So excited to get this excerpt!
While the prologue was definitely impactful, I wasn't sure exactly of how necessary it was (though after the end of chapter 4, I have a feeling I won't feel this way for long). I loved jumping into Chapter 1 and seeing where these amazing characters have been. Absolutely so curious to see where the rest of this story is going!
Over the last few years, TJ Klune has become an auto buy/read author for me. He beautifully masters the combination of fun and heartbreak all at once. I love his work and after reading this excerpt, I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest! I will because I don't have a choice, but still.
I am officially HOOKED! I absolutely cannot wait to read "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" in its fullest. TJ Klune is one to (continue to) watch!
I received a copy of the first four chapters from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. As these are only the first few chapters, my review and rating will be updated as needed after reading the full book.
This story picks up from Arthur's POV almost exactly where House in the Cerulean Sea ends. Whether this book was originally planned as a sequel or not, the characters still all sound the same, and Arthur is a distinct voice from Linus, which isn't always true of POV shifts.
I do get the sense that this might be harder to read than the previous book. While the people are the same and the humor is still there, it's dealing with the aftermath of trauma and a government that minority groups know is often against us directly, instead of the indirect approach that Linus demonstrated.
Apart from a slightly confusing start (which I hope gets addressed more later in the book), this promises to be very good and I am looking forward to reading it when it comes out.
**Thank you NetGalley and Tor for an excerpt of this title in exchange for an honest review**
This excerpt has me excited for this sequel and has solidified that I need to preorder this book! Just from the first few chapters, I can tell that readers who love The House in the Cerulean Sea will be very happy with where this story is going. We're immediately reacquainted with old favorites, but it's clear that they've grown since we last joined them which I enjoyed. There were many times where I found myself having to stop because I was laughing so much at the characters which I loved about the first book. The stakes do feel a bit higher in this one than in the first book, but not overly so. It's still very much a cozy fantasy in my opinion.
Very excited to read the whole book to see what happens when it comes out!
I'm so excited to go back to Marsyas Island and to learn about Arthurs back story. I cannot wait for the full book!
I’m desperately wishing I had the full manuscript. I loved House in the Cerulean Sea and am so excited to be back on the island and to see my favorite characters once again. This seems to be more Arthur focused and I love that we’re going to get more of the family and learn about his character more. Just as immersive as the first, this was a pleasant sneak peek.
Ahhhh this is going to be so great! Can’t wait for September!!! The excerpt was definitely a tease and the next 4 months are going to be a long wait but I have no doubt it will be worth it!
Didn't realize this was just an excerpt when I requested... but once I got over that disappointment, I was wowed! Needless to say, this looks like it will be excellent! Can't wait for the full story. Every new book by this author is a treat.
When I requested this, it didn't say excerpt. I don't want to read it bc the book doesn't come out until September and I won't be able tomwait bc I know it will be good!
Now I am really excited to read this one. This was the perfect teaser and I will be preordering the book!
I AM SO SAD THIS IS JUST AN EXCERPT. But. I still loved it. I CANNOT WAIT for this full book. I am so so so excited. I am intrigued to see more.
As an avid fan of The House in the Cerulean Sea since its release in 2020 I was extremely excited to see this excerpt available for preview. It was such a joy to be back in the company of some of my very favorite literary characters. With any sequel there is always the fear going in that some of the magic of the first book will be lost. Luckily that does not seem to be the case here, at least in the small section available at this time. The kids are just as delightful as always, especially Chauncey who has always had a special place in my heart. Seeing the relationship between Arthur and Linus progress is such a joy as well. I cannot wait for the full book to be released later this year!
The excerpt was just enough to make the next few months of waiting excruciatingly painful. And without giving anything away, we rejoin our favorite phoenix, caseworker, and their beloved magical children on the same island in the same sea.
The characters we came to love in Cerulean are a little older and even more endearing -- and, we're going to meet a new magical child who we may be welcoming to the family! It's clear that in this novel, we're going to learn much, much more about Arthur Parnassus' life before we met him in the first book. There's some darkness that is going to come to light as he continues his fight to protect his family.
It's also quite clear that there's going to be a lot of love and heartache in this one. Now that they all know the depth of their love for their found-family, they have a lot more to lose. Let's just say, I'm ready to board the ferry back to the island.
Let the countdown begin! It's due out September 10th!
Another wonderful book with Arthur, Linus snd the children. Now I just need it to be September so I can read the whole book! This was wonderful to have a few chapters to see what is going on, but now I need the whole book!!
So I opened this to read and I didn't read "excerpt" when I requested it. I absolutely fell in love with House by the Cerulean Sea and stayed up late into the night finishing that book years ago. I did not finish this excerpt because I am impatient and knew I would be desperate for the whole story so I just chose to read it when it comes out. Love TJ Klune!
This Review is only based upon the excerpt provided by NetGally and the Publisher for approximately 70 pages of digital content.
I cannot wait for the full length release of this book if the excerpt is a brief glimpse. Not only do we get to glimpse Arthur as he returns to the house before he and his found family reestablish the strange orphanage by turning old wounds into new and magical memories; we see the present, and Arthur, Linus, and the magical children and new obstacles they now have to work through to protect themselves and their home. We may only get a few peeks into what the true journey may be and what will unfold, but I cannot wait to see how resilient they are when fighting for the ones they love.
I am absolutely giving this excerpt 5* because I am so excited to finish reading the rest. September cannot come soon enough!
I absolutely adored The House in the Cerulean Sea, and am so excited for the sequel. This excerpt made me even more excited! I cannot wait to get my hands on the full one.
I didn't realize this was an excerpt, but all the same I'm glad I had an opportunity for an early peek. The House of the Cerulean Sea is one of my all time favorite books and it was a joy to jump back into that world with familiar characters. I was already looking forward to the release of this book and now even more so. Thanks for the early sneak peek!
The House by The Cerulean Sea is one of my all time favorite books and I was so excited to get this excerpt of the sequel! It seems like it will be just as special as the first book, and I can’t wait to read the whole thing! I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
