I don't know how to review a preview of a book, but the first four chapters have me hooked, which is unsurprising as this is my most anticipated read of the year.

An expected 5 star read! The first four chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea are absolutely delightful. Such a powerful and thought provoking opening to the highly anticipated sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea. I have thoroughly enjoyed digging into Arthur’s backstory a little more and am absolutely thrilled to see what is to come. While I love all of the Cerulean Chronicles children, Lucy and Theodore are probably two of my all time favorite characters. I can’t wait to read more!

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Tor Publishing Group, and TJ Klune for the opportunity to read this excerpt.

I absolutely adored TJ Klune's "House in the Cerulean Sea" - it's essentially a big warm rainbow hug in book form. So when I saw that a sequel was coming, I could not have been more delighted. And after reading this early excerpt, I am even more excited. Whereas the first book was all about finding (or creating) a world where you can be accepted and loved for who you are, it looks like "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" will be dealing more directly with the struggle to keep that world safe, for yourself and for everyone around you.

I can't wait to see where the rest of the story takes us!

I did the mistake of not checking the title properly. I didn't realize it was just an excerpt. I find those pointless and impossible to review.
Potentially 3 stars for the excerpt? It seems to retain much of what readers loved about the first book but for only an excerpt it was also a little slow at times.
I would like the full book. Until than I really am not sure. It has potential. TJ Klune is an amazing writer. But is it going to be as good as the first? No idea.

There are some authors you read and you have a full on emotional breakdown in belief that you do not deserve them.

That is TJ Klune.

He brings me to my knees with each and every book he publishes.

Each and every time, without fail, I fall more and more in love (and destroyed) in all the best ways possible.

My first Klune book was The House in the Cerulean Sea, this was the beginning of the end. After concluding, I realized, I will never ever read a book that would touch my soul the way that this one did. It was game over. I was a thriller loving, murder seeking, black soul who had just fallen in love with? idealism? fantasy? family? Well, when I heard the news that Somewhere Beyond the Sea was being written I knew there was no way I could wait, I HAD to get my hands on this book.

Although this is only an excerpt, I can tell you I love it, I can't wait, I am completely and totally freaking out.

I find myself in the grocery store line and chatting it up with the person behind me "hey, did you know TJ Klune is coming out with a sequel", Starbucks, neighborhood bar, you name it, im shouting it..

Everyone needs to have this on their wishlist!

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is the hugely anticipated sequel to TJ Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea, one of the best-loved and best-selling fantasy novels of the past decade.

A magical house. A secret past. A summons that could change everything.

Arthur Parnassus lives a good life, built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six magical and so-called dangerous children who live there.

Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. And he is not alone: joining him is the love of his life, Linus Baker, a former caseworker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth; Zoe Chapelwhite, the island’s sprite; and her girlfriend, Mayor Helen Webb. Together, they will do anything to protect the children.

But when Arthur is summoned to make a public statement about his dark past, he finds himself at the helm of a fight for the future that his family, and all magical people, deserve.

And when a new magical child hopes to join them on their island home—one who finds power in calling himself monster, a name Arthur worked so hard to protect his children from—Arthur knows they’re at a breaking point: their family will either grow stronger than ever or fall apart.

Welcome back to Marsyas Island. This is Arthur’s story.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a story of resistance, lovingly told, about the daunting experience of fighting for the life you want to live and doing the work to keep it.

Thank you to Tor Books and TJ Klune for an advanced excerpt of this book.

I loved House in the Cerulean Sea, so I was so excited to be able to read the first few chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Reading these first few chapters, September 10th cannot come fast enough. I fell in love with the characters in the first book and to come back to them and read their growth, even in these short chapters, made me wish I had the rest of the book. I already know this is going to be a favorite of mine.
