I was so excited to dive back into the expertly crafted world by T.J. Klune and read an excerpt from the much-anticipated sequel to "The House on the Cerulean Sea." From the very first page, I was whisked away into a world of magic, charm, and profound themes that I have been missing since finishing book one!
Returning to the beloved characters, particularly the magical children, felt like reuniting with old friends.
Though I only got four chapters, I can tell their journey in this sequel will not only deepens their own personal growth but also expands upon the enchanting universe created by Klune.
What truly sets this book apart is its unwavering commitment to representation and the exploration of crucial themes surrounding acceptance and basic human rights. The Klune seamlessly weaves these important messages into the narrative, reminding readers of the beauty in diversity and the power of empathy.
The level of detail and intricacy in the world-building is nothing short of remarkable. Each page is brimming with vivid imagery and imaginative concepts that transport readers to a place where the extraordinary feels entirely plausible.
I absolutely can not wait to read the rest of this book (especially since the excerpt left on a massive cliff hanger). It's a testament to the power of storytelling to uplift, educate, and ignite the imagination. A five-star read that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a magical escape filled with joy, love, and profound meaning.
This is hands down the most exciting ARC I’ve ever been allowed to read and it was only four chapters! If you know me then you know TJ Klune can do no wrong in my eyes, he walks on water and was blessed by the gods above. Every single thing he writes is magic and potato soup for the soul (it’s way better than chicken).. this is the sequel to The House in The Cerulean Sea and will be available for purchase September 10, 2024…yes I’ve already preordered it in hardback with sprayed edges cuz I’m fance ✨
Anyway! This is Arthur’s story and though I only got a peek at four chapters, each and every single page felt like coming home. At the beginning Arthur makes his way back to the house that will become their home. He’s been gone decades and left all those years ago directly following a traumatic event. Arthur takes us on a journey and we get to see some of our favorite characters all over again and it feels like getting a hug from someone you love where you can breathe and your shoulders relax and you can just be. That’s how it feels. I laughed and teared up at the wholesome sweetness and even got a little angry at the end, though I know Arthur and Linus will take care of business. I hope Larmina sticks around because they need more people like her on their side and I’d like to get to know her better. I will never not love a storyline where beloved characters stand up for what is right, for themselves and those that they love.
Two quotes I love that won’t give anything away 💛
“Potatoes and Portugal,” Chauncey said
“Hate is loud. We are louder.”
Thank you TJ Klune, NetGalley & Tor.com Publishing

Can't believe I was fool enough to fall for an EXCERPT and I ended up teasing myself on this so badly. More please more!
It was a privilege to read the first 4 chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I felt like I was transported right back into TJ Klune's world with my favourite magical beings. They make my heart melt, and had me giggling at their shenanigans. I'm SO excited to meet David and see how Klune continues to address important issues in his work. I'm ready for the rest of the book, waiting for September is going to be tough!!
I received an excerpt (the first four chapters) of this book from Tor and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed The House in the Cerulean Sea, and those kids have my heart! I was really excited to get the excerpt. The book opens with a flashback to Arthur’s first return back to the island after he left and his hard work to restore the home to how we see it in Cerulean Sea.
The kids are back, and gosh, how I still love them! How they are also growing up! Chauncey is still my favorite aspiring bellhop. I was giggling at their antics, and the found family vibes are absolutely still present in Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Arthur and Linus travel to the city for Arthur to testify in front of government on behalf of magical beings, and as you can imagine, there are some big opponents to their message.
I enjoyed the first four chapters a lot, but it’s hard to judge the whole book based on it. That said, I’m very much looking forward to reading this book when it’s published September 10, 2024.
I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea so much, and I was so happy to revisit this world! This was only a 4 chapter excerpt, but I still clutched my heart countless times in heartwarming glee and happiness while reading. I cannot wait for this book to come out!
There was definitely a clear political allegory being set up, but Linus and Arthur balance out each other’s insecurities so beautifully that I can only hope they stay strong during this inevitable struggle. I am also excited to meet David and see how he fits in with the other children! And it was fun to see all the children again and get reacquainted with each of their personalities, with a special shout out to Lucy. I was reminded why I love TJ Klune's writing style - he immerses me in a world of colour and joy that tickles every corner or my brain.
It’s hard to say much about only four chapters, but I felt so many emotions and was so sad it’s over that it definitely upped my anticipation for this book release. Thank you NetGalley for the excerpt! Definitely going to do a reread before this release!
I read the first four chapters through an advance copy excerpt. It was wonderful! I already laughed and cried. I cannot wait for the rest of the book to come out. The writing is witty and the characters heartwarming. I like the way Klune is directly speaking out about the issues facing the queer and transgender communities today. This book is going to be spectacular.
I loved this little look at Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I have missed these characters and cannot wait for the full book to publish. The writing was great as always. I’m looking forward to meeting the new character hinted at as well. Love ❤️
This was the best little teaser for the book, I loved being dropped back into this story. I cannot wait for the book to release so I can see what happens!
The Somewhere Beyond the Sea Excerpt is everything I needed and more! I was transported right back into this magical world. From the excerpt alone, I felt all the cozy "warm hug" vibes that the first book gave me. Every character is so wonderfully unique and magical in their own way, and I cannot help but fall in love with them all, over and over again. It doesn't matter how long it's been since you've read the first book - you'll be able to come back into the story right away. I simply cannot wait for the entire book to be released... this beautiful excerpt was the perfect little tease!
The prologue made me tear up, and then as soon as I started chapter one it felt like walking in the front door of my childhood home. I was cozy and safe and everything was familiar and magical and just as it was supposed to be. I was already excited for this book, but after reading these first few chapters I can't wait to be a part of the journey these characters will go on. All of our most favourite characters are back, we are being introduced to others that seem like they are going to play a big role and we have yet to meet a new addition to the family. I can't wait for more!
First, thank you so much to NetGalley and Tor Publishing for the opportunity to read an excerpt of "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" By T.J. Klune in exchange for my honest review.
I was insanely excited to read this excerpt, as its predecessor "The House on the Cerulean Sea" is one of my favorite books!
The four chapters I read threw me back into the magical world of Arthur Parnassus, Linus Baker, and the six Magical Children of the school/ orphanage. And... it was so good to be back!
The excerpt sucked me in, had me laughing so hard, that I kept re-reading parts and highlighting them so I could visit again, and of course, had me cheering and awwing for Arthur and Linus as they set off to the mainland to face 'Extremely upper management' and fight for the six magical children they are not only in the care of but think of as their own but for the future of other magical children and their rights and the possibility of teaching and caring for them as well.
Arthur and Linus are both so loving, fierce and just the best! Those six children are lucky to have them as the adults are lucky to have the children; Chauncey, Talia, Phee, Lucy, Theodore, and Sal. The children are so kind-hearted, and selfless, even though they have been treated unfairly by outsiders, and they truly do have a heart, unlike the people who are against who they are because of what they are. The ones who follow the "See something, say something" advice.
The way except left off has me clamoring for more! I cannot wait till September so I can finish the book, and see what happens next!
T.J. Klune is an amazing writer, one of my absolute favorites! His words and the worlds he creates are so creative, and magical! The way he forms a character makes them come to life throughout the pages and makes them feel like real people. He knows how to make his readers feel every emotion of the characters, he makes you cry, he makes you laugh, he makes you happy, and angry and most of all he makes you care enough to scream on the rooftop about how much you love his books, his characters and him!
I love everything so far T.J. Klune! Keep it coming! :)
The excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea was just a taste of what I can expect from the whole book and it left me wanting MORE! I really liked where it was going. I can't wait to be immersed in the trial with DICOMY and meet David the Yeti. I am a little worried that we won't get as much of the other characters in this book whom I ADORE. Talia, Theodore, Sal, Lucy, and, Chauncey, and Phee have my heart. I'm really excited to read the rest when it's released.
Thank you to Netgalley and Tor Publishing Group!
Thank you to TJ Klune for giving me the opportunity to read this excerpt of Somewhere Beyond The Sea through NetGalley! This sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea publishes September 10th, 2024
“Hate is loud. We are louder”
While this excerpt was only 4 chapters, I cannot stress enough how important the messaging of this book is. At face value, we follow this found family of extremely unique individuals who have bubbly personalities of varying degrees. Delving deeper, we follow Arthur and Linus’s found family as they fight to be heard that otherness is not bad. Being unique and different does not justify ostracizing and hate.
The excerpt ended just as Arthur and Linus were going to testify at the Council of Utmost Importance. I am truly rooting for each and every character and hoping that Arthur and Linus can begin to chip away at the public prejudice against magical beings 🫶🏽💗
While it feels silly to rate a books just off of 4 chapters, I can already tell that this sequel is shaping up to be a 5⭐️ read, just like the first book!
This was only an excerpt but I'm already so so excited to read this?
I can't wait to read more about this cast of characters and what they get into!
I'm so angry I grabbed this book without realizing it was only the first four chapters. From the very first page, I felt like I was transported back to the cozy, familial home on the island. Klune has proven time and time again to have a knack for balancing sweetness with story. While I can only speak to the beginning of the book, I was absolutely ready to stay up late into the night to finish reading. If these first four chapters are an indicator for the rest of the story, I have no doubt this will be a wonderful addition to the series. Likely to be an excellent read for anyone looking for something warm to read. Naturally, I'll be reading the full book when it releases and updating my review then to reflect it, but at this moment in time, I'm very eager to continue reading.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for the advanced excerpt.
I did not know this was just going to be an expert but i loved reading this excerpt! I'm dying to read the full book!
The House in the Cerulean Sea was one of my favorite books in 2021, so I jumped at the chance to have this sneak peek at Book #2! This excerpt did not disappoint! I love how the author brought all the characters back to life for me by revisiting the backstory in a way that felt natural and not at all forced. I can't wait to grab the full copy. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance sneak peek!
What a little tease! But it was just enough to remind me of how much I love this world and, more importantly, how much I love these characters! Please allow me to read the full novel!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this excerpt in exchange for my honest review.
The House in the Cerulean Sea was one of my favorite magical realism books I have ever read, so I am very excited to read this full book! The excerpt was great, but I honestly was just left wanting more! Klune is back with his signature style and he's delivering these beautiful characters once again.
