Absolutely loved this excerpt. It feel so good to come back to the characters we fell in love with during the first book. The warmth and love was still there. I enjoyed that he is tackling current issues in this book. I can’t wait for more!

If it tells you anything, I saw this book pop up on NetGalley and requested it so fast that I didn't realize it was an "excerpt" until I started reading it this morning and grew suspicious upon reaching the 30% mark so quickly. This realization rocked my world, as once I started reading this book I did not want to stop. I read the entire excerpt in one sitting, and the fact I have to wait until September to finish the story is not pleasant, because I simply must know what Arther and Linus will do next. Regardless, I've already laughed out loud multiple times; the children in this universe bring me an absurd amount of joy. Additionally, I think this universe is the perfect vessel to discuss governmental/societal oppression in all its forms, which is so fitting given the laws being passed and acts being committed right now. I applaud TJ Klune for continuing to use his books to bring light to these matters while simultaneously creating bright, safe spaces for queer readers. Really, I have no complaints, and will be tearing into my physical copy the second it arrives in the mail. This excerpt was the perfect read for Pride Month!

This is a wonderful excerpt and I am excited to read the full novel. I know that patrons will also be excited and I anticipate many holds and checkouts.

I can't wait to read the rest of Arthur's story. I am so invested in finding out what happens to him and Linus (as well as the kids and Zoe). Great introduction to the second book in the series!

I was so excited to receive this 4-chapter excerpt in exchange for an honest review. The first book is one of my absolute favorite books- i was taken by the charm, humor and overall wholesomeness of the story and characters. This book- at least from what i read- seems to capture the same cozy vibe and I’m looking forward to reading the rest once released!

Thank you to NetGalley and TOR for the ARC!

Didn't pay enough attention and didn't sea this was just an excerpt (100% my fault). While I am so excited that I got a taste, the first four chpters were more than enough to get me hooked. I love Klune's writing style, particularly the whimsy, and can't wait to definitely buy this book in full.

"Somewhere Beyond The Sea" is another exquisite masterpiece by TJ Klune. This book delves into themes of friendship, chosen family, love, and magic, while also addressing justice, fairness, the state of the world, equality, and rights.

I am deeply grateful to NetGalley and Tor Books Publishing Group for granting me the privilege of reading the first four chapters of this enchanting novel. I eagerly await the release on September 10, 2024, with bated breath.

I wish this had been the entire book and not just the excerpt as it is hard to give a review from only 4 chapters. But, it was fun to revisit these characters. The story did feel more cheesy and obvious than the first, but I still enjoy Klune's cozy vibe.

I was pretty excited to get an early copy of this new book…I loved The House! I did a reread (listen) of book 1 to prepare for book 2 and am loving it…hoping to get my hands on the full book to give it a proper review.

I listened to The House in the Cerulean Sea and fell in love with characters and the world built by TJ Klune. The audiobook was done incredibly well.

I received an ARC of the first few chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea and I can tell I’m going to love it too. This is a continuation for the story, but moreso focuses on Arthur’s story— past and present.

Arthur Parnassus is the Master of the Marsyas orphanage for magical youth. He is asked to recount his time as a magical youth and the mistreatment he received.

**Full review to follow once book is published and I get to finish the story

Thank you to NetGalley and TOR Books for the ARC excerpt in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I was only able to read an excerpt, but I believe this book is relevant and is going to explore heavy hot topics. Ultimately, this book is going to present Arthur’s story as Arthur and Linus travel to testify and promote a fairer experience for magical youth. However, as they prepare to testify they are met head on by a person ready to tear down Arthur in order to advance her own career. She also intends to ensure that LGBTQIA+ couples, such as Linus and Arthur, are stripped of everything they hold dear. I really look forward to reading the rest of the book and exploring how Klune tackles such an important topic.

Loved this book and all the original characters. The expressive way he writes describes the events as if you are watching a picture and I was immediately reconnected to the emotions of the characters I am so intrigued to see what happens!

Can I tell you how much I squealed when I saw I was approved to read the first four chapters of this book? The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my all-time favourite books and I have been hoping that a sequel would come. I can't wait for September!
The first four chapters of this book immediately captured my attention. The reader is transported back to the house and see Arthur and Linus and the children living happily together, as they should. Arthur must go back to London though to face a trial against DICOMY and their treatment of children. With this we begin to see the story of Arthur's life unfold. We learn all about how he ended up back at the house and what those early days were like. I can't wait to read the rest of this and learn where this story will go. This series has my heart. Infinite number of stars, always.

A thoroughly endearing and heartfelt sequel to "The House in the Cerulean Sea" that will cause the best kind of chaos and then comfort in the hearts of readers! "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" has such a big spirit to it - vibrant and imaginative, and yet also feels a bit like homecoming. Readers who loved Klune's first book in this world will absolutely be delighted by the antics of familiar faces and new arrivals, and will want to sit down and reread the book again. Even from just an excerpt, this sequel is obviously going to be a smash.

Klune once again brings back his well-loved characters from his previous work of fiction while adding in new ones. A magical reality is what awaits you when you start reading. Klune brings up social issues while also making his characters relatable (even 'Lucifer's Spawn'!). If I could spend even a day with the characters, I would! I can't wait until the title releases so I can read the rest!

This excerpt was such a beautiful start to a book I just KNOW will be a 5 star read for me. The whole crew is back, but TJ Klune adds a sense of mystery with the prologue. I definitely want to learn more about Arthur’s past. In addition, learning that him and Linus are going into the city to fight against the councils made me so anxious. I was hooked immediately and I cannot wait to read more!

The cliffhanger was tough! I’m not sure how I’m going to wait to read this in September. I am so excited for this book to continue one of my favorite stories.

I am soo excited about this!! I didn’t realize it was only an excerpt but now I want the rest of it!
This seems we’re getting an in-depth to Arthur Parnassas. I love the social activism role this book is playing but at the same time how close and sweet both Linus and Arthur are with the kids. This goes to heal so many things within me and again, am very excited.
Thank you!’

I can't wait to get back to the magical world and the magical children! This is such a cozy read, and this time, there seems to be a promise to explore a bit more about Arthur's past, and the society in general. Super excited about the upcoming book!

Thanks to NetGalley and Tor for the preview chapters!

Getting this excerpt was such an incredible honor. I know it’s just the first four chapters, but I’m already hooked into the continuation of Arthur, Linus, and the kids.

Cry count: 2

Awwwww count: 3

I love love love this family and can’t wait to see how the story pans out and how TJ continues to write these stories for LGBTQIA 🏳️‍🌈 families.
