"Death By Chocolate Raspberry Scone (Death by Chocolate Mystery #7)" by Sarah Graves brings back a few aspects from the original Jacobia series (Home Repair Is Homicide) with a touch of supernatural and some various mentions of home repair. I would also say this one had less continuity issues than this series has kind of been know to have. That or it's just been long enough since I've read the other books.
The mystery gets pretty intense towards the peak. As usual things seem to work their way out into the water. You'd think Jacobia would want to take some Coast Guard rescue lessons at this point and that they'd know her pretty well based on how many times they've fished her out of the ocean. We also get a few Jaws moments this time. They were quite entertaining.
I was a bit surprised that a 7th book happened after the way the 6th book ended. After having read the 7th book, I'm glad it wasn't over yet. However, it's starting to seem like Jacobia is ready for her turn in the lime light of cozy mysteries to be over. It'd be okay to shift things to Ellie and the new police chief (I wont say who, spoilers) teaming up with Jacobia popping in. This series is a spin off series as it is. Another is okay too.
This is the first book I've read in the Death By Chocolate series, and it was so cute! I wanna read them all now. After reading this I am seriously craving a tasty treat. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a mystery that's not too heavy.
I got the sixth book in the Death By Chocolate series as an ARC audiobook almost a year ago. At that time I said I would listen to the rest of this series and I did just that. Now I received the seventh book and I enjoyed it thoroughly!
Sarah Graves is really good at plotting out her cozy mysteries. They are well-paced and make sense. Her characters are realistic and relatable. Another thing I really like is her descriptions. She really paints a picture in the reader's mind without getting bogged down. Her descriptions of Jake's yummy bakery treats makes my mouth water.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
