From its flashback of an opening to the pre-court cliffhanger ending, this excerpt has me eager for more. Adding in all those domestic moments in between with Arthur, Linus and the children were positively heartwarming.
All of it has me reaching to reread The House in the Cerulean Sea while wishing I already had the rest of this book in hand.
I’m worried for Arthur - and for the children who I’m sure will be even less prepared to listen in to the hearing *now*
(and as a small aside, I also can’t wait to meet David)
I am extremely honored that NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group provided me with an ARC excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I remember when TJ Klune first announced a sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea I went crazy. The first book brought so much joy to my life and I’ve read, and listened to it on audio, more than once. To say that I was excited for a sequel is an understatement, I immediately went and preordered the book so I can have it the day it comes out. The second I started reading this excerpt I felt like I was coming home. I don’t think I realized just how much I missed all of the characters until I started reading this excerpt. Arthur, Linus, Lucy, Chauncey, Phee, Sal, Theodore, Talia, and Zoe….. my heart is yours❤️.
This except left us off on such a cliffhanger! I cannot wait until the entire book is available to read.
TJ Klune, thank you so much for giving us the sequel we all so desperately wanted.
Thank you Tor Publishing and NetGalley for the excerpt for Somewhere Beyond the Sea! My heart is so full being able to be back with these characters, even if it was only in passing (aka four chapters). This one of my most anticipated reads of the year and after reading the first four chapters I have no doubts that it will also be one of my favorite reads of 2024! Thank you so much for allowing me a glimpse into my future favorite read!
If this is an indication of the next book and how good it can be, I’m in! I’m ready to get back with some of my favorite characters and feel that magical, warm hug feeling. Can’t wait for the rest!
Omg! In all my excitement I failed to notice that this was just an excerpt! That being said, if these 4 chapters are an indication of how this book is going to be, then I think we are in for another fantastic book by TJ Klune. Really looking forward to reading the rest of this one!
I did not realize how much I was craving a second book in this series until I read this excerpt. The characters are so full and rich and the new mystery is already there in the first 4 chapters. I love the way the characters communicate and interact with one another. I cannot wait to read more once this comes out.
"A time will come when all of us will have to make a choice between what is right and what is wrong. I worry that time is closer than we think. And I don't know that we're prepared."
It was so wonderful to be briefly back with these characters who I love with my entire heart. Four chapters felt like quite the teaser, so I hope full ARCs are posted at some point. This is gearing up for a tense, emotional rollercoaster as Linus and Arthur work to make magical beings accepted in society. It's amazing how many emotions I felt in 4 chapters. I've already teared up more than once at the absolute sweetness of the birt party and gift
TJ Klune is one of my favorite authors of all time, and his characters have stayed with me long after finishing their story. .
Thank you Tor Publishing and NetGalley for the excerpt for Somewhere Beyond the Sea! My favourite cast of characters is back and as lovable as I remember from House on the Cerulean Sea. It’s time to stand up for children with magical powers, who better than Arthur and Linus. They leave the island after a Birt party for Linus to embark on a journey to the city to advocate for their beliefs and looks like road block are coming and surprising friends to help! CANNOT WAIT FOR ENTIRE BOOK!!!!! thank you again!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Publishing for this excerpt. Even though I was disappointed that I only received the first 4 chapters, this was an excellent read. Still funny and heartwarming. I can't wait to read the rest!
Thank you to Tor for my excerpt!
I had no idea how much i missed these characters until I received this sample. just reading about the kids shenanigans again just made me so happy and you can't just end the sample like that! i need to know what happens next.
If you have a Full Arc, i would do anything for it Tor :(
Thank you NetGalley, Tor Books, and TJ Klune for an early excerpt of this in exchange for an honest review.
This is my most anticipated upcoming book and I am thrilled I was able to read the first 4 chapters. It was just as incredible as I was hoping it would be, it felt like coming home. I cried, laughed, and could not stop grinning within the first 68 pages. It’s just as wholesome as its predecessor, with an overarching feeling of potential doom. You can tell Klune is building on experiences that he may have faced as a queer man, but in a digestible, more heartwarming, way for his readers. I can see this sequel being a little more heavy on the “political” side than the first, but no less wholesome. I cannot wait for the rest of this book to see how everything plays out and am eagerly awaiting the publication date, but also hoping I get approved for the full arc!
Just a note for the publisher and/the author, i’m not sure if it was intentional or not but Lucy’s picture was missing from the photographs scene!
I am very excited for this book and I wish it wasn’t just an excerpt! Can’t wait to fully be immersed in this world again.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic exerpt to read in exchange for an honest review.
Although this is just the first four chapters I can already tell you thus book is going to be my top book of 2024. Our favourite magical children are back (gosh how I've missed Chauncey). And someone new is coming - hello David. I can already tell this will also speak to the current political climate regarding 2SLGBTQI+ policies and peoples. I am eagerly anticipating the full novel.
Wow this was the best excerpt!! It’s like coming home to old friends and places. I was bummed to find out it was just 4 chapters but what a great 4 chapters it was. I hope they will bring out the full ARC and I get approved because I cannot wait till September.
Thank you Netgally, TOR books and TJ Klune for this amazing small part of what’s to come.
I’ll admit I was disappointed when I got the approval email for this and realized it was only an excerpt but it meant I could take a half an hour and read it right away which was good. House In The Cerulean Sea is one of my favourite books so I was so excited to hear there was a sequel coming. Sequels can sometimes feel unnecessary but book one made it clear there was still work to be done when it comes to the rights of magical children. Only a prologue and four chapters long, the excerpt ended on a cliffhanger that will have me counting down the days until the book’s release. Thank you to NetGalley & Tor Publishing Group for the sneak peek!
I'm going to mcfreakin lose it. I was worried that this wouldn't live up to The House in the Cerulean Sea, which is one of my favourite books, and while that remains to be seen, these opening chapters do assuage a lot of that fear. TJ Klune knows what he's doing.
RIP to me for getting too excited to read the word "Excerpt" and thinking we were getting the full galley. I'm not going to make it.
Quick note to the publisher/editor: Lucy's missing from the photographs scene, which seems like it might have been by accident.
This excerpt set up a good tease for the rest of the book. I appreciated that before the first chapter we get a flashback to when Arthur first came back to the island and decided to turn the house that held nightmares for him into the home for magical children it is now.
House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my absolute favorite books (the audio is spectacular I might add) so I am beyond ready to get to read SBTS!
Arthur and Linus are so dang cute and compliment each other so well. All of the children are so unique but I have such a soft spot for Lucy! I loved getting to see a little bit of their quirks and wit in this excerpt. Chauncey has such big dreams and cracks me up. This series would make such a magical movie!
I hope I’m able to eventually be approved for the full book so I can give a full review/rating 💕

Absolutely terrific stuff and has all those signature Klune feels that you want from one of his works. I look forward to reading this work in its entirety!
exciting preview. can't wait to read the whole thing.
actually contemplating a pop culture class around Klune's writing.
I feel a little cheated because I fully thought we were getting the whole book but an excerpt is fine for now I guess lol. This was absolutely delightful! The house in the Cerulean Sea is one of my favorite books of all time, so I was beyond excited to see that this was on NetGalley. I’m more excited than ever for the full book!
