I was given an excerpt through NetGalley that included the first 4 chapters of the story. Klune’s new novel drops the reader right back into the world of Cerulean Sea. It feels so good to reunite with the cast of lovable and magical characters, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the story when the book is released.
If you loved the first book, this will not disappoint!! I am especially excited to learn more about the world off of the island of Marsyas in the coming chapters.
I will need to be sedated until September 2024 because I can't waitttt to read this entire book!!! The House in the Cerulean Sea was undeniably my favourite cozy fantasy of 2023. I laughed, I cried, I was at a loss for words. Reading this excerpt immediately brought back those same emotions. I'm so excited!! Huge thanks to Net Galley, Tor Publishing Group, and T.J. Klune <3
I’m excited to read the entire book when it comes out! I enjoyed the quirky characters and setting in the first book. I hope that this next book will add even more depth to the characters and circumstances from Arthur’s perspective.
I downloaded this not realizing it was an excerpt, it’s in the title obviously but I was too excited to notice it! I can’t wait for the full edition, I have it preordered and thus was a fun teaser at what’s to come.
Thank you Netgalley, Tor and TJ Klune for the arc!
I devoured the excerpt and I am so excited to be back in this magical world. I loved the house in the cerulean sea and when I found out there was going to be a sequel I was over the moon. I'm very curious to see how this next book unfolds, I loved the few chapters that I got in the excerpt and will be waiting on pins and needles to get the rest!
I must start by thanking both NetGalley as well as the publisher Tor Books for my eARC excerpt in exchange for my honest review. That being said l can only give an opinion on a small part of the completed work as that unfortunately is all that was provided.
I very much enjoyed the first book, The House on the Curlean Sea, and feel like l have come home to the characters of that edition with this follow up. The excerpt is no more then a reintroduction and l feel it it unfair to review based on this. Therefore 3 Stars should not be seen as a fair rating but a half of what l hope the total will become.
Thank you to NetGalley, Tor Publishing Group, and TJ Klune for the advanced excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea!
I'm pretty devastated that this was only an excerpt since I only finished The House in the Cerulean Sea a few days ago. Despite this, I'm in love with it. Linus and Arthur's relationship is so sweet and from the excerpt, it seems like the plot line of this sequel will be very interesting indeed. I'm excited to read the rest!
The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my all time favorite books ever and when I heard there was a sequel, I had to have it. Somewhere Beyond the Sea focuses on Arthur’s story. This little excerpt teaser has made me rabid for more. I cannot wait for September!
The house in the cerulean sea is one of my favorite books. I was so excited to see that there was a sequel coming out as I couldn’t wait to see what happens next. Arthur returns to the island and restores it to be used by magic children .
The breakfast that the children for Linus to celebrate his birthday is both heartwarming and hilarious. the children mean well by making a complete mess of the kitchen.
Arthur and Linus are going to the main land to be the voice of those with magic. No idea what is going to happen next but I can’t wait to find out. I love how TJ Klune can build a beautiful world where all are accepted just as they are.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an excerpt from this book early.
Being able to return to Marsyas and see what everyone has been up to since The House in the Cerulean Sea was so refreshing and made me smile. They are such an amazing group of people who show what what love and family really means. In this story we are seeing things through the eyes of Arthur as he navigates his found family and works to show the world that magical people need the same rights and opportunities as anyone else.
This book will be released in September of 2024. I am so excited to see where this beautiful story goes.
I loved revisiting all my favorite characters from House in the Cerulean Sea. It felt so welcoming to be back! Every time I have read the first book and finished it. I felt like I was leaving home for a prolonged period of time amd always wanted to go right bsck in and restart it.
I do think this book comes much closer to reality as we discuss standing up for what we believe in. The metaphors when we discuss who we love, who we accept, who is equal in the eyes of the law won't be as hidden in the magic. We can't pretend it away like we did before. Reality is coming a knocking and it'll make readers question if they will make their stand or take the easy route! I think the shift into reality might be a shock for some readers and I don't think it would be a good starting point or introduction to the magic of TJ Klune--yes, it's a sequel, but how many readers don'tstart at the beginning for whatever reason? I think it may also be a slight turn off that it is so close to the harsh reality many face every day.
Regardless, I am excited to read about a new possible family member and the fight, both on the family-front and the legal-front will bring this world much closer to ours.
THIS WAS AN EXCERPT!? OMG I'M SO SADDDDDD
I love this entire book already. I don't know why being with them again immediately makes me want to cry. RTC when I have the whole book.
Sequels always worry me, especially if I LOVE the first book (which I do). It’s always such a make or break moment with returning characters. That being said, this excerpt is filled with the same warmth, humor and oddball merriment that made the first book so great. Arthur’s love engulfs the pages while Linus is still so very Linus (in the best, wittiest way possible). I can’t wait to read more to see how the whole fight plot plays out but for now I am thoroughly fulfilled and waiting anxiously for more!
This excerpt did exactly what it was intended to do, It made me absolutely giddy and has me counting down the days until I can return to the world of the House In the Cerulean Sea. The way in which I kept swiping at the screen just hoping, wishing, and begging that I could get a few more pages or maybe magically the rest of the book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for the sneak peak. I am so I am so beyond excited for its sequel
The excerpt only increased my excitement for this book!! The first book was amazing and I have high expectations that this book will live up to the hype. I happy wait to continue reading about Arthur.
This excerpt only reinforced what I already knew this book will be near perfection. Coming back to Marsyas Island is like coming home.
TJ Klune has once again brought our favorite magical kids and their guardians back for another adventure.
Sadly, this excerpt is very short so we only get a brief glimpse into where our favorite magical family is up to and a tiny peek into Arthur’s childhood, including some of the trauma he experienced.
We quickly learn that Arthur and Linus are leaving the island to testify against DICOMY to help ensure the magical children are protected. This excerpt ends just as they begin court proceedings.
Even though it was only the very beginning of the story I’m confident that this book will follow suit by taking us on an emotional roller coaster with plenty of warm hugs!
This excerpt got me SO HYPED for the full book publication later this year. TJ Klune writes these characters so well. They each have their own distinct voices and all the kids are so funny in their own ways. Their eccentricities are not seen as things that need to be fixed, but rather as part of who they are.
I was lucky enough to get the first few chapters and I am beyond eager to finish. Seeing the start and experiencing the tenacity of Arthur is truly inspiring. T.J Klune is a master at their craft and I know that the remaining chapters of this story will be just as perfect as this excerpt.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea (Excerpt) by TJ Klune
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕/5
Have you ever read a book where you wish the pages were endless?
Somewhere Beyond the Sea, a companion book to The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of those books.
Although this was only an excerpt to the novel it is evident that it is written with love and tackles societal injustice and generational trauma in a tender manner.
This is Arthur’s story. Arthur is summoned by the DICOMY (Department in Charge of Magical Youths) to share his personal story in public. Arthur now runs the home / school where he grew up on the island of Marsyas for magically gifted (dangerous) children. He must face the trauma from his childhood to become a voice for all magical beings facing social injustice.
With the support of his partner Linus he will defend and protect his family of magically gifted children whom he wishes to adopt.
The government has alternative motives for the meeting but Arthur and his family have vowed to “keep on throwing stones until someone listens.” Love and courage have a ripple effect in the world! Arthur will be the one who turns ripples into waves of change.
🐦🔥 The comedy in this book is brilliantly written. The children are back and all hell breaks loose, but in the best way! I love these quirky characters. It’s great to see them again.
🐦🔥 I appreciate reading Arthur’s story this time round. He seems to be a complex character that we will learn more about and definitely see him rise in many ways.
🐦🔥 From what I’ve read, this book seems to be highly emotional. It will be heartwarming and heart wrenching at times as the family is sure to go through some trials and tribulations.
🐦🔥I highly recommend reading the first book before this one. The House in the Cerulean Sea is available now and it’s one of my favourites.
Thank you to @netgalley and @torteen for the opportunity to review this excerpt in exchange for an honest review.
The only negative feedback I can offer about this book is that it doesn't come out until September. I am devastated this advanced copy was only the first four chapters, which will make the wait SO MUCH HARDER. Honestly, I wonder if it would have been better to not have this little taste at all. I loved the tiny glimpse into the lives of these characters I love so much and I want to dive into their world and immerse myself.
I suppose a silver lining is that I would have read the entire thing in one sitting and would have shirked on my responsibilities until I was done, so I will need to block out time in September to do just that.
