Safe to say I'm even more excited by this sequel having read the excerpt. It's so lovely to see the family that Linus and Arthur have cultivated, back at it again, and this time with something to really fight for.
I have had this book preordered since it was announced so perhaps I am a little biased, but wow this excerpt containing the first four chapters was incredible! I loved diving back into this world and seeing even more beautiful character development. It was so sweet to read of the character dynamics and relationships since the ending of The House in the Cerulean Sea. I also love how this is such a cozy comfort series to me and yet it addresses such important topics so powerfully. TJ Klune has such a way with words and I am beyond excited to read the book in its entirety come September.
The house in the cerulean sea is one of my all time favorite books. Somewhere beyond the sea is a perfect sequel to give the reader a full picture of what happened “after”. To be honest I am sad this was only an excerpt as I simply cannot wait for the fall when the full story is released. The writing style is true to TJ Klune which is a big reason why I enjoy reading these books so much. His story telling is unrivaled. I will be posting a full review on my TikTok when I have the privilege of reading the complete story.
I really wasn’t expecting a sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea (especially 4 years later), but oh my goodness I forgot how much I adored these characters! Especially hilariously adorable Chauncey.
Gotta say, 4 chapters felt like quite a bit of a tease, especially considering how eager I was to hear what Arthur had to say at his hearing (very intrigued by Arthur as a whole and his back story). But I suppose that just makes me all the more excited to continue this book when it’s available!
I can’t wait to read on and immerse myself back into this lovely world. So far, SO good!!
I can’t believe there is a sequel and it is nothing short of amazing! This book will absolutely be on my “ to be read AGAIN l list. I could not put it down!
Ahh it’s like going back home to the island. I was bummed to find this was only an excerpt (should’ve read the title better, but I got excited!). But reading about all my favorite characters again was exactly what I needed and made me so eager for the entire book. The snippet before the chapters begin had me really wondering what’s to come in this story. Excited to read the full book!
Thank you Netgally, Tor Publishing and TJ Klune for an ARC excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea!
This excerpt was the prologue and the first 4 chapters and I was instantly brought back into the home and family from House in the Cerulean Sea. Without spoilers this gives all the same warm fuzzy feelings of the first book with an exciting and nerve-wracking storyline that has be desperate for the rest of the book. September can't come soon enough!
What a tease only getting the first 4 chapters! I absolutely cannot wait to finish this and dive back in to this world.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader excerpt of TJ Klune's "Somewhere Beyond the Sea".
I wept. To the point where I couldn't see the page. In part because I was returning to the beautiful world of Arthur and Linus but mainly because I didn't realise only the first four chapters were given to advanced readers. I wept hard. And then I got in my car, drove to the nearest bookstore, bought "The House in the Cerulean Sea" and spent the rest of my Sunday reading (again while weeping).
Don't misunderstand me, this is joyful weeping. The emotions these books bring out are intense. The love TJ Klune describes is so joyful and pure it makes your heart sing.
In this sequel, Arthur and Linus have travelled to the city to testify about his experience as a magical youth in care. In the face of hatred, vile commentary, and hostility Arthur and Linus are fighting for the safe future of their family and all magical beings. The sequel also introduces a new member of the Marsyas Island family, a magical youth who's troubled past may prove to be Arthur's toughest challenge.
Excuse me while I go and preorder the hardcovers of both books.
Arthur and Linus leave the children on the island to go back to the city. They’ve been invited to take part in a meeting for the magical beings. When they get there they quickly find out it’s much larger than what they’ve been led to believe.
I can’t wait for the rest of the book! I must know everything! I love the message already starting within the first 4 chapters. It touches on trauma and I’m here for it.
Thank you netgalley and Tor books for this early excerpt. I look forward to finishing the entire book upon release date.
What utter pain that this is a mere excerpt when I text all my friends I got the advanced copy. Obviously this excerpt was lovely and I cannot wait to read the full thing.
This excerpt was so sweet. I'm really looking forward to the full book!! I love Arthur and Linus, and seeing Arthur try to save kids from the same horrible childhood he had is so wonderful. Can't wait until September!
Absolutely amazing!! I was worried at first this book would not live up to the standards of the others. It did not - it SURPASSED them! I cannot wait for the full length book to come out!!
I absolutely loved House in the Cerulean Sea and I am so excited all my favorite characters are back. I was hooked from the beginning and I can't wait to read the full thing!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for the ARC of this except from Somewhere Beyond the Sea.
I was disappointed to realize that this was only an excerpt of the novel but I’m still very excited for the full book! Based on the initial pages, it seems as if this will be another phenomenal book!
House in the Cerulean Sea had me at the cover but it's so much more. I've recommended it over and over, its just a feel good read. My hopes for Somewhere Beyond the Sea were set high. This excerpt is a tease, but reminds me of the beautiful journey TJ Klune takes his readers on. The imagery and creative language just floats you as a reader. Enjoy the experience. I'm looking forward to reading the full version of this one.
The feeling when you request your most anticipated book of the year from NetGalley and you get approved…but it was an excerpt, not the entire book.
TJ Klune’s books, “The House in the Cerulean Sea” and “Under the Whispering Door,” were both my absolute favorites the years they were published. And when I heard he was planning a sequel to “Cerulean,” I was so excited. That book truly is like a gigantic hug.
The excerpt I read was (I think) the first few chapters, and if the remainder of the book is even half as good, I know what my favorite book of 2024 will be. The themes of unconditional love, found family, finding your own joy, and protecting those you love shined through these chapters, and I felt myself smiling and getting choked up already.
Sadly, as Tom Petty once said, the waiting is the hardest part. And it sure will be hard to wait until 9/10 for the book to be published. But the thought of getting to spend more time with Arthur, Linus, Lucy, Phee, Chauncey, Theodore, and Talia will help the days fly! #iykyk
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Tor Books for the gift of the excerpt. You can bet I’ll keep checking for the full book!!
I loved this excerpt so much! I had missed the characters and TJ's writing so was eager to read this and see what it was going to be about. I have already pre-ordered my copy but hope to read an advanced copy since I enjoyed his first book about The House SO much! What a wonderful story! I love Arthur and Linus and their love story so much. It was fun to welcome the characters back into my world.
My literal only problem with this is that it's an excerpt. Klune clearly knows what he's doing, diving in quickly with the characters that we all fell in love with. I cannot wait until September and the rest of the book is available.
All I can say is this is an awesome sequel and I enjoyed every moment. If you like HOTCS, you will like this.
