This was just a tease... A taste of the story you know is coming and already has a place on your TBR pile. The magical surroundings of the House makes you wish you could jump into the story and be there. I already knew I was going to read this book, but now, I can't wait.

This except made me so excited for the book to come out. It was so easy to jump back into this sequel with the characters and setting so familiar from the first book. TJ Klunes carefully discussion of important topics is so masterful I cannot wait to read the rest of this!

Shame on me for not realizing this was an excerpt, then getting very invested, only for it to abruptly end. It makes me very excited for September!

What an excerpt! Can't wait to read the whole story!! I love everything this author writes and was so excited to receive this ARC because I loved the first book!

The House on the Cerulean Sea was a remarkable timely read when it released as an increasingly intolerant world headed into the isolation of the pandemic, and it came as a much needed soothing, warm hug. This one picks up shortly after where the narrative left off, and is ostensibly about re-entering the world, ready to make some waves and stand up against injustice towards those who are different by those in power. Seems like a natural progression of combating the dispiriting zeitgeist with our favorite magical family, growing and claiming their right to exist and thrive, not just in isolation. I'm excited that this book is from Arthur's POV and not Linus's, which is a nice juxtaposition as he enters a world unfamiliar to him in the same way Linus had come to the island in the last book. The excerpt sets up a very ugly fight ahead of Arthur and Linus, but not before bringing us back to the utter joy of the family they have created. I cannot wait to read the rest!

Gah! I am so sad that I can’t read on! TJ Klune has done it again and from page one, has captured my attention with his amazingly beautiful characters and the heartwarming, lovely relationships between them. I loved picking up with the children who are even more settled and delightful, despite the fact that Arthur and Linus must leave them for the first time. The couple is off to the city to speak in front of the government in support of magical beings. I am on the edge of my seat and am going to be anxiously awaiting the release!!

Thank you so much, @netgalley for this Advanced Reader’s copy, I loved every word.

Dropped right back into the middle of the most magical world.. If the first 4 chapters are a sign of anything.. it's a sign that this book is going to be just as good as the House in the Cerulean Sea. Can't wait!

This excerpt was like taking a deep dive back into House in the Cerulean Sea! The cozy, whimsical, heartfelt vibes are there guys! This story starts off with Arthur returning to Marsyas Island after his traumatic childhood there and the incident in the cellar well before Linus and the children. He comes across Zoe Chapelwhite who seems hesitant about his return. He fixes up the home from ruins to house new dangerous and magical orphans like he once was and sends a letter to DICOMY. Fast forward where he is now with Linus and the six children we came to love in the first book. We have our familiar characters, Arthur, Linus, Zoe, and the children and it was so nice to go back to Marsyas! When Arthur is summoned to testify about his childhood on the island in hopes of bettering the magical community and keep them safe and in turn it looks like DICOMY is out to burn his reputation to the ground. Klune’s writing is effervescent yet profound and I can tell this story is going to be deeper and more heartfelt in typical Klune fashion! With only the prologue and 4 chapters (cliffhanger anyone?), I can tell I’m going to love this book. I cannot wait for this to release to finish Arthur’s story!

“See me for who I am. I am magic.”

Thanks to NetGalley and Tor Books Publishing Group, I was able to read an excerpt of this book prior to its release date!

I was a huge fan of The House in the Cerulean Sea, so I was ecstatic when I heard there was going to be a sequel. I was even more excited when I got the email stating that I had the opportunity to read an excerpt. Reading the first four chapters of this book was like coming home to a warm hug. I absolutely love the cast of magical characters! The interactions between the children and Arthur and Linus are so wholesome and sweet.

I can already tell that this book is going to make a huge impact, as it deals with major themes surrounding trauma and healing. We also get to see Arthur stand up to the government and share his story of growing up on the island of Marsyas.

I've already got my final copy pre-ordered and I can't wait for this book to come out so I can found out what happens next!

Starting right where we left off but from Arthur's perspective and backstory, I'm only MORE excited to read the rest of this sequel and get back to these wonderful characters.

This has the same lovely, warm fuzzy feeling immediately that Cerulean Sea had. We get to see our fav characters again, have our hearts grow three sizes with their interactions, and get a glimpse of the struggles to come. This already makes it feel like this book will be just as special as the first. I can’t wait to read the whole thing!

Thank you to Tor for this sneak peak into Somewhere Beyond the Sea.
I have missed these characters so much and it made my heart happy to spend a few moments with them.
TJ Klune's writing paints beautiful pictures in my mind (if that even makes sense)

I am anxiously awaiting the release of this sequel.
I feel cheated and would like the rest of the book please and thank you.

Can't wait for the full book! Honestly shocked that only an excerpt was released for review, can't review much based off of a few chapters.

Well, I did not realize this was an excerpt when I requested and got this and wouldn't have requested it if I'd realized. Maybe that's my fault or maybe it's Netgalleys... not sure. I've never received an excerpt from Netgalley before and didn't know it was even a thing. I'm super disappointed. I've read maybe two chapters of ehat is apprently a 4 chapter excerpt. So far I do like it to be fair. However.... I do not want to finish it. Why would I read and review 4 Chapters now, just to forget what I read and have to reread it 5 months from now when the full book comes out? Nope. Just no. I like where the chapters are going so far, so stars for that but I am unhappy it's just a small section of the book and don't feel I can adequately review it having only few chapters to go off of.

What a sweet trip back to the cerulean sea. All of the characters seem to not have lost their charm or whimsy. Linus and Arthur are going on a trip back to the city to testify about the treatment of magical beings, so we’ll see where that takes us after Chapter 4. Can’t wait.

Not since Harry Potter has a story and a group of characters sparked my imagination and stayed in my heart. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I am so happy to be reunited with these unforgettable characters and see how their story plays out. I can’t wait for the rest of the book.

First off, I want to say thank you so much for this opportunity from Tor Books to review the sequel to the book that I was very much in love with last year. I am a huge fan of TJ Klune’s first book (The House in the Cerulean Sea), which I gave a five-star review on last year.

Therefore, as a brand spanking new reviewer for NetGalley, I want to give my one hundred percent opinion on how I feel about the first few chapters.

So first off, the premise of finally speaking out against the government six months after the first book kept me intrigued. Especially in Chapter 0 (Prologue) after glimpsing a bit into the past about how Arthur himself took something so traumatizing and made it into something that made him on top of the children he takes care of, safe and protected from the people who wish to cause them harm.

Healing Generational Trauma. Especially within certain groups and gaining rights is a huge hot topic right now. This is what we exactly need in 2024 due to Marginalized Groups being stripped of rights.

Secondly, I love how the government was keeping tabs on Arthur himself. Is he considered dangerous since he is a Pheniox? Is it because Magical Beings, including himself, are considered terrorists? Especially since he was hounded by reporters asking if the children (including the antichrist), were being contained.

But the characters? Oh goodness. That's what keeps me going. The characters felt real and flawed, created with realism intended. That mostly kept me drawn to the story, especially when I was introduced to them in the first book.

The one thing that did bother me, was the talk of Chauncey’s Cloaca and the boys’ penises in passing. I think it would turn some people off. I understand that the children may be going through puberty at that time and don’t understand social cues yet. But, it's a bit icky to hear about something like that. Lastly, it's not quite stated in Chapter Zero that it is the Prologue. I assumed it was going to be about Arthur growing and creating the Orphanage, which wasn’t the case.

I cannot wait until Fall to read/own this book. This is going to be yet another bestseller and I will be buying it.

An excerpt, but a fun tease to get me ready for the world again! I can't wait for September for the full story!

It has been quite a while since I’ve read something that immediately pulled me in and that I had to keep reading, though I’m not surprised this was the one to do that. It felt like visiting old friends. The character are full of life and, even with their magic, feel so real. I can’t wait to see where the story goes. I am hoping there will be more story that involves the children. With where the story was headed I was nervous they may not be featured. Regardless, I will absolutely be reading this the moment it comes out.
