers will always be one of my favourite tropes and this rom-com did not disappoint! The book is full of witty banter, loveable characters and a sense of community.
I enjoyed seeing the relationships of the three sisters but also between the FMC Loni and the MMC Ian. The book took me on an emotional rollercoaster and I couldn’t wait to see the couples HEA. Recommending this book for anyone looking for a funny, lighthearted and witty romance perfect for your summer vacation.
I read this as an ARC on NetGalley
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer! When these sisters find out someone is interested in purchasing their family resort, they pull out all the stops and shenanigans. Family secrets, life changes and second chances at love, this book has it all!
An engaging and entertaining romance. The southern stuff is a hoot. It was a delightful journey to get to their happily ever after. I enjoyed this author's style of writing. I look forward to reading more of her books. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
