“Hate is loud. We are louder.” … and so we return to Marsyas Island to reunite with Arthur, Linus, and the magical children in their care.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of reading an excerpt of this book and I was gobsmacked. How does one write a sequel to one of the most brilliant books in recent memory? Somehow TJ Klune accomplished the impossible. He wrote a book just as good, if not better than THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA. SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE SEA is the fulfillment of a promise and it is, quite simply, perfect. The world needs more books by TJ Klune. Heck, the world needs more people like TJ Klune.

I won’t spoil this book by summarizing the plot, but I will tell you no one writes the story of found family and the importance of acceptance like TJ Klune. His characters are unforgettable and his messaging timely and important - especially now when hate and the push for conformity are so prevalent.

Whether you are a fan of audiobooks or not, I strongly encourage you to experience this book by listening. Daniel Henning brings these characters to life in a way that adds to the brilliance of the novel. He imbues each character, particularly the magical children, with a uniqueness that enhances the emotional impact of Klune’s words. That being said, I also encourage acquiring a print copy of this book because it is truly a treasure you’ll want to revisit often.

Put down whatever else you’re reading and treat yourself to this phenomenal story.

Thank you to NetGalley, TJ Klune, and Tor Publishing Group for the honor of reading this excerpt in return for my unbiased review.

This book was even better than The House in the Cerulean Sea. If you were apprehensive about this title, I am telling you now that this book brings further community and acceptance. TJ Klune's acknowledgments is the ultimate mic drop!

I enjoyed the follow-up to this series! The first book was so good and I gave it 5 stars and I was excited to read the second. The second did not let down!

when a new magical child hopes to join them on their island home—one who finds power in calling himself monster, a name that Arthur worked so hard to protect his children from—Arthur knows they’re at a breaking point: their family will either grow stronger than ever or fall apart.

Welcome back to Marsyas Island. This is Arthur’s story.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a story of resistance, lovingly told, about the daunting experience of fighting for the life you want to live and doing the work to keep it. And to me anything TJ Klune writes I love
Thank you netgalley

Being able to revisit old friends in the form of the characters from The House in the Cerulean Sea is a year, especially when the characters and their stories are so charming. Because I was only able to read the sample, I can only report on how welcome it is to follow up on Arthur, Linus, and the rest of the cast from the original book. It's one of my favorite books and I look forward to immersing myself in the updates on the children, and their beloved caregivers. The sample was very promising.

This excerpt made me so excited to read this book and be back in this world! Fall is the perfect time to snuggle up with this cozy fantasy. Thanks for the opportunity to read the excerpt!! I definitely anticipate this being a five star read for me.

Just reviewing the excerpt that I was provided!

I love being back with all of our magical kiddos! Love seeing all of their personalities again, they are the reason I loved the first book so much.

One thing I’m worried I won’t like in this book is bringing in “real world issues” like policies and politics. I know some people feel like it shines a light on current events but to me it feels too much like it’s just the author’s agenda. Will have to see how the rest of the story unfolds.

From just the excerpt I’ll give it 3 stars. This could very well change once I read the whole book.

What a tease! I absolutely love this story and these characters!!

From the excerpt the story starts out with Arthur Parnassus in the past, first coming to the island. Flash forward to present day where Arthur and Linus are off to tell Arthur's story. All the love ape characters have returned and the magic starts right where it left off.

I adore TJ Klune and the worlds he presents in his literature. A heartwarming story that is inclusive without being cliche. A low key love story with tropes that involve much larger social issues. TJ Kline seems to blend these in to the are worn out making it feel intrusive or political. Just a story about love and acceptance weaved in to a magical story.

I cannot wait to read/listen to the rest of this story. I'm sure it will as magical as this expert promises.!

Only a few chapters in, and I’ve already laughed, cried, and laughed so hard I’ve cried. I love this weird, beautiful family, and it’s so so good to be back.

These books are the best. The magic, the unique characters, the messages about found family and being an individual! Ugh, I love it all. I highly recommend both of the books in this duo as they’re so lovable and huggable. They just make you feel so warm and fuzzy inside.

I honestly haven't read the synopsis for this, but knew I was going to read it no matter what because I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea.
I had no idea what direction this book was going to take and honestly, it's gone in a direction I wasn't expecting.
We start with a prologue of when Arthur was younger and first went back to the island to create what the orphanage is now. We then jump to after the first book ends. This book is told in the POV of Arthur rather than Linus like the first one. Arthur has been called to the city to give a testimony of how he was treated as a child and how he runs the orphanage while the government decides how to proceed with the department for magical youth.
The children are still as hilarious and chaotic as ever, my favorite part so far being when Chauncey ate a pinecone and got upset because he was told it was a "female" pinecone (it had seeds) and thought he had eaten a person.
We only get a few chapters in with this sneak peek, but I am extremely interested in where this book will lead.

*Somewhere Beyond the Sea* is a heartwarming and emotionally charged sequel to TJ Klune’s *The House in the Cerulean Sea*. In this new installment, Arthur Parnassus must confront his dark past to protect the magical children he loves as his own, all while navigating the challenges of family, love, and belonging. Klune’s storytelling is as tender and compassionate as ever, effortlessly blending themes of found family, acceptance, and resistance against injustice. The dynamic between Arthur, Linus, and the rest of the Marsyas Island family continues to be a highlight, with their unwavering dedication to one another shining through. This sequel is a thoughtful exploration of identity and the strength it takes to live authentically, making it a must-read for fans of the first novel.

A wonderful continuation of the Cerulean Sea story, this time focusing more on Arthur and adding more to the family he and Linus have built. It speaks to the importance of love and found family and what things are important to fight for.

A brilliant follow-up in the Cerulean Chronicles. The first book felt like a complete story, so I was surprised to learn of a sequel. But now that I’ve read part of it, I’m so happy we got more of the story for Arthur and the family. It’s darker than the first and just as wholesome.

Looking for a cozy read?

Looking for something that will bring happy tears to your eyes?

Looking for a hug?

You've found it with Somewhere Beyond the Sea, a follow-up novel to the incredible, The House in the Cerulean Sea. And it feels like being home again.

This cast of characters ranks up high with the best of them. The entire book feels whimsical and real all at the same time. Klune has a way with weaving words into a masterpiece of a world that you can sink into and not come up from until the last page.

You won't want to miss this book!

Thank you to the publisher for my gifted copy.

Excited about Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a huge understatement. I squealed when I was given access to an early excerpt from NetGalley and TorBooks. Then I waited until end of August to read it because I knew I would want to read the rest as soon as possible and I was not wrong! I started the excerpt and lost count of how many times I got teary eyed in just a few short chapters.

The House in the Cerulean Sea stole my heart and getting a second story with these incredible characters makes me so happy! I have three current reads but I think I have to abandon everything to finish this 😬
