I really enjoyed this excerpt and really look forward to reading the novel in full when released. I love the balance of the history of the island and the present day fight for magical rights.
I absolutely loved The House in the Cerulean Sea so I'm more than a little excited for the sequel. Reading the prologue and first four chapters immediately swept me back into the world TJ Klune created. It's as warm and welcoming as a hug and I easily fell in love with Arthur, Linus, and their children all over again. The sneak peek of Somewhere Beyond the Sea did exactly what it was meant to, which is up the anticipation even more for the full book. I cannot wait to see how Arthur and his loved ones protect their family and fight for a future for all.

This was an amazing story about healing and about loving who you truly are ! There is an orphanage filled with amazing creatures that are all children and that includes the antichrist. None of them a teenager yet they all needed a figure to look up to. That would be Arthur Panasas. One day the government sends a worker, Linus Baker, from the Department in Charge of Magical Youth to ensure Arthur is doing his job and taking care of the precious magical youngsters!!! What Linus doesn’t know is that he will fall in love with all of them and make his way home !
Now that Linus is home and living with his family, it is time for Arthur and himself to fight the government! The short story follow up is all about spreading the word of how amazing and deserving the magical youth are!!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC excerpt of this book. I was drawn into this world once again immediately and can't wait to read the entire book.
This is a very highly anticipated release for many of the guests that visit my library. I am grateful to have receive this excerpt, but man o' man, I want to read the whole thing right now! I was intrigued by Arthur in the first book, and I am delighted that we get to hear his story now.
Even just reading an excerpt, it feels so good to be back in this world. These characters are just as quirky and fun as they were in the first book, and the writing that I loved so much is there as well. The “found family” aspect is one of my favorite things about this book, and I’m glad to see it explored more, especially with Linus now as a proper member. I’m also interested in how this different sort of conflict will pan out given all that happened in the first book. I’m looking forward to reading the full book when it releases!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for sending me a copy in exchange for a review.
What can I say. The Cerulean Sea was one of my favourite books and I am so happy to be back in the world with Arthur and Linus and the kids. Beautiful writing, stunning characters and a fantastic plot. You can’t go wrong with this series.
Love this excerpt so much!! Really looking forward to getting the read the full version when it comes out. I really appreciate how the characters are starting to be developed.
Thank you for this ARC.
I am counting down the days until this book is released. House in the Cerulean Sea is one of the best books I have read. The sequel did not disappoint.
Each new TJ Klune is better than the last. Klune could write an adaptation of the phone book and I’d read it. Somewhere Beyond The Sea is every bit the cozy, warm hug that Cerulean Sea was. I loved going back to Marsyas and to this delightful, surprising found-family. The happy ending was everything our community needs right now. I’m so grateful for lovely, queer stories like this.
TJ Klune once again has written what seems to be a fitting sequel to House in the Cerulean Sea. The excerpt shared with me stopped at the end of Chapter 4 and it was a cliffhanger I am anxious to hear the resolution of.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read the first few chapters of this much awaited sequel and what I read was just as lovely and wonderfully cozy as the first book. The first real chapter of the book alone is so full of domestic sweetness that it'll leave you will toothaches. However, this definitely seems like it will be tackling heavier topics than House in the Cerulean Sea did and based on what I've read so far I cannot wait to read the rest! For now, it's a 3.5/5 rounded up to four. I'm sure my review will change when I've had a chance to read the rest of the book.
I checked 3 times to make sure this wasn't just an excerpt, and yet it was only 5 chapters. Sigh.
The writing is great and I look forward to the full book!
it’s hard to provide an effective review for a short excerpt of a book, but this was very effective at getting me excited for reading the rest of the book when it comes out!
I liked the first chapters but felt misled as it did not indicate that it was only an excerpt. I can’t rate it appropriately on such a small sample so I’m giving it a middle of the road rating. It got me excited to read it but I was already excited to read it.
Was so excited to get a preview of this book! I loved the small sample and I can’t wait to read the full book!
Did I get catfished by @torbooks or @netgalley ???? I feel duped and pissed!!! I got the arc for tjklunebooks next novel, the highly anticipated sequel to The House In The Cerulean Sea. I was soooo excited to obtain it and squealed with glee! So today I sat down to start it and quickly came to the end. Like within an hour. Why you ask? Because they only shared the first 4 chapters. I would rather have gotten denied, knowing only a small percentage of early readers got it, than be tricked and waste my time reading a section of a book that doesn’t come out for another month. Nowhere on NetGalley did it say a sample, but when I went back to my Kindle it said “excerpt.” So if you are a book nerd like me and it’s queued up in your Kindle, WAIT FOR THE ACTUAL BOOK AND SKIP THIS NONSENSE.
Who the hell wants to read a few chapters months before the book comes out, only to have to re-read it when it does? So thank you @netgalley for this 1/8 of an arc in exchange for my honest review 🤦🏻♀️
What a great opening excerpt for this book. I highly anticipate the full book and can't wait to find out what happens with Arthur. To have his beginning story told and get to return to island is such a treat.

As this is only the first four chapters of this book, I can't give a complete review because that would not be honest.
But I can say it started off good, introducing Arthur when he rebuilt the orphanage and a little peek into his more distant past. Then the next chapter had the wonderful and funny antics of the children, which I could not help laughing at.
Then my excitement dwindled as the story continued, Author leaving the island to make his public statement. Politics.... and that's where this sneak peek ended, on a downhill.
Had I known this was only an excerpt, (which it was not listed as (and on NetGalley sometimes is and sometimes isn't listed as such! Not very transparent!)) I would have never requested a copy. I can't give an honest review because I don't know how the story ends.
I also cannot give an age range because I don't know what is hidden in the rest of the book!
Will I get this book? Maybe, sometime in the future, but I am no longer excited about it. Sure I do want to find out how it ends, and to find out if my guesses are correct, but I find, now that I've read this sample, that I can wait and give my official review then, along with sharing my opinion on my social media sites.
Since I couldn't read the entire book, my first impression isn't the best. And because I have to give a rating...
3 Stars
Bummed this was just four chapters. Feels misleading. Especially as it starts pretty confusing and bouncing around timelines
