A short little look into the sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea. I loved returning to this world and the adorable kids - really hoping it continues the cozy atmosphere! Loved that everyone was reintroduced a little bit as a refresher. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!
Absolutely lovely but nowhere near long enough to satisfy me! I’ve missed these characters and I’m so excited to be back with them for a full length story soon. Only four chapters in and it’s clear that Klune has once again created something really special.
A nice little teaser for the book - I'm intrigued by the plot, but I am a bit worried that I won't be engaged by the conflict. What I liked about the first book was the cozy, tucked-away nature of the setting, so it will be interesting to return to the city. I also think it was smart to reintroduce the characters at the beginning because if I told you I remembered each kid, I'd be lying.
Don’t you wish you were here?
Oh this felt like sinking into your coziest blanket and slippers after a long day. I SCREECHED when I found out I was approved for the ARC, and then a different SCREECH when I realized it was just an excerpt. I was hesitant about returning to the house on the cerulean sea, wondering if it would feel the same. Had the characters changed? Had I changed? Obviously yes, but that’s not a bad thing!
The prologue intro into the title had me misty eyed with familiarity. I am very excited to see the journey our characters go on; we have both familiar and unfamiliar settings very early on. One thing is for sure, TJ Klune knows how to write a warm hug in book form. I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of it!
Thanks to Tor and NetGalley for the ARC excerpt of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Returning to Marsas Island and the odd, wonderful children under the care of Arthur Parnassus, this little excerpt was an entire joy. Linus is settling in and feeling like a dad. Arthur and Linus are about to leave the island to speak against the government regulations that "protect" the magical community, that really hurt the magical community. I was late to work to read this as soon as I was approved for this.
I am so eager to read the rest of this book. Five stars is never enough for a TJ Klune book.
Thank you, deeply, to Tor and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC excerpt of this book in exchange for my honest (eager) review.
Hoooo my goodness I screamed upon my approval and then crushed it immediately. Cannot wait to carry on with my journey of this beautiful story
I’m literally frothing at the mouth for the rest of the book!!!!!! Oh my god I need more as soon as possible!!
The Excerpt was fantastic. I need more. I didn't realize I was missing this little family. As soon as I got to chapter one it was like coming Home. The warmth and love was right there waiting. Now I need more.
TJ Klune is a mastermind. Every word he writes is pure magic. He will always be my favorite writer. I desperately wish this was the full thing because I immediately wanted to devour the entire thing.
Going back into this world feels like coming home. TJ’s writing is beautiful, and I was so excited to get an advanced copy of the first few chapters of this book!
I thought TJ did a great job of reintroducing the kids and characters without overdoing it— a perfect little reminder of who (and what) these kiddos are for people like me who read The House on the Cerulean Sea awhile ago.
I’m excited to have this book from Arthur’s POV, and thought the first few chapters did a great job bringing us back into this world while pulling us into this new book. I cannot wait to get to read the rest of this book this fall!! Thank you so much to NetGalley and Tor Books for the ARC excerpt!
Great start to the book! I can’t wait for the full story to be published.
The relationship between the characters is as beautiful as ever.
One note: there was one point where Arthur found his initials that he had carved when he was a child, but my copy read AFB instead of AFP.
Definitely excited to read the rest of this! Going to be a good one. I didn’t think a sequel would be made!
Thank ms to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this excerpt in exchange for an honest review.
Arthur was my favorite character in House In The Cerulean Sea (with, perhaps, the exception of Theodore the Wyvern) so I’m excited to read a book from his perspective. The excerpt is not terribly long, so it’s a bit hard to gauge what the tone of the novel will be. As always, I enjoyed the setting of the house on the island and the interactions between the adults and the magical children. The legal drama aspect could be fun although I worry it might lose some of the whimsy of the previous book, but I suppose I’ll have to wait and see for sure. All in all I’m excited for “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” and look forward to finally getting to read it in full.
SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE SEA by TJ Klune
I cannot express how excited I was when I got the notification from Netgalley that I could read an excerpt from this upcoming release. A sequel to one of my all time favourite books, The House in the Cerulean Sea by one of my all time favourite authors (Green Creek Series, How-To series, Tales from Verania, ETC!!), and I am allowed a sneak peek.
Reading about the Marsyas gang again is like coming home, taking off my bra, slipping in some jimjams and snuggling up with my cat. It's the book version of a warm hug. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say that the gang is in top form, the love is immense, and Chauncey is possibly the greatest being ever in existence.

I loved House in the Cerulean Sea so I absolutely cannot wait for this book! The excerpt only made me more excited to read it.
I just finished The House in the Cerulean Sea a couple weeks ago and I was so excited to get the chance for a sneak peak at this one! I am excited to learn more about Arthur. He was a character I loved from the first book and wished we got more. This little preview gave me so much hope for that! I cannot wait to see this family grow and see what adventures they take together. I am looking forward to the full release of this book so I can finish it!
Going to be honest I did not think this sequel was necessary but my mind might be changed!! I’m enjoying following Arthur as a main character this time around, and it feels just as cozy and a little less treacly which is already an improvement.
Full review to come

I cannot wait for the release of this one, 4 chapters was NOT enough!!
I am already drawn in and now have to wait until September
My goodness how I tore into this book. It took all of two pages to feel deeply submerged into this world again. I didn’t realize just how much I missed these characters. The banter and quips between the children are just as entertaining and charming as ever. TJ Klune’s descriptive writing is of course vivid and magical. I couldn't help but smiling ear to ear as I read. I only had the excerpt, chapters one-four, and I read through it twice, back-to-back. What's a girl gotta do to get the full book?! Those who loved book one and wanted to learn more about Aruthur Parnassus will be thrilled to learn that’s a focus of book two. Additionally, there’s a new character joining the mix, and the much beloved children of the orphanage are now older, some hitting what us humans would refer to as “puberty,” which is a delightful addition of humor. It's safe to say that readers will once again be smitten by these characters, and I highly suspect another best seller! Welcome back to Marsyas Island. We have waited so long to return!
Only getting to read 4 chapters in this excerpt was a TEASE! The House in the Cerulean Sea captured my heart years ago and I've recommended it nonstop since, so returning to those quirky, loveable, witty characters filled me with utter joy. I love seeing their evolutions and cannot wait for the full book to come out! Hurry hurry hurry
Overall: 5 stars (I LOVED it)
I'll tell my students about: LGBTQIA+, supernatural
